The gym had more people in it than the night before. Alarick assumed it was a lunch rush. People getting in a workout before the heading back to work. Theo was a little overwhelming with his excitement as they pulled into the parking lot. He knew his Gamma was just excited for him, but his constant question on the way were annoying. Marshal was at the front again as they entered.
“I knew you would be back soon.”
Alarick gave him a look of annoyance, “I honestly think I’m going insane and this seemed the most sane thing at the moment.”
Both men looked to him with a knowing eye. He had caught the scent today again. Her scent made him think of his childhood. Being part Japanese, green tea and jasmine were very present in his life. He knew smells often didn’t mean anything about where the person was from. Especially if they weren’t a werewolf. His mind had given up on the idea that his mate was a werewolf for some reason. The smell lingered differently today like either she was just in front of him or was still in the building.
“Who is working today?”
Marshal smiled, “Dawn and her assistant are in a meeting currently. They are both vampires. Then two other unmated females are here both wolves. Why is she in the building?”
He tried to focus on her scent. As he moved the other two men followed. He stopped in front of a door near the kitchen. Marshal raised a eyebrow. Alarick didn’t like the look he had given. He knew who was on the other side of the door.
“Who is in there?”
Marshal’s ears perked. “I was just told that I can’t tell you.”
“Was that telepathy?” Theo mused.
“No, sharp as ever I see, Theo.” Marshal nodded. “She said you need to come back tomorrow.”
Alarick gritted his teeth. “Can’t I have something? I’m literally losing my mind here.”
Marshal sighed, “what’s your favorite food?”
“Steak or spicy meatballs why?”
“She said that you can expect to eat here for lunch tomorrow. Also she likes to drink..”
“...green tea with honey. She want me to bring her some?”
Marshal gave a questioned smirk. “Yeah. Be here by 11:30am. If something comes up, just give me a call.”
Alarick grunted and headed out of the gym. Theo was close in tow. He knew he’d be asking a thousand questions on the way back. Alarick wanted to stay in the parking lot. He would wait while hoping she would come to him.
“What was that?” Theo turned in his seat, “can he mindlink with a vampire?”
Alarick’s head turn swiftly to look at Theo. “What did you just say?”
“A vampire. Sick, our Luna will be a vamp. I wonder what kind. The most common is blood sucker....I hope she is a pure bred. Oh man. This is so cool!”
“Why do you think she is a vampire?”
Theo gave him a grin, “well he said that the vampires were in a meeting. We know wolves would tear apart everything for there mate. You were right outside the door. How did you not force your way in?”
Something hit Alarick hard. He knew what his mate was not just a vampire. It would explain so much. The smell everywhere, the control he found that others didn’t, Veta and the communication with Marshal. Dawn was his mate. She was a council member, but also a empathic, but not just any empathic. The strongest one he heard of. She was the vampire that helped stop the last creature war. Now she was playing gym owner.
He knew he had just missed something from Theo, but his mind was racing with new thoughts of his mate. Theo wouldn’t know how much his incessant questioning had helped Alarick. His heart was pounding. When they got back to the pack, he would call Freya, Coven leader and ask about empathy. He wanted to be prepared. He knew his emotions could overwhelm her, he’ll they were overwhelming him.
“Earth to Alpha!”
Alarick coughed, “what?”
Theo chuckled surprisingly, “I’ve totally been talking to you.”
“I know who she is. I need to know more about her. Do we still have the council information in the office or was moved back to the library?”
Theo jumped from the car as we parked, “you told me that you wanted to keep them for unknown reasons. I think they are on the filing cabinet.”
Tonight would be his night to patrol. Everyone who was capable patrolled and he always thought that as a leader you should never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t do yourself. That meant he only had a few hours to get some work done and review the files. He needed to go over the expense report for the pack. He also needed to review how some of the pack’s businesses were doing. Veta and him needed to talk about tomorrow as well.
“I need to get back to work. Do you have any pack business today?”
Theo shrugged, “I was planning on meeting with Serenity to get on the same page about Carmen’s training. Being trained by her may take away that since of superiority. Outside that I will be with Tammy.”
“Alright I will see you tomorrow morning then. Thank you for coming with me.”
Theo nodded, “good luck with tomorrow, Alpha.”
He mind-linked Veta. *Can you meet me in the office?*
*Be right there.*
As he made into the office his phone vibrating. He looked down recognizing Freya’s number. He knew without asking that Veta had called her. Her mom was from Freya’s Coven and they talked quite frequently.
“Freya, thank you for calling.”
“Alarick, it is good to hear from you.”
Freya was very motherly. She often treated anyone she met like a long lost child. “I assume Veta talked to you.”
“Of course, you are dealing with an empathic or an empath. I have something I can send someone over with today.”
He smiled at the gesture. “We are dealing with an empathic. I have a meeting with her for lunch tomorrow. Will the item you sending over work on suppressing emotions?”
She cleared her throat. “If I didn’t know any better, Alpha, you are concerned for the vampire.”
He chuckled, “am I that obvious Freya?”
“Is she your mate?” He heard rattling through the phone. “It’s about damn time you met her. I’ll send over a suppressant, but I suggest talking to her before you take it. She may not have an issue feeling your emotions.”
“Thank you, Freya. I’ll let Veta know.”
Freya cleared her throat again, “have you talked to Orpheus?”
“I have not. She isn’t from his kiss. Do you think I should talk to him?”
She whispered something to someone in the room. “I think you should. If not to tell him, you found your mate.”
“Well I don’t know if she will accept me as her mate. I will relay information though. It is always good to stay all on the same page. Is he over there now? Is that who you were whispering to?”
She laughed, “you are too wise for your own good.”
“Did he listen in?”
Veta had walked in. “Freya?”
Alarick nodded with a smile, “and Orpheus.”
She wiggled her eyebrows. “Get some Freya.”
“Alarick, I didn’t mean to pry or hide my presence.”
“No worries, Orpheus. I know of your mate bond. It does not worry me. I have known you both for years and trust you.”
Orpheus laughed at something inaudible. “You assume Freya would relay for you?”
Alarick scratched his neck, “honestly, I think I’m not in my right mind. Veta talked about Freya, but asking an actual Vampire first would of been wiser.”
“I remember the feeling all too well. Even if it was forever ago.”
“Thank you both.”
Orpheus spoke up once more, “last thing Alarick. You will need to start mind training soon. I would speak to her about possibly explaining her abilities. She could also be half breed. So she may be more than one type of vampire. If you have any questions for us, feel free to call again. Please let us know how it goes.”
As he hung up the phone, Veta stood from her desk. “You have more news I see.”
Alarick leaned back, “tomorrow I meet my mate, Dawn.”
