No..." My hands fly to my ears at the words leaving his mouth. Impossible. It…can't be. "Pregnant?" I repeat. Why? Why is it that my focus is on the woman he decided to kill our five-year marriage with is pregnant rather than the fact that he had an affair with his co-worker? "Maddison." He says my name, but somehow it feels different, leaving his mouth; no, not different, disgusting. "Do not say my name!" My hand reaches the vase beside me, tossing it to his face, anything to get him to shut his mouth. He dodges. Thank God, I do not need murder charges to my name. Not when I wanted to be a nurse. Hah...a nurse…for us. My dream. "Mad-" "Shut up! If it is not to take back your words as some sort of sick joke, shut the hell up, Gabriel!" Oh…God… Why isn't he defending himself? Why is he actually 'shutting up'? Is he not going to take back the admittance of his affair? "H-how long?" I am contradicting myself by asking him that question—I know. But how long have they been screwing behind my back? Since when has our five-year marriage been a joke to him? Maddison First, let me tell you all how it all started. I met my husband in college. We were both going to the University of Springfield in Missouri. We were both there on academic scholarships. I was studying to become a Nurse and he was studying to be an Engineer. We had both bumped right into each other because we had our heads in our books. "Oh no, my papers. Let me go get them for you,” he tells me. He comes back with them and hands me my papers, while I am gathering our books and stacking them in separate piles. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you like that. No, it's okay he tells me. I should have been watching where I was going as well. We both bend down to grab our books and our hands touch. The moment they touch I look into his eyes he had the most beautiful ice-blue eyes I had ever seen. What's your name, he asks me while I just stared at him. My name, I say, oh it is Maddison Wong. Nice to meet you my name is Gabriel Matthews or you can call me Gabe. It's nice to meet you, Gabriel. If you don't mind I need to hurry and get to my math class. What math class do you have exactly? Oh, I have Algebra I for my first year college semester as my math class. That is pretty impressive for a freshman in college. How do you know that I am a freshman? I ask him. I could tell just by looking at some of the courses you taking, plus I saw your schedule. Most of them are the usual courses that freshmen take here at the University of Springfield. What is your major? He asks me. I tell him that I am studying for my BSN in Nursing with a minor in Literature. Then I ask him what is his major. My major is Engineering. That is a great field I tell him and there are lots of opportunities for engineers as well. Yep, there sure are he says. Is it alright if I walk with you, my class is in the building right next to yours he says. It is fine I say, it is not as if I am going to see him again anyway, I say to myself. We head to the math department and he walks me to my Algebra class, I say to him thank you very much and head inside the class. I will see you around I tell him. You will for sure see me around he says. I just look at him and go inside shaking my head. It was good that I only had about five minutes to go over the curriculum again before the Professor walked in. His name is Professor Joseph Miller and he has a Master's Degree in Mathematics. I'm good at math, but I heard that Algebra is hard in College. Once my class is over I head to the cafeteria to get something to eat. That is when I see my roommate Sally for the next four years sitting down at a table. She was on her laptop with her headphones on. I grab my food and head over to her table. Sally I say, she doesn't hear me so I waved my hand in front of her. Sally finally looks up and says hey what are you doing here? Well, my class is over so I thought I would come to the cafeteria to get a bite to eat. Anyways, so what class are you studying for? Oh, I have to write a research paper for the Astronomy class. We have to research the stars and comets, all that stuff. Hey, wait a minute you never ask about my classes? What gives, she says. Nothing, can't I ask about your class? Uh-huh, she says to me spill or I am telling everyone that you sing in the shower when you are by yourself. You wouldn't dare. Tell me or I will do it. Fine, I say, on my way to class I had my head in my book like I normally do. When suddenly I bumped into this guy. We didn't see other because he had his head in his book too. My papers were scattered everywhere, so he went and got them for me, came back, and returned them to me. As I was stacking our books in a neat pile side by side our hands touched. Then I looked up and he had the most beautiful ice-blue eyes, with curly brown hair. Oh my goodness Maddison, so did you get the cute guy's number or give him yours? Yes, I did get his name, but did not get his number because I did not want to be late for class. Tell me what is his name? His name is Gabriel Matthews. Sally looked at me with this shocked look on her face. What is with the face? I ask her. Did you run into Gabriel Matthews or did you both bump into each other? We both bumped into each other. Oh my, you just bumped into one of the hottest guys in the Engineering Department. Sally, how do you know that he is majoring in Engineering? Oh, it is because his best friend had asked me out and I said yes. It is not by coincidence that Gabriel just happened to bump into me, is it? Well, no not exactly she tells me. It is that you were bummed out about being away from home. I figure since this is both our first year of college what could it hurt if we went out with some guys? Not just any guys mind you she says, but hot guys. Sally look at me and look at you. You can have any guy you want because you're pretty. Now look at me I'm just a plain Jane who would want to take me out on a date? I would love to take you out, said Gabriel. That is when I turned around and saw Gabriel and I take it his best friend standing at our table. Excuse me how long have the both of you been standing there? We have been standing here since you said that I was a hot guy. That's when I blushed, then whispered to Sally. Did you know that they were standing there? Yes, I did but Gabriel didn't want me to say a word. Great now I just embarrassed myself in front of him. I wouldn't call it embarrassment he says. What would you call it then? Let's just say it is you being honest and you are not a plain Jane either. How do you know that? I hardly wear any makeup and I don't dress like normal girls do when looking for a guy. Not to say that I am looking. However, some guys are just into pretty looks and not what is on the inside. As for you asking me out yeah, as if you would want to. The next thing I know Gabriel is grabbing my hand and looking at me and then he asks me. Maddison, will you go out on a date with me? I try my hardest to stay cool and not jump and down in front of him. I say okay I would love to go out with you. Alright then, we will pick you two up tonight at 7:00 pm. It is a good thing that it was the weekend and curfew wasn't until 2:00 am on the weekends. I get back to my seat as Gabriel and Jason walk away. I said to Sally both of us have dates with two hot guys can you believe it? Nope, I do not she says, but I know that we're going to have fun. Oh and by the way, as I smack her on her arm. Ouch, what was that for? That was for letting me ramble on and not giving me a hint as to who was standing at our table. Maddison, I told you he didn't want me to say anything. It was still embarrassing though. Alright, Sally says to me let’s go get ready for our double date tonight. How am I going to get ready I don't have anything to wear. You can borrow one of my outfits Sally said we are practically the same size anyways. We bead back to our dorm room to get ready. Once we are ready there is a knock at our door. Is it 7:00 pm already? Sally looks at her watch oh it is just 6:58 early well. There was a knock again and so I opened the door. Alright, Sally says to me let’s go get ready for our double date tonight. How am I going to get ready I don't have anything to wear.
