CHAPTER 004

CHAPTER 004 Sebastian has tortured me daily since he started his arduous search, but I refuse to reveal Oliver's hiding place. Two weeks have now passed since Sebastian initiated this mission, and I still can't understand what's stopping him from finding Oliver or killing me instantly. Every morning I prayed that today would finally be my death, yet somehow, life kept happening to me. Life seemed determined to play a strange game on me, making each day seem like a punishment in itself. Meanwhile, Sebastian was just getting ready to leave when his phone rang with an unexpected caller, it was his secretary on the other end, and for once she seemed interested in what Sebastian had to say. "We have found our location, but I have sent some of our men to London to gather more information about a potential new organization," she reported. Sebastian stood up straight, his voice cooler than normal. "Good. Please let me know what they find." New organizations were appearing everywhere, trying to take control of what Sebastian had already built. They sent in spies as new recruits into mafia groups to gather intelligence on how things operated—but Sebastian was quick on his feet, using their presence against them by tracking down and controlling those organizations. "Keep me updated as soon as they arrive in London," he instructed his secretary before abruptly ending their call. Sebastian's phone rang again, and this time I knew exactly who it was: his father. I could easily imagine the purpose of this call—probably his dad's concern about the hunt for Leo's killer, and Sebastian's expected response. Sebastian let the phone ring twice before answering. "Hello. How may I assist?" he inquired. "Why the delay?" his father demanded and was impatient with any delay. Sebastian tightened his grip around the phone in surprise at receiving such an unexpected call. "I was busy; I didn't expect your call." His father seemed unconcerned; all of his focus was on finding justice for his nephew. "How's the hunt going, any progress?" was all that mattered in his words. "Yes," Sebastian replied. "We discovered that Oliver Brooks is responsible for Leo's death." "Oliver Brooks?" his father asked again, seemingly confirming what he had just heard. "Yes," Sebastian responded tensely. "But we don't have him yet." His father became furious. "Not yet?! It has been nearly a month and a half! That criminal is still out there somewhere! Could you please explain why he hasn't been caught yet? I entrusted you with this task—my brother's son deserves justice!" "I'm trying, Father," Sebastian replied in an increasingly frustrated tone as frustration mounted. Oliver has one step on us; finding his hiding places will be our only path forward. "He doesn't even have a home!" his father shouted angrily. Sebastian was becoming frustrated. "He doesn't live at his house anymore, but we have his sister here." "And two months have gone by with no sign of him? Could you please confirm if he has not been located yet? His father's voice was almost mocking. "We're monitoring him daily," Sebastian said, attempting to maintain his composure. His father was not pleased, insisting he go speak with her right away: "Get her talking! Don't waste any more time! Get answers now!" I could sense Sebastian's nervous energy. He knew what his father wanted and refused to budge in response. "She won't tell us where he is?" his father inquired in frustration. "We've done it all," Sebastian declared smugly. "No," his father replied indignantly. "You haven't done what needs to be done yet - don't tell me you've softened up for her." Sebastian narrowed his eyes. "I am not soft," he stated in a tone that suggested submissiveness. "Let's do something quickly. I'll come over to your region myself and handle things for you," his father advised him. "I hope to see you tonight." Sebastian was frustrated. The phone had just ended before he could speak, yet now his attention had to be diverted away from meeting with an associate and to dealing with his father's unexpected arrival. Sebastian instead made his way to my confinement, where they were holding me. Once there, the guard opened the door for him. My body tightened as soon as I saw Sebastian; as soon as he entered, I felt overwhelmed with fear; I tried mustering up enough courage to confront him, but his cold, dark gaze left my stomach quivering with every glance in his direction. "Haven't you had enough of me yet? Every day you torture me; what more do you want from me?" My voice was hoarse from everything that had gone before. Sebastian was unflappable; he knew exactly what he wanted and refused to stop until it was obtained. "Miss Brooks, you understand exactly what I want. I won't rest until it's mine!" "Leave me alone now," I pleaded. My boldness took him by surprise, causing his eyebrow to arch slightly. No one had ever dared address him in such a direct way before me; no one ever dared look him in the eye the way I had. But I wasn't about to back down. "You won't go anywhere," he replied, his voice calm and cold. "Until I say otherwise." His aim wasn't simply for word exchange; instead, he came here to inform everyone that tonight would be different; they would be having a special guest join them at their table. My mind raced, wondering if perhaps tonight was my last night on earth. Sebastian turned around, speaking over his shoulder: "Please get her something to eat; I don't want her dying of an empty stomach. After his departure, my mind raced with questions: what were they planning? Who was this guest he mentioned? The way he mentioned him seemed as though this person were some sort of god figure. Regardless of what would occur tonight, something told me it wouldn't end well for me. As I sat there in stunned silence, my thoughts raced: Was Sebastian even human? His lack of compassion or empathy towards my suffering bothered me deeply; yet tonight could very well be my last night here if the present truly were to be my final breaths. I couldn't help but wonder what awaited me.
