Dawn had just come off a mission from the council and was returning to the gym. An aroma smashed her senses and was followed by a strong overbearing emotion. Her heart raced. Her beloved was in her gym. She wanted to burst through the door and find him. The scent of firewood, oranges and forest wafted toward her making her stumble. It was followed by the sweetest blood she ever smelled.
She knew Marshal was inside. It took everything within her to mask her scent and emotions. She knew if she wasn’t careful her emotions, not her smell, would alert her beloved. She walked in through the back door. Her gaze fell on a large Alpha. She cursed herself for not noticing the blood was werewolf blood. She took in his appearance. It took her full control not to run over and claim him. She needed to inform the council and speak to Marshal. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw an spunky blond join his side. They looked close.
“She-wolves piss me off sometimes. Unmated and seeking out Alphas.”
Without realizing it, she had pulled some emotions from the female. Her heart raced at the feeling. She noticed the woman had no romantic feelings toward her beloved and sighed. She needed to step out for fresh air before she did something else stupid. Her heart raced with longing as she got back into her car. She pulled out her phone.
“Hello my lord?”
The Vampire Lord sounded surprised. “Dawn my daughter, to what did I do to earn a call from you, my dear?”
She noted the terms of endearment, “my lord, I thought it would be wise to inform the council that I have scented out my beloved.”
An excited clap was heard through the phone. “Oh my dear you finally met the wolf?”
She never understood how he always knew things before her. “Yes, father. I have not made my presence known.”
“Well my dear, why are you waiting?”
She noted the shift to his fatherly tone. Growing up the daughter of the head vampire from the council was not an easy feat. It was harder when she took a role in the council. It was thrust upon her after her involvement in the last war. She never wanted to take a role on the council, though she was aware they eventually want her to fill her father’s role. Though it would be awhile before her immortal father allow her to take over.
“I didn’t want to overwhelm him. It isn’t often someone runs into a being like myself.”
Her father sighed, “I know all too well, my dear. Your mother was very hesitant to the news. Just don’t put it off too long... you could end up attacking him.”
She noted the caution in his tone. “Thank you, father. Anything else I should know?”
“I’d speak to Marshal. He will inform you of the council’s policy on finding your beloved. I will send your brother tomorrow. He will help out with the new gym. That way if you need extra help during this process you have it. He may bring Victoria.”
She made a mental note to set aside meeting times tomorrow. Hopefully her beloved wouldn’t come to the gym. She hadn’t noticed her death grip on her door handle until the sound of cracking plastic filled her ear. She sighed at the mess.
“Thank you again. I will call you when something changes.”
He laughed, “oh my dear, you will be too busy to talk.”
She winced at the unusual comment. “I love you, father.”
“I love you too my dear.”
She climbed to the passenger side and stepped out. The scent of her beloved was stronger than before. She hurriedly masked her scent and entered through the same entrance as before. She noted the emotions from her beloved. He had a feeling of deflation.
“Dawn!” Marshal waved. She didn’t notice him above the emotions swirling around her. “Whoa. Dawn....Dawn you need to stop.”
She snapped her head up as she felt a sense of panic flash through her. “Oh god! I’m so sorry Marshal.”
“The mission go that well. What happened you never lose control like that.” He adjusted himself and lifted from where he had fell to his knees. “You just missed Alpha Alarick.”
“Alarick....” his name sent a shiver through her body.
“Maybe you need to head home. We can talk tomorrow.”
She nodded as she chewed on her thumb. “You’re right. My brother will be here tomorrow as well.”
He flashed a look of worry. “Something happening?”
Her brother was a master. It was rare that they would leave their kiss. Her father’s words were final however. She would apologize to her brother tomorrow for the abruptness, but she knew he would understand. Her father, even though high in status, had never neglected his children. He instilled a passion for family and their future beloveds in them since they were children. They were all born pure bloods with the strongest vampire line coursing through their veins.
“I’ll explain tomorrow. I have a lot I have to sort through first.”
Marshal gave a concerned look. “If you need me text me. I’m about to head out. I’ll have Markus take over.”
She nodded and headed back to her car. His scent still lingered in the air. As she started driving she hadn’t noticed she took the wrong turn. Dawn looked up at the castle looking building. She had driven into a pack’s grounds. The pack house looked old. She knew that the pack in this territory was his. She let out a throaty growl and turned her vehicle around. That was too close. Dawn rubbed her face and headed toward home.
“That was too close for comfort.”
Her car was pulled to a stop as a pair of wolves waved her down. “Hello, may we ask why you are so close to the pack house?”
She sighed, “apology. I thought I smelled my beloved. I am heading home. I must have been mistaken.”
They looked to each other. She noticed a familiar scent fill her nose. They smiled at the look she had given. Dawn noticed a flicker of hope pass through the two werewolves.
“Is it the Alpha?”
She looked up in shock. “Why would you think that?”
“There are only two people that live in that direction. Alpha Alarick and Beta Loveta.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
The young female looked to the male. “We won’t tell him you were here, if that is what you are worried about. We are close to the Alpha.”
Dawn felt a sense of pride. “Are you related to him?”
“Oh my goodness! It is him isn’t it!” The young male jumped. “We are his younger siblings.”
She smiled. “Well I’m Dawn. We will more than likely get to know each other very soon.”
“I’m Taika and this is my sister Tala. It is so nice to meet you Dawn. Hopefully next time you are here, you’re with him. You won’t reject him correct?”
Dawn couldn’t hide the fearful gaze. “I don’t think I could survive that. I just hope it won’t be a one sided thing.”
