Chapter Twenty-Three – Prison Life A warder stood next to the open door of Albert’s cell. “Come with me,” he said. “You’re being transferred.” Albert followed the warder through a barred door, into a narrow corridor and through another barred door into another hall. The warder led Albert to his new cell. Albert looked around with a sense of intense relief. The cell was as large again as the one he had left. The floor was of wood instead of slate. It contained a camp bedstead on which lay a mattress which Albert later discovered was a sack the length of the bed, stuffed with coconut fibre.
