THE BLOOD PACK
Chapter Two: The Blood Pact
Morning never truly came to the mansion.
Heavy curtains covered every window, keeping the deadly sunlight from entering the old house. The five vampires remained awake through the daylight hours, resting, talking, and preparing for their next hunt. But that morning, nobody was talking much. Seraphina sat alone near the fireplace, staring into the flames. She had been given a room upstairs, but none of the vampires had slept. Each of them had questions about her. More importantly, each of them wanted to know why she had chosen their pack.
Darius finally entered the room.
"You said you've been looking for us," he said. "Tell me why."
Seraphina slowly turned toward him. "Because I know what is coming."
Darius stopped.
"What is coming?"
"The hunters."
The word immediately changed the atmosphere in the room. Marcus looked up from his chair. Victor stood beside the fireplace. Adrian stopped sharpening the blade he carried on every hunt. Even Lucian, who normally treated danger like a game, became serious.
Darius walked closer. "How do you know about them?"
"Because they have been hunting me too."
Seraphina reached beneath her coat and pulled out a small piece of black metal. It was marked with a strange symbol—a circle surrounding a cross. Marcus recognized it immediately.
"The Order," he whispered.
Darius's expression hardened.
The Order was an ancient organization of vampire hunters that had existed for centuries. Most vampires believed the Order had disappeared generations ago. But Darius had always suspected they were still out there, waiting for the right moment to return.
Seraphina nodded. "They're not just hunting individual vampires anymore. They're building something. An army."
Victor clenched his fists. "Then we'll destroy them."
"You don't understand," Seraphina replied. "There are hundreds of them."
Victor stepped toward her.
"And you think we're afraid?"
Seraphina looked at him calmly.
"No. I think you're arrogant."
Lucian laughed from across the room.
"I like her."
Victor turned toward him. "Stay out of this."
Darius stepped between them before the argument could grow. "Enough."
His voice carried the authority of the alpha, and everyone immediately fell silent.
Darius looked at each member of his pack. "If the Order really is coming, we need to stay together. No jealousy. No fighting. No secrets."
His eyes moved toward Seraphina.
"And no one touches her."
Lucian raised an eyebrow.
Darius continued. "She stays under the protection of the pack. She is not someone's possession. She is not a prize. We protect her, and she protects us. That's the deal."
Seraphina looked at Darius with an expression he couldn't quite understand.
"Agreed," she said.
One by one, the others agreed.
That night, the six vampires stood in a circle beneath the moon. Darius cut his palm with a silver blade and allowed a single drop of blood to fall into an ancient stone bowl. The others did the same. Seraphina hesitated before finally cutting her own palm.
Darius spoke the ancient words of the Blood Pact.
"One blood. One hunt. One pack."
They each touched the blood in the bowl.
"One life."
The pact was sealed.
For a moment, everything felt right.
Then Lucian looked at Seraphina.
And Seraphina looked back.
Neither of them said a word.
But Darius noticed.
He noticed the way Victor watched her when she wasn't looking. He noticed Adrian becoming nervous whenever she entered a room. He noticed Marcus studying her as though he were trying to solve a mystery.
And he noticed something even more troubling.
His own eyes kept finding her.
Darius looked away.
The rules were simple.
She was part of the pack.
Nobody would touch her.
Nobody would fight over her.
Nobody would allow temptation to destroy them.
But vampires were creatures of hunger.
And not all hunger came from blood.
Deep in the forest, a horn sounded.
Once.
Twice.
Then a third time.
Darius immediately turned toward the sound.
The hunters had arrived.
The first hunt of the Blood Pack had begun.
