Prolongue
Ryen - POV
I stared out at the city lights through the window, distant and almost unreal, as a part of me tried to understand how everything had come to this point. Every corner of this apartment, once filled with laughter, now felt submerged in an unbearable emptiness. It was as if the memories of good times had blurred, overshadowed by Dominic’s constant absence and our disconnected lives.
The truth is, I knew when things started slipping away. First, it was the late hours, then the excuses, and eventually, the silence. Dominic was always so absorbed in his work that it felt like there was no room left for us. And somewhere along the way, I stopped fighting, too. I stopped trying to bring back the man I loved and the relationship that had once meant everything.
Now, with a pen in my hand and the final divorce paper in front of me, the weight of this decision pressed down on me. It was a mixture of pain and relief. It was the end of a story I’d never wanted to close, but at the same time, maybe it was a chance to find peace. To really start over, with a new life ahead.
But everything changed a few days later, when the unexpected hit me like a storm. That fragile peace shattered as I stared at the positive test in my hands. A new life, growing inside me. I was pregnant—with my ex-husband’s child.
And there, alone, looking down at that tiny piece of plastic, I realized that my story with Dominic wasn’t over. No matter how many pages I wanted to turn, fate had other plans for the two of us.
