I was halfway through making a grocery list when my phone rang. It was Marcus again. The moment I heard his voice, I knew it wasn’t good news. Tovia… Adam’s gone off the rails.” I set the pen down. “What now?” “He went to that coffee shop downtown — you know, the one near the park — and guess who he sat down with?” My stomach dropped. “Don’t say it.” “Jason.” I swore under my breath. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Marcus sighed. “They didn’t throw punches or anything, but Adam… he’s in bloodhound mode. Said he’s going to ‘get the truth out of him.’” I paced the kitchen, clutching my phone. This was exactly what I’d warned Nora about. If Adam kept sniffing around, it was only a matter of time before the whole setup unraveled. “Thanks for telling me,” I muttered, ending the call.
