Chapter Six

1206 Words
Arielle’s POV I went in and out of consciousness after I blacked out. In a truck, a man’s voice begging me to stay alive, being carried into a brightly lit room, a man and woman examining me, then, my world went black. I don’t know how long I was out, but when I woke up, I was not alone in the room. Two women were in there with me, one with fire red hair tidying the room, and the other woman with black hair cleaning me up. “Where am I?” I hoarsely whispered, trying to sit up. The woman cleaning me up gently pushed me back into the bed, not allowing me to sit up. “Whoa, girl, take it easy,” she ordered me. “Your body took one hell of a beating.” “Water, please,” I whispered. She nodded, reaching over for a pitcher and a glass, pouring some water for me. She helped bring my head to the glass, and I took a couple of sips. Once my throat was wet and didn’t feel like sandpaper, I asked again. “Where am I?” The black-haired woman smiled at me. “You are at Los Jinetes del Diablos clubhouse,” she responds. “Clubhouse?” I whispered. “A motorcycle club,” she tells me. “You are safe here. I am Raven and that is Firecracker over there.” Firecracker stopped cleaning, smiled, and waved at me. “A motorcycle club? Hawk?” I asked, confused about what was going on. Raven pointed to a door on my left. “He hasn’t left your side since he brought you here,” she told me. “He didn’t want you to be alone.” I tried to sit up, but pain shot through my side, reminding me of what had happened. I looked down, and I was naked, other than a bandage wrapped around my torso. A brace was on my right hand, and I didn’t know what my face looked like. “I will get you a T-shirt,” she tells me, walking over to a dresser. “This is Doc and my room, and I don’t think he would mind if you borrowed one of his shirts.” She giggled and pulled out a white T-shirt and brought it over. She unhooked the IV long enough to help me get a shirt on and hooked it back up. “The IV is to make sure you stay hydrated,” she told me. “We have also been giving you some painkillers to keep you comfortable while we had you sedated.” “Why did you have me sedated?” I asked her. “Also, are you a doctor?” “Both Doc and I are doctors,” she tells me. “I still practice, but Doc is on the club’s payroll.” She pulled the pillows up behind me and helped me sit up. “We keep you sedated for a few days to let your body heal. You got one hell of a beating. Broken ribs, broken nose, fractured orbital bones around your right eye, bruised kidney, and lacerated liver, along with severe bruising on your abdomen, and your face looks like you survived twelve rounds in a boxing fight. Doc had to re-break your nose and reset it. It was pretty crooked when you got here, but now it is straight as a board.” My hand went up to my nose, gently touching it. The door opened, and I saw a god-like man standing in the doorway. Tall, muscular arms covered in tattoos, large muscular pecs, a six-pack, a deep V digging into his jeans, black hair pulled back, and shirtless. A long, thin scar ran across his chest, ruining the tribal tattoo he had on his chest. He walked into the room, and I instantly recognized him. He was the man who was sitting at the end of the bar and saved me from the asshole who was sexually assaulting me. “I remember you,” I breathed. “You are the one who saved me from those assholes.” “And I also saved your life,” his deep voice replied. “You were injured, and I trusted Doc and Raven here to save you.” “Hawk, now that she is awake and fine, go get some rest,” Raven says to him. “You barely slept.” “I’m not leaving her side until I kill the asshole who did this to her,” he growled at Raven, walked across the room. “He’s a couple of thousand miles away,” I told him. “He will not be looking for me.” “He will once he sees that you have that ledger,” he says to me. My eyes popped wide open, couldn’t believe he went through my things. “Titan, the club president, went through your backpack to find some identification on you. We didn’t know your name when you arrived. He found your wallet and the ledger. I am sorry he did that, but he had to.” My head hung, understanding why they went through my backpack. I walked into a bar as a complete stranger, passed out from my injuries, and he brought me here for medical treatment. “What we don’t understand is why you took it?” he asked me. “Hawk, let the girl rest,” Raven scolded him. I placed my good hand on her arm. “It’s okay, Raven,” I told her. Then I slowly turned my head toward Hawk. My neck was killing me from Rodney choking me. “I took it because if he and his bosses try to look for me, I will turn it over to the FBI. He knows that. Especially when he almost killed me.” “How long ago did he beat you?” Firecracker asked me. “What is today’s date?” I asked. “The twentieth,” Raven answered. It has been ten days since the beating, and probably a week since I was here. “Ten days ago,” I told them. “I caught him cheating on me with my best friend. Of all people, MY BEST FRIEND SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL!” Raven and Firecracker hung their heads, and I could see Hawk tremble in anger. I could tell he wanted to go to New York, find Rodney, and kill him for what he did to me. “He beat you for getting caught,” he seethed, his fists clenching. I tried to curl up in a ball, ready to protect myself if he decides to take his anger out on me. He saw my reaction, unclenched his hands, and took a deep breath. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” he breathed. “He beat me because I wanted to leave him right then and there,” I told him. “He reminded me that I couldn’t leave because I knew too much and was nothing without him.” “Arielle, you are something without him,” Hawk tells me. “You are someone with purpose. You just must find that purpose.”
