I got home disappointedly as I didn’t see him or where his car went. As usual my roommates were having another fight.

“Don’t they get tired?” I asked myself

I walked into the room and they all stared at me.

“Look guys, another rejection” Andrea said laughing and the others joined her.

“You know, rather than making fun of me, try getting a job and stop being Jane’s puppet” I said to her and she stood up angrily

“What did you just say?” She asked raising her hands to give me a slap

“Why can’t you guys let her be?” Lucy asked coming out of the bathroom.

“Of course her Saviour is here” Jane said with an eye roll

“You had better watch your back” Andrea said pointing at me

“Whatever” I said sitting on my bed. I was scared of them but they were really getting on my nerves.

“So how did it…” Lucy tried saying as she stared at me

“Wait… what happened to my dress!?” She yelled

I totally forgot I had ruin her dress.

“Sorry, I got into an accident” I said to her

“An accident? What happened?” She asked as she sat down beside me

“Apparently, I was hit by a guy named Damien West” I said nonchalantly

“Wait… what! Did you just say Damien West?” She asked with her eyes wide open as others gasped

“Yes, do you know him?” I asked

“Who doesn’t? He’s the son of Mr West” she said

“Mr West?”

“Of the West Library” she said waving her hands in the air

West Library? No wonder his name sounded so familiar…

“So tell me more, what happened?”

Well, I… wait I thought you were attending a party?” I asked

“Well, I was, but Damien West is more important. So c’mon tell me what happened” she squeaked

“Well, I met him and..”

“Did you just say you met Damien West?” Jane asked

“It’s none of your business!” I yelled

“Was he handsome?” She asked

“I’m not supposed to say…but… handsome will be an understatement” I said jamming my hands together

“He was breathtaking, he was.. gosh, I don’t even know the word to use”

“Lucky you” Lucy said as she hugged me tightly

“He even gave me this” I said showing her the cheque

“Didn’t want to accept it but he didn’t give me a choice”

“What do you mean by you didn’t want to accept. Girl, you need that money”

“I guess so. I didn’t even get the chance to say thank you to him”

“Why?”

“He left” I said sadly

“Who wouldn’t leave, you look like a pig!” Andrea yelled laughing

“Girl! Mind your business” Lucy yelled

“Although he forgot this” I said bringing out the flier from my purse

“This is a job offer from West Library” she said

“I know”

“Won’t you apply?” She asked

“At West Library? Of course not”

“And why’s that?”

“Have you met me?” I asked

“Girl, you should. You’re good at this stuff. And you have $200 thousand, you can use it to make yourself pretty. You need that job”

“Well…I do need a job, and being a librarian or a reader doesn’t seem difficult” I said

“Plus, you’d be working in the biggest library here” Lucy added

“You really think I should go for it?” I asked

“ I don’t think, I know you’ll be good at it” she said

“ Thanks Lucy” I said and hugged her

“ Get ready for another disappointment” Jane and Andrea echoed

“ Don’t mind them, I’ll take you for shopping and dress you in a way they wouldn’t want to reject you” Lucy said

“Thank you. What will I have done without you” I said and hugged her again

“ You’re welcome”

I had previously asked one of the workers here in West Library to put up the fliers around town. And as expected, people were trooping in and out of West Library to get picked.

Well, I know dad will pick a lady. He feels that they bring more income to the Library than males. Ladies dressed seductively so as to get the job. I wasn’t really interested in this but I had to partake.

“Damien” Dad called out

“See… it wasn’t that hard, was it?” He asked

“Don’t get too comfortable dad, it’s a one time thing” I said to him and he smiled

“Well, there’s always a first time for everything. How did you get so much people to partake in the interview in just a day?” He asked

“I’m Damien West dad” I said and walked away

Well, I had set up a catch. The lady who gets the job will have a dinner date with me. Well, it’s not like they knew who I was, so I could just send my driver to act as Damien.

I walked into West Library and I must admit it was really worth the hype. The library was really huge and one could actually get lost in here. I saw many disappointed faces. I guess they were already rejected. Lucy had actually dressed me up in a beautiful way and I looked totally different. I was asked to write my name in a book as we’d be called one after the other.

“Are all these people really here for the job?” I thought to myself.

“Mia Shane, you’re next” a lady said behind the closed door. I breathed in before stepping into the hall. I saw different faces staring at me.

