Chapter 15

Gamma Greg blew the whistle signaling the end of morning training.  All of the wolves stopped sparring or exercising and most had a grateful look on their face.  Greg looked around with a smirk on his face.  " You wolves act as if this was a difficult session.  I actually took it easy on you.  Tomorrow we will add an extra hour to help build up your stamina."  he heard a few groans and moans coming from the pack members.  He knew they were tired but he had to whip them into shape if they wanted to take the title of best warriors in a pack.  The full moon festival was coming up soon and he planned on having the best fighters there.  They have won the last two trophies and he knew the other packs were doubling their training to try and take the title this year.  " I would say good job but its just beginning.  So hit the showers and have a good breakfast."  He turned to walk into the gym to put up the equipment that was brought outside.  He chose to train the wolves outside as long as possible before it got too cold to enjoy the weather.  Plus he was able to breathe better when they were outside.  With such a  high metabolism, wolves tend to sweat and body odor of a dozen wolves could choke even the best of them.  As he walked into the gym he noticed Sam punching the sparring bag.  He watched him for a while.  His form was a little off and he was swinging out a little too wildly.  Greg knew he was not punching to train but to blow off steam.  He shook his head as he walked over to speak to the young wolf.  Sam was breathing a little heavy as he continued to punch the punching bag.  He had been punching for the last forty five minutes.  He was starting to get tired but the frustration was still there.  Finally he noticed that someone was standing off to the side watching him.  He stopped hitting the bag and turned around.  Greg was standing there with a frown on his face.  " Your form is off."  Sam just shrugged and took the boxing gloves off.  They both walked over to the benches to sit. Sam reached under the bench and picked up his bottle of water.  After chugging down the water greedily he wiped his mouth and looked at his older brother's close friend.  Greg and Michael grew up together.  The went to elementary and  high school together.  Michael went away to college while Greg stayed at the pack.  His grandmother was getting on in years and he did not want to leave her to travel even though that was his dream to travel around the country.  He stayed to take care of her and continued to train to be a pack warrior.  When Michael came back home he brought Joseph with him.  While they both were juniors in college, Joseph home pack was destroyed by rouges.  He lost all of his family and had no pack home to return to after graduation.  To keep him from becoming rouge, Michael asked his father to take Joseph in and make him a pack member.  Joseph happily joined  the Pine tree pack and brought his mate Tiffany.  After they both joined, they got married.  Greg was surprised when Michael approached him about being his Gamma.  He knew they were close friends as children but felt they drifted apart then he returned home from college.  Michael made sure he understood that he only wanted people he trust and felt comfortable around to be in his inner circle and a ranked pack member.    Greg slightly shook his head to dismiss those thoughts.  He focused on Sam and saw that even though the young wolf would smile and be polite to the members, there was a sadness in his eyes that he could not hide.  He knew it had something to do with the pretty human that loved to sing and dance whenever she was here hanging out with him or his sister.  He had not seen her in a long time and wondered what happened.  " So what's going on with you ?  I have not seen you training with us.  When you first came home form military school you were out here daily.  I was looking forward to having you train some of the younger pups coming up.  Then you started hanging out with your sister's friend and stopped training."  He let his question trail off, hoping Sam would jump in and talk about what happened and why he was so sad.  Sam just looked at him and shook his head.  "Well, she does not come around any more, so I guess I can get back into training."  He started to tap the empty water bottle against the chair leg.  After ten seconds of letting Sam tap the bottle, Greg grabbed the bottle and rolled his eyes.  " Ok, enough with the tapping! Why don't you tell me what has you in such a funky mood.  I can't have you training with my men or training the pups and you don't have your head together."  Sam huffed and leaned back into the higher bench behind him.  " Its been five months since I last saw Willa.  We were doing so well.  Went out on a date and it was just getting better from there. She would come over to see me and sometimes I would go into town to see her.  We were going on dates and every thing was great. It all went to hell in a hand basket back in June when Clarissa came downstairs one day and saw us together on the couch.  She flew into a rage and embarrassed Willa with a bunch of lies and false accusations.  Finally Alpha came and made Willa leave the pack grounds and forbade me from seeing her."  Greg raised his eyebrow "forbade? or did he tell you not to go after her but to give some space and time for your sister to calm down?  I was not there that day but it got around the pack what happened."  Sam looked at Greg like he was getting upset all over again.  Greg watched his eyes change colors from brown to black to brown again.  He knew Sam was fighting with his wolf Simba.  He decided to ask a question to distract him.  " I never thought you would give up so easily. Why didn't you try to contact her later after everything calmed down?"  Sam hung his head in shame.  " I didn't think she would want to talk to me.  I didn't exactly stand up for her when all that happened.  I let her walk away and didn't try to contact her for a while.  I was too ashamed.  I would sneak into town and watch her."  Greg raised his eyebrow at that. "You watched her?"  Sam shook his head.  " Yeah, at night I would stand across the street from her house and look at her through the window.  Sometimes I would go to her dancing school and stand outside the class.  They have a window for the parents to watch their children and I would go to watch her dance."   "She didn't see you?" asked Greg. "No, its only one way to keep the dancers from being distracted."  "Sounds creepy." said Greg.  "Well it was the only way for me to see her.  I was there in August when she received a scholarship to a human college to dance.  She looked so happy and excited.  I wish I could have celebrated with her.  I would have taken her out to a nice Italian restaurant.  She loves Italian food.  Instead I watched her walk away with her family."  "So all this time you never made an attempt to talk to her and explain what happened.  I think she would understand that you had to obey the command from your Alpha."  Sam looked like he was holding back.  Greg peered into his face. "Spit it out. I seem to be the only wolf you can talk to about this.  I actually liked her.  She was so silly that you could not help but laugh with her.  Even when she called me double G.  At first I tried to act like I hated it but it started to grow on me."  Sam gave a lopsided smile and the quickly frowned.  " I did attempt to talk to her.  About four weeks into it, I finally got up the nerve to walk up to her house to speak to her."  "Did you?"  "No, her sister answered the door and told me it was in my best interest to leave Willa alone and let her finally get over me."  Sam looked like he was about to cry.  He shook his head as if to dismiss the thoughts and stood up.  " I better go and shower, its almost time for breakfast."  Greg watched Sam walk out of the gym.  He looked so miserable.
