Chapter 4

Chapter 4 ALPHA Kael The vase hadn’t satisfied me. Neither did the broken glass now scattered across the floor, like tiny judgments of my inability to control myself. And it was all her fault. I paused. “How's Princess Elara's father doing?” I mindlinked the gamma leader who I had sent out as a spy to Elara's pack. “He had a feast.” My gamma reported and I could feel anger bubbling through my veins. I had taken away Elara from him to crush him, to break his pride and show him that he might have been in control 20 years ago; might have been in control of my parents but times had changed. I was the one to call the shot. And now he was having a feast knowing fully well I was going to hurt his daughter. I scoffed. My hands curled into fists at my sides, knuckles cracked from clenching too hard. Mate. That word had no business echoing in my head. Not now. Not with her. I didn’t want a mate. I wanted her and her father to feel the pain I had to endure all these years while I sought revenge. I wanted them to feel how hurting it is to be shattered into pieces. And the goddess? That vindictive she wolf just laughed in my face. I stared at the door she had just walked out of—Elara. Or whoever the f**k she was. Something about her felt...off. It was as though she wore Elara’s skin but wasn’t her, I had studied Elara long enough to know her personality. A calm princess, full of peace she didn't deserve and the apple of her father's eye. Now all that was in shambles as it now seemed like a lie. Her eyes weren’t full of fear like I had known, they had fire, defiance and she was damn daring. I punched the wall and I heard my bones crackle like they had broken into pieces. This is another full moon, I stared out the window remembering my promise. I will avenge you. And to do that, I had to start with sorting out this mate issue. She was just a breeder and nothing more, just a tool to break her father into a million pieces. I walked out the door directly to the maids quarters. “How is this even possible? I can swear I'm mated to the Alpha so how could I possibly be mated with you?” I paused in my tracks as I heard her half yelling. Mated with you? Who? Who else? “I have no idea what you're talking about, Miss Elara. I suggest you return to your quarters, the Alpha would call for you soon.” Alaric snapped, his grip on the dagger he was holding tightening. “You're pretending not to notice it. I know you do.” She accused, and I clenched my teeth. “Miss Elara, don't cross the line. You're the Alpha's breeder. Nothing else.” He groaned. “Yes, the Alpha's breeder, his mate and your mate. You know you can't hide it for long. Or what? Perhaps I should enlighten him now?” She said with a malicious smile, pretending to walk towards my chambers and I hid behind a pillar. Why? Why am I hiding behind a pillar? “Do not do that.” He warned, grabbing her wrist. “f**k,” I growled, dragging a hand down my face. She wasn't just some breeder. She was my mate and the scent was unmistakable now, lingering like sin in the room. But worse than that? She was Alaric’s too? I knew. I tried to mindlink him but didn't say a word, just raising up the wards small enough to feel the sound of his heartbeat skipping a beat. I should kill him for wanting to hide it from me. Or her. Or both. The goddess must be playing with me, because there is no damn way she’d do this. Just my mate? I could fight. But a harem? What the hell was this? Some divine punishment? I turned and walked back, jaw clenched so tight it ached. My wolf was prowling, pacing inside of my head. “She’s changed,” I muttered to the wind. “Too bad the blood running in her veins didn't change. It would always be poisonous.” I returned to my chambers and mindlinked my head maid immediately. “Nala?” I called out. “Yes, Alpha?” “Bring Elara back to my room,” I said. “Now.” I instructed and I heard her hesitate. “Princess Elara? Shall I prepare—?” “Just bring her.” I cut in abruptly and blocked her out. I poured a glass of whiskey, tossed it down my throat, and smashed the glass against the wall. The nerve she has to be alive. The nerve her father has to even cherish her or even be alive after what he did. I was going to make sure he felt like dying every step of the way. I hadn't taken over his pack just yet because slow vengeance is always the best. I would f**k her. Breed her. Fill her until she had no room left to deny what she was. Let the goddess laugh now. Let her father choke when he hears his daughter is carrying my heir. Or even worse, when he hears how she died at my hands. Just like my family died at his. The door creaked open. I didn’t turn immediately. I heard the footsteps, soft but hesitant, and then her voice, confused, filled with the defiance I was beginning to loathe. “You sent for me?” She asked looking disconcerted, “You threw me out earlier—” “Shut up,” I snapped, turning to face her while my wolf roared, threatening to break loose. “You talk too damn much.” She froze. Her little conversation with Alaric must have ruffled her feathers. “I’m not here for your questions. I’m not here to stroke your little ego or listen to your smart mouth.” I stalked toward her. She didn’t retreat. Of course not. The damn fire in her eyes again. I hated it. I wanted to crush it. Or maybe I wanted to drown in it. I didn’t know anymore. “You’re here for one reason,” I smiled, “To take what I give you, to call out to daddy for help like you're accustomed to doing.” Her breath hitched as I grabbed her chin roughly, forcing her eyes to mine and with my left hand, I ripped her gown and pressed my lips against hers. I pushed her to the bed, dragging off the last layer of clothing and I smiled when I saw tears in her eyes. “I…I might be your breeder but…this is rape. I'm not ready for this.” She said in a low voice, covering her bare chest with her hands instinctively. She looked scared, terrified even. Good. Right? No, damn it! Not good. This is what I wanted right? For her to be at my control. Yet…I was many things but not a rapist. “That's the point,” I let out a dry chuckle, “you shouldn't be ready. That must be the reason why the goddess picked me for you. To ruin you just as much as your father ruined me.” I grunted, grabbing both of her hands in one of mine and slamming it just above her head. “What…what did my father do to you that makes you want to take it out on me?” She queried and the world went silent for a moment. I stared at her and she looked like she was genuinely curious. That's weird. She knew, she knew what he did so why was she suddenly asking and looking so damn genuine and interested in hearing it. I squinted my eyes and got off her immediately. “Who are you?” I asked, tilting my head to the side while keeping my eyes squinted. She paused and stared at me for a quick second like in contemplation. I bit my lips waiting for a reply, looking all over her with concern. Is she losing her memories or what? “Princess Elara.” She answered and I stared at her in confusion. What's going on? “You're not Elara, are you?”