There he was… Damien. He was sitting close to two other guys. They looked like him but Damien was more handsome. He wasn’t focused on what was happening. His focus was on his phone.

“Any time now” a man said. From his looks I could tell that he was Mr West. He was dressed in a royal blue suit and he sat close to a beautiful woman. I walked to the stage and faced them. I got a close look at the woman. Indeed she was pretty.

She defines wealth. Her complexion had an impeccable, ocherous hue. She had an Eden green eyes which were a-sparkle with the “Joie de vivre”. Her Venus-red fingernails ran through her nougat-brown hair. The hair rested on her photogenic face and she had a smile that could lit up the entire room. She held her glass of wine with her left hands and lifted it up with class. She was indeed pretty.

“Pick up the book at the table, you’ll be reading. We already have a librarian” the man said again.

“Good day everyone. I’m Mia Shane” I said and Damien looked up. His blue eyes were gazed at me and I felt nervous. He raised his eyebrows, which clearly states;

“What are you doing here?”

I ignored his looks and picked up the book I was asked to read.

“Remember, you only have one chance. Use it wisely” the lady said with a smile

“Daddy’s little monster….” I read aloud

“Well let’s vote” the lady standing at the door said

“Mr West?”

“It’s a yes for me. She did well”

“Mrs West?” She called out and the pretty lady smiled

“Your reading was superb, it’s a yes”

“Zander? Javier?” She called out

And the two guys who looked like Damien stared at me. I couldn’t get a proper look at their face, but I was terrified. What if they say no? What if they don’t like me”

“Well, she’s pretty” one of the guys said

“That’s not the point here Javier. Do you like the way she reads?” Mrs West asked and everyone in the room laughed. Well, except from Damien who was still focused on his phone.

“Well, yes. She reads fine. It’s also a yes from me” The guy named Javier said

“Zander?”

“Well, she could have done better…” he paused and my heart skipped a bit

“But… she’s better than the others who were here, so yea, it’s a yes from me too” he said

“Thank you” I said with the mic and they all laughed

“What’s funny?” Damien asked staring at them.

So now he can speak?

“Well Damien your vote? The lady said

“It’s sir Damien to you. You work under me lady” he said to the lady standing at the entrance

“I’m sorry sir Damien” she said, her face down in shame

“Good.”

“And as for the vote…” he paused and stared at me.

“Even if I said yes or no, it wouldn’t matter much, so there’s no point. But… left to me, I don’t think she’s good enough” he said staring at me, I became scared instantly. He stood up and left the hall.

What is wrong with him? Why is he like this?

“Well, congratulations Mia Shane. You’re the new reader of West Library” Mr West said as the others stood up and left.

“Claire, tell the others to leave. We already have our reader” he said but this time, to the lady at the entrance. So her name is Claire.

“You all can leave” she said with the mic and the others murmured, they were obviously disappointed.

“Meet the lady in the library, she’ll hand over the papers to you, sign them and you’ll fully become the reader of West Library” Mr West said

“Thank you sir” I said to him happily

“Do remember, once you sign that contract, there is no backing out and whatever happens here at West Library stays at West Library” he said smiling with his brown teeth.

“Of course Mr West” I said

“Good girl” he said as he patted my head and walked towards the entrance, then turned back and said;

“Remember to also collect a cheque from here when signing the contract” he said and left

“Ahh!” I let out a loud scream. I’m finally employed and at the biggest library here. Gosh! I can’t wait to tell Lucy the great news.

“I’ll be right back with the papers” the lady at the library said to me. I heard it wasn’t the main library but the one commoners can use.

As she left the library, I touched the books on the shelf and admired everything in the library.

All the books were arranged in alphabetical order and everything in the library were neatly kept.

I held a book in my hand, glancing through it, when someone pinned my body to the shelf.

Oh my goodness!

“Damien?” I called out

“What the hell do you think you’re doing here?” He asked

“Obviously here for the job” I said and he scoffed. I could feel his breathe on my face and I closed my eyes and enjoyed the feeling of his hands on my body.

“What the hell? You have to quit before signing that contract” he said

“And why’s that?” I asked with an eye roll

“Cause I know why you’re here” he said

“Wait… do you really think I’m here for you?” I asked and removed his hands from my body

“You wished” I said again and tried walking away. He pulled me back and stared into my eyes and said;

“You don’t know what you’re getting into. Don’t sign those papers” he said

“Let her go Damien” someone said
