Blood pack chapter 1
THE BLOOD PACK
Chapter One: The Stranger in the Dark
Rain fell over the city like a curtain of silver, washing the streets clean while hiding the things that hunted beneath the darkness. At the edge of town stood an abandoned mansion surrounded by dead trees and iron gates. No human had lived there for decades. But inside, five vampires had made the ancient house their home. They had lived together for nearly a century, bound by blood, loyalty, and a promise that none of them would ever turn against another. At the center of the pack stood Darius, their alpha. He was calm when the others were reckless, merciless when they hunted, and strong enough to keep the five brothers from tearing each other apart.
That night, the five vampires sat around a massive wooden table while the storm shook the windows. Marcus, the oldest after Darius, was quiet and watchful. Lucian was charming but dangerous, always believing he could get whatever he wanted. Victor was the strongest physically and had a temper that could explode without warning. Adrian was the youngest and most curious, always questioning Darius's decisions. And then there was Darius himself, whose dark eyes seemed to see every secret the others tried to hide. They had just returned from a hunt when Darius suddenly lifted his head.
"Someone is outside."
The room became silent.
The vampires could hear things humans never could—the beating of hearts from blocks away, the whisper of footsteps across wet pavement, even the nervous rhythm of someone breathing in the darkness. But what Darius heard was different. There was no heartbeat. No human scent. Whatever was approaching was one of their kind.
The front doors slowly opened.
A woman stepped inside.
She was soaked from the rain, her long dark hair hanging over her shoulders. She looked young, but there was something ancient in her eyes. She wore a black coat and carried nothing except a small silver pendant around her neck. She stopped just inside the doorway and looked at the five vampires as if she already knew exactly who they were. For several seconds nobody spoke. Then she quietly said, "My name is Seraphina. I need somewhere to stay."
Lucian immediately stood.
Darius raised one hand, stopping him.
"Who sent you?" Darius asked.
"No one."
"Then how did you find us?"
Seraphina looked directly at him.
"I've been looking for you for a very long time."
Something about those words made the room colder.
Darius studied her carefully. Every instinct told him to be suspicious. Vampires did not simply wander into another vampire's territory without a reason. Yet there was something else he sensed from her—something powerful buried beneath the calm expression on her face.
Victor leaned toward Adrian and whispered, "She's dangerous."
Seraphina heard him.
She smiled.
"I am."
Victor's eyes narrowed.
For the first time in years, Darius felt uncertain.
He had no idea that allowing Seraphina through those doors would change everything. He didn't know that she would become the most important vampire any of them had ever known. He didn't know that his brothers would eventually fight one another because of her. And he certainly didn't know that one day, he and Seraphina might be the only two members of the pack still alive.
But that night, all Darius knew was that the stranger standing before him had brought something into his house that he could not control.
And somewhere far beyond the mansion, hidden in the darkness of the forest, another pair of eyes watched the house.
The vampire hunters had found them.
