Chapter 1 Mamba/Carmen
POV Mamba/Carmen
It was the day of my little nephews christening and I was proud to call him my godson. The sun was shining and he was so cute in his white traditional robes and hat. All of my family stood around my sister holding her new born son and I couldn’t stop smiling because she had come such a long way in those past few years and now she was the happiest girl in the world. It was such a lovely day but it wasn’t all roses. The problem was that his god father was my ex, and we had to stand side by side in front of the priest and fake smile when really I wanted to rip his head off. I couldn’t even look at him, but that didn’t stop him from saying sarcastic comments under his breath in my direction. The christening was being held in my oldest brother’s holiday home in Italy and the view of the coast was spectacular. I tried to ignore my ex, so I tuned him out and concentrated on the sound of the sea crashing up onto the beach behind us. This was my happy place but I had another problem.. he wasn’t my only ex at the Christening. I couldn’t swing a cat without it hitting some guy that had broke my heart. I kept my distance from them the whole day because I didn’t have the energy for their bullshit. I stood out by the pool as the sun started to go down but the party was still in full swing. I have a huge Italian family and christenings were the best excuse for a party. Well not just christenings, we loved weddings and funerals. Our mother was Italian but she’d moved to London to marry our father. London was our home but our hearts were in Italy. My father had been an awful man but even he had loved our family parties. I sipped my red wine and spilled some onto my white dress. “That’s a sign of bad luck” said my cousin but I’d had enough bad luck to last me a life time. I excused myself as I dabbed the stain on my dress. I walked further down towards the sea when I spotted a crowd of men from the party and nearly every one of them were my brothers. They were huddled together and cheering and I wondered what the hell they were up to now. As I got closer I realised that my two ex boyfriends were at the centre of the huddle and they were punching each other in the face. My brothers were shouting bets to each other “my moneys on Jack” and “I’ll give you good odds on Adam” I didn’t know what to do, so I decided to slowly back away before anyone caught sight of me. I wondered why these two men were still in my life and how I could get out of there without them spotting me. That’s when I backed up straight into my oldest brother Antonio. I whispered to him to let me go but he was having none of it. “Look who I found?” He yelled as my brothers laughed and made jokes at my expense. “Please stop them from fighting” I pleaded as he dragged me towards the fight. He kissed my forehead “only you can stop this Carmen” and he was right, but I didn’t know what to do and I wondered how this had all started. It was such a mess. I looked up to the sky and muttered “oh my god” and my brother laughed “even god can’t help you now”.. I hate it when he’s right.
