"f**k, Sophie. Do I have to grovel and beg to make you understand that I want you back?"

"Do you hear how contradictory you sound, Dominic?" I croaked.

"You want the same mate you rejected, while you already have a Luna."

His expression crumbled.

"I moved on, just like you did. What I want you to do is sit with that thought till it sinks in."

........

Seven years ago, Dominic rejected Sophie and chose the daughter of an Alpha from another Pack as his mate.

Unbeknownst to Dominic, their secret relationship had left Sophie pregnant.

For seven years, Sophie built a life of her own, and raised Ethan alone.

Then Richard Steele dies.

And Sophie is forced to return to the Steele Pack with a son Dominic never knew existed.

Seeing Sophie is enough to awaken something Dominic thought he'd buried deep down, but discovering that the little boy beside her was his own son changes everything.

Now, Dominic wants Sophie back.

Only Sophie isn't the frightened Omega he rejected seven years ago.

And Dominic isn't a free man.

He already has a Luna.

Rachel.

She's the daughter of an allied Alpha, and ending their relationship could threaten the alliance between both Packs.

But Dominic soon discovers that getting Sophie back may be the least of his problems.

A witch had a terrifying vision after an encounter with Ethan, one that revealed he possessed a power that could one day make him the Alpha of Alphas.

Powerful forces are after the boy.

Unaware that her son has become a target, Sophie is confused as to why Dominic is suddenly determined to protect the family he once abandoned.

But will Dominic be able to convince Sophie to let him back into her life while protecting them from unforseen dangers?

The Letter
"Just leave, Sophie. I need some space." "Dom—" "Christ, Sophie! What part of 'I need some space' don't you understand?" I shifted back instinctively. "Look, I just need to think clearly, okay?" "Think about what, Dominic?" I whispered. "We're mates. You should have told them that." "You're my stepsister, Sophie—" "We're not blood related, are we?" "It's not just that, Soph." "Then what is it?" "You're an Omega." Silence. "Is that what this is all about? My status?" I whispered. "We need the deal, Sophie. We need the alliance, I have a duty to hold this pack together. What this pack needs after the death of their former Luna is a stronger one, and Rachel fits—" "No, Dominic. Please don't do this to me," I begged, my eyes glassy. "I'm sorry, Sophie. I have to," he said, brushing past me as he headed back into the hall. "Dominic!" He didn't respond. Instead, he hastened his steps. "Dominic please..." I hurried after him, just as he stepped into the hall— I grabbed his wrist. "Dominic!" He ripped his hand from mine. "Don't you get it, Sophie?" The music stopped. The quiet chatters ceased. I suddenly became aware of all the eyes on us. "Is everything alright?" Rachel asked, coming to a stop beside Dominic. "Dominic, please, can we take this somewhere private? Let's talk—" "There's nothing to talk about, Sophie," Dominic said. "We can't be together, we're not compatible for each other." "But we're mates," I croaked, as silent tears rolled down my face. Rachel gasped dramatically. Low murmurs filled the hall immediately. Dominic's cold expression faltered, giving way to sadness. "We are... until we're not." "What?" I echoed, staring at him with disbelief as the meaning behind his words came crashing down on me. I shook my head, trying to reach for him, but he stepped back, his gaze hardening. "Dominic please... don't do this to me, I beg of you," I pleaded, going on my knees. "I can be the best Luna for you, I don't care about the rigorous training you'll put me through... I don't care what I have to do, I will do it, just..." My eyes squeezed shut as a painful sob cracked past my lips. "Don't reject me please... don't reject this bond." "You can't make a Luna out of an Omega, Sophie," Rachel said, moving closer. "That's life. Deal with it." Silence. God knows I couldn't give a f**k what anyone thought of me, so long as Dominic felt differently— "She's right." My eyes snapped open, fixing on Dominic's hard ones. "You just don't fit, even if you manage to become the perfect Luna, your genetics won't change. An Omega can't bear strong pups." "Dominic please..." He straightened, staring at me with a dead expression. "I, Dominic Steele, heir to the Steele Pack..." Was this really happening? "...hereby rejects Sophie Vale as my mate and chooses Rachel of the Moon Crescent Pack as my mate." A scream tore past my lips. It was almost like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. The pain was unimaginable, like nothing I'd ever felt before. Then— “Mum?” a familiar voice called, tapping me softly. My eyes flew open, locking onto soft grey eyes as I sat up. “Baby… are you alright?” I asked, my tone laced with concern. "I'm hungry, mummy.” Fuck. I shoot him a bright smile. “Mummy will be with you shortly, okay?" He nodded, then I began tidying up the studio. The week had been exhausting enough to explain the nap. My mind drifted to him. I shook my head to dispel the image. “Look mummy,” Ethan called. I turned to find him holding up a magazine, happily pointing at a familiar face. Dominic. “His eyes are just like mine.” I took the magazine from him. “Who is he, mummy?” He asked, bouncing on his feet. “Is he some celebri…” he paused, struggling to finish the sentence. “Celebrity?" He nodded. “Yes." “He's…” I drawled, chest tightening as I stared at the picture. “Someone mummy used to know.” “A friend?” “Yes, an old friend.” “Where is he now?” He asked, puzzled. I chuckled, pinching his cheeks. “That is something you don't need to worry about.” I replied, dumping the magazine in the trash. His face fell a bit, then brightened as soon as my fingers wrapped around his. “Come on,” I said, tugging him forward. “Didn't you say you were hungry.” He nodded enthusiastically, already racing ahead of me toward the kitchen. Before I knew it, the rest of the evening had blurred by the way it usually did—with dinner, dishes, and a hundred tasks piled onto an already exhausted day—until finally... I was alone, heading for my room when the doorbell stopped me in my tracks. I frowned, turning towards the door instead. The ring came again. “Coming,” I shouted, increasing my pace. I opened the door and frowned at the man standing outside. “A letter for Miss Sophie Hart,” he said. At 9pm? Is it me, or did mail men suddenly become more diligent these days? “That's me,” I replied, taking it from him. He nodded, then walked off. I closed my door, turning the envelope over, surprised to actually see my name written boldly on it, with a familiar law firm logo. I hurried to the living room, already opening the envelope before taking my seat. No. Tears blurred my vision. I would have thought it to be some sick joke but it wasn't… the letter was from a lawyer representing the Steele family and— My stepfather, Richard, was dead. He had passed away from an illness no one had told me about, and his funeral would be in three days time… And somehow— I was expected to be there. My chest tightened as grief washed over me. Growing up in a home where no one cared about me, Richard was the closest thing I ever had to a father. Shit. To think I'd left everything behind… only to be dragged back. Back to the Steele Pack. A place I hadn't set foot in for seven years. I swallowed hard, squeezing the paper. And Dominic— I hadn't seen him in seven years—not since the night everything fell apart. Not since I ran away without looking back. Was I ready to see him again? I headed straight to Ethan's room, pushing the door open carefully so I wouldn't wake him. My obedient boy. A sad smile tugged at my lips as I stared at his small body curled into the sheets… breathing softly and steadily. “What am I supposed to do?” I whispered. What would he see when he looked at Ethan? Seven years of building a life far away from the pain… from him. Just one letter and everything I had carefully buried was clawing its way back to the surface. I moved closer to the bed, my eyes lingering on his face. On those grey eyes I saw each day. Eyes that mirrored a past I tried so hard to forget. And in three days… I would have to face it all again.
