Mr. Morgan Wilson
"How is your heartbeat now, sir?" Ashley asked some minutes after Morgan Wilson's private jet took off.
"The doctor recently told me it is stable." He blinked, avoiding eye contact with her. “Please come over here and sit." He gestured at the seat next to his.
Ashley obeyed immediately. “Sir,”
Morgan hesitated briefly before speaking, "Ashley, I know everything is happening so fast and you may be wondering why I chose you to work for me and to be my personal assistant which is a very sensitive position at this time.”
Ashley glanced around, uneasy. "Sir, I can't see anyone traveling with you.” She tried to change the topic since she felt uncomfortable at his seriousness. “Why am I the only one today?" she asked, her brows curved up.
"Please listen, Ashley, time is against me,” he said again, “Tell me, have I been good to you?"
Ashley swallowed hard, unsure of where the conversation was heading. "It's been only three days working for you, Sir, but I must say, yes, you have."
"Good." He nodded and flipped the pages of a document on his lap, then leaned forward and placed it on the table in-between them. “Ashley, I want you to be good to me as well.”
Her brows creased slightly in confusion. "What is this?" She asked the minute she glanced through the same document.
"This document states that you have the legal rights to all that belongs to me including the rights to choose whoever succeeds me,” he said.
Her eyes shot up, but he continued. “I have three sons and none of which I deem fit to carry on after I am gone. I want you to act in my stead until you find out which one of my sons is capable of handling my wealth and apportioning my fortune in a way that brings equity." He uttered hastily.
He waggled his eyebrows at her. “Please sign here and make it quick before I change my mind."
Ashley's eyes dilated and her jaw dropped while listening to him, she processed his words and swallowed hard.
"But sir, you barely know me. I-I can't…" Ashley stuttered.
"Yes you can.” He interrupted her. “I read your file and I employed you. I wish I have all the time in the world to know you better. You don't think a man of my age knows best when he chooses to trust you? I have no one else to trust but you."
"But sir, you speak so well of your closest friend, Alonso." She said, recalling the man Morgan had introduced her to on the day she was employed.
"Yes I trust him but not with delicate matters as this one.” He let out a sharp sigh. “You should be happy about this but you're not."
"I am scared.” She answered honestly. “I have not been able to handle so much in my life, and I don't want to fail you." Ashley's voice slightly whimpered.
"That's the more reason why you are the best choice." He said placing his hand on his chest again and his face squeezed.
"Sir, are you alright? Should I call someone?" She panicked, but he immediately stopped her.
“No, that won't be necessary. Just sign already." This time his tone was no longer gentle but rough.
Ashley picked up the pen and signed without thinking further. It was written all over her face that she was not comfortable with it. She was only driven by compassion and fear that something bad might happen to him simply because she was proving difficult to get the document signed.
"Thank you, Ashley.” He took the document. “You can sit down over there now.” He gestured at the chair at the far end. “Let me worry about our wedding plans."
"What!” Her eyes widened in shock. “What wedding, sir?" Her eyes flashed.
"It is stated in the document that you have also accepted to be my wife.” He said simply. “You don't have to worry too much. It is a contract that will be terminated once you have picked a successor for me."
"Sir!” she shrilled.
He saw the fear in her eyes and exhaled sharply. "Ashley, you are young and I am not intending to destroy your life. I won't touch you if that's what you are thinking.” He assured her, but none of his words relieved her, her heart raced in her chest as fear gripped her.
“Please I need my privacy now. With time you'll get to understand you made the right choice." He finished and narrowed his eyes on his phone screen.
Ashley slowly stood up and left with clenched jaw, concealing the anger within her because she respected her job.
"Ashley, let's go." Morgan snapped her out of her thoughts on his way out, she blinked. Realizing the had just landed, she stood up and followed him out.
Alonso stood there with a hands crossed in front of him, watching Morgan walk down the stairs of his private jet.
When Morgan reached toward him, he said, "Long trip, huh?"
"No, it was a short one to me.” Morgan glanced at Ashley who stood beside him. “I proposed to Ashley and she said, yes.” Alonso’s eyes dilated, “There was no time to even express my emotions hugging her before landing." Morgan replied in a way that cracked up his bodyguards.
Alonso forced a smile and kept talking immediately they entered one of the cars "You proposed and you never told me about it?" he fastened his seatbelt while listening to Morgan.
"It happened fast my friend. I fell in love with her and she reciprocated. By the way our wedding is taking place next tomorrow. You can assist me with the preparations, right?"
Alonso was at the loss for word, he had a lot of questions, but he nodded. "Right." he threw his wince transformed face out the window.
At 9:15 a.m. on the day of their wedding, Morgan’s chest ached as he gripped the chair in the dressing room, trying to get a hold of himself. It was time to go to the altar, but his head felt light.
“All of you, please leave us.” Alonso ordered Morgan’s groomsmen out sensing Morgan’s distress.
He waited for them to leave before shutting the door and facing Morgan. “The crowd is waiting, Morgan."
"I can't face them yet." Morgan uttered sounding troubled.
Alonso gasped and looked him in the eye, “Have you taken your medication this morning?"
"I just did.” Morgan’s eyes darted to his hand. “It's not about my heart now, but my hands are trembling."
"You’re nervous isn't it?" Alonso asked and walked away to get wine, expecting Morgan to say a word which he didn't.
“Your sons, Kyle and Jamal are here.” He grabbed two glasses. “And oh, I forgot, including the illegitimate one, Jake." Alonso turned a little bit and peeked to see if Morgan was watching. Then he poured in a white substance to poison Morgan's wine before stirring it.
"I invited them all personally.” Morgan dragged his breath. “And please you don't have to remind me Jake is illegitimate. I have accepted him as my son, he is part of the Wilson family now and should be address as such."
"Hmmm, is that so?" Alonso said, and handed over the poisoned drink to Morgan, "to friendship and a happy married life." He made a toast and started drinking to make Morgan drink.
When he noticed Morgan wasn't drinking, he added, "Drink up, Morgan. It will help ease your tension. Wine is a good remedy."
