I close my phone and sit there in awe. I can't believe he actually texted me. I had written him off weeks ago and had forgotten all about the incident in Geometry class. I'm almost giddy, he is gorgeous especially in his baseball hat. I can't believe he is actually interested in me in any type of way. I'll just be his friend if he wants, just to be around him would be thrilling. I thought about calling Jessica, or even Mary or Rachel but I decide to keep this one to myself for a while. I feel like I'm walking on a cloud, I actually cannot wait until school on Monday.
I float down the stairs and into the kitchen to grab a bowl of cereal. I can't hide my smile.
"What are you so happy about this morning" my mom asks.
"Oh nothing. I have a question, would it be ok if a couple of my friends from my audio production class come over next weekend and hang out?"
"I don't see why not. As long as all your chores are done, sure"
"Thanks mom!" I kiss her and take my cereal into the kitchen.
Sunday morning I wake up to a text from Brayden: "Good morning!"
"Good morning" I reply.
"I know you said you had a busy weekend but I just wanted to say hi"
"Thanks! Hello to you too."
"Ok, well have a great day, I'll see you tomorrow"
What a perfect day to start out my Sunday. I smile as I get out of bed and hop in the shower to get ready to go to church with my family. It's a beautiful October morning. I'm not a fan of fall because that means winter is just around the corner but I will say, I can appreciate a fall day like today. It's the south so it's still pretty warm outside in October but you can still feel the ever so slight chill in the air. The humidity is low and the sun is a brilliant orangish yellow. The leaves have started to change colors, it really is a sight to be seen. After church, we go out for brunch as is typical for my family. Today it's Brigs, one of my favorites. They are busy but we are seated fairly quickly. My mom on one side, Dad next to her and my siblings on the opposite end.
"Savannah Grace, tell us about these friends you wanted to have over from your audio production class next weekend", my mom says. My dad raises his eyebrow as he joins the conversation.
"Jackson and his best friend Brayden. Brayden is on the basketball team and they've been best friends for ever"
"Two boys, huh?" my dad looks over
"I was unaware that they were guys, I just figured they were a couple more of your girlfriends"
"They're nice boys mom"
"Ok but no going into your bedroom and keep all the doors open"
"Yes mom" I say rolling my eyes. My brothers are paying no attention to the conversation we are having on the other side of the table. They are more interested in trying to toss their ice cubes up and catch them in their mouths. Ugh, boys. I know my mom trusts me and she knows that I wouldn't do anything to break that trust. We finish our meals and head home for the couple hours before I go to youth group for the evening.
That night as I lay down for bed, I am suddenly hit with a rush of excitement. I get to see Brayden tomorrow for the first time since we started texting. Butterflies fill my stomach. I've never had butterflies before. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I even did something that I never do, I picked out my outfit the day before school! Who am I? I drift off to sleep with visions of Brayden Black floating around in my head.
