Chapter One

Beth

Walking into the dinner hall, scanning the tables in search of my brother, third row in, he sits with his two friends, Chase and Axel. They have been friends since before I was born! They are all very protective, not that they have to worry about me. I do not have friends or bullies. I am left to myself just how I like it. Ricky notices me standing in the lunch line. His smile is the same as our dads. Chase whips his head round and shines his annoying smile as well. When will that boy get the message? Chase does not hide the fact that he likes me, and he never has. He is one year older than me, and because both our older brothers are best friends, I see him a lot! He knows when I have had enough of him flirting, but sometimes his kindness really does annoy me! He over steps or does stupid things in the hopes it will make me happy. I am not a people person at all! I am a wallflower. I do not really connect well with anyone. My brother is my favourite person, and when he is around, i shine apparently, whereas when he is not, I am awkward according to my mum. I just agree with her, to be honest. Picking up my tray with my dinner now, sitting on top, jacket potato with a pot of tuna, and a couple of sachets of salad cream. This is my go-to dinner!

Chase is already readying himself to stand up. He is polite and pulls out my chair at every given chance! I am so glad we have an age gap. He is in year Nine, and I am in year eight. It gives me the breathing space I can get from them all! Chase stands as I inch closer. He pulls the chair out for me and smiles, Ricky and Axel laugh as they normally do.

“Thank you, Chase.”

“Man you can not give her a second, can you, Beth? How many times have I told you just clip him around the head.” Axel laughs as he speaks. I look at him through my eyebrows before taking the tuna pot in my hand.

“Dam, she gave you the look, Axel!” Ricky speaks also laughing as he does. They find everything funny. I, on the other hand, do not. “How was your morning, Beth, we could not find you at break?”

“That is because I was in the one room you never go in, the libary.”

“I told you!” Chase does not look very happy, and I am not sure how to feel about him knowing me so well! Maybe that is the problem? I could love this annoying boy if we were not so close, he knows every detail of my life, everything I do, everywhere I go, we are almost like brother and sister.

“Alright sorry for not listening.” Axel has his smirk in place, which for some reason drives Chase mad. He gets really pissed off when our brothers wind him up. This is what I am talking about. We spend too much time together to date, and it would be awkward with Ricky and Axel as well. It really is not worth the hassle!

“What are your guys' plans after school?” Hopefully, they are going out tonight so I can finally get some peace. They have not been out in a while. They spend most nights at my house. Ricky and Axel like their video games!

“Film night at ours, you in?” Ricky speaks, and I groan to myself.

“Bored of your new game already?” Axel asks Ricky, Chase watches as he takes a bite of his cheeseburger.

“No, mum and dad are working late tonight, so I thought we could get a pizza, some treats, and watch a film together.”

“I'm in, but you have to let me pick the pizza.” I say I just hope they all agree

“Fine, boys, you ok with that?”

“Of course.”

“If it means we do not have to watch a teen romance again, then yes!” I can not help laughing at Axel's comment, thankful I do not have food in my mouth. They would not let me pick the pizza last time, and I did not like their weird donna meat topped pizza! So I made them watch three teen romance films before they finally left.

“You should have let me pick the pizza then.”

“I have learnt my lesson!”

“I can see.”

“Horror film it is!” Dam, you Axel! He knows I hate horror films!

“You are an ass Axel!”

“I know.” This causes us all to laugh, I finish up my dinner, and we head out of the dinner hall and outside to do nothing. All we do is walk around until the bell goes off. There is not much to do. Most of the time, we end up people watching and laughing at some of the things these kids do. We have some weirdos in this school. For example, there is this one boy in my year, unfortunately, who shows off the fact he can kick himself in the head. Yes, he will stand in the middle of the class or play ground and kick himself in the fourhead.

“Beth, he is doing it again.” I was not paying attention to anything the guys have said or done for about 2 two minutes, I look over to where Ricky is facing and see Paul, kicking himself in the head. Perfect timing!

“I do not understand that boy.”

“I don't think he understands himself, to be honest.”

“He is crazy!” Axel has no filter, which is not always a good thing! He is always getting himself into trouble for no reason. When all he has to do is close his mouth. Chase is very different. He likes to keep his opinions to himself, and he always seems very calm even when he would not expect him to be. You do not want to get on the wrong side of Chase because once that line has been reached, he switches! I have only ever seen Chase switch once, and he looked possessed! The bell goes off, and we all start to walk towards the doors that lead towards my tutor.

“Guys you do not have to walk me to my form everyday you know that, right?”

“Ricky, have you explained the rules?”

“I have.”

“For god's sake, shut up! I do not need you guys to look after me, I am not a baby.”

“You're our baby Beth.”

“This baby is about to punch you in the throat, Axel.” My comment makes Chase laugh. He has such a sweet laugh, dam it!

“Listen to her, I did not believe her until I was choking on air.” Ricly states in a serious tone. We all walk down the school hallway laughing, this is us, we are never without each other, we are never alone, and I can not imagine my life without any of them in it.
