As the chilly wind blew through her hair, Natalie stood at the verges, willing to make the last, perpetual move. Her arm was seized by a hard but gentle hand that pulled her back. She looked around in horror as her eyes grew wide, and to her surprise, she saw an exquisite woman standing behind her. "Why do you want to kill yourself, young lady?" Lillian Jameson asked softly. Her voice was calm but firm, carrying the weight of genuine care. Through the tears streaming down her face, Natalie managed to choke out, "My life is shattered. I have nowhere to go. Everyone has abandoned me. Isn't it better to end this pain?" Lillian's expression softened even more as she pleaded, "Please, come down from the edge. Ending your life is not the solution to your problems." Her tone was so earnest that Natalie found herself hesitating, then stepping away from the brink. Natalie was escorted to Lillian's car, which was parked nearby, and they went to her house. Natalie remained mute throughout the journey, lost in her despair, while Lillian chatted gently, hoping to brighten her spirits. "Life has a way of surprising us, even though it doesn't seem like it right now, you have so much more to live for." "I know it feels like the end," Natalie felt a ray of hope as they arrived at Lillian's home, which was warm and welcoming. Lillian guided Natalie into home, reassuring her to feel at home. The warmth and hospitality of Lillian's staff helped ease Natalie's troubled mind. After a comforting meal, Lillian guided Natalie to a beautifully furnished room, its cozy atmosphere a stark contrast to the turmoil she had been feeling. Natalie marveled at the unique interior of the room, whispering to herself, "One day, I'll be rich and have those who betrayed and abandoned me begging at my feet." She enjoyed the idea, a rekindled sense of resolve rising within her. She felt safe and at ease in the bed for the first time in a day after taking a rejuvenating shower. As she went to sleep, her heart hurt with pain, and again for the first time in an age, it was also full of hope and determination. Lillian's maid had already made her and Natalie a substantial meal when the brilliant dawn flooded Lillian's house. Natalie emerged from her room, noticeably less sad than the night before. She greeted Lillian with gratitude, thanking her for the lifeline she had offered the previous night and for helping her find hope amidst her despair. Lillian smiled warmly in return, insisting that Natalie didn't need to thank her. "No matter what life throws at you, you must learn to find a solution," she advised gently. Seeing Natalie's smile and hearing her chuckle, Lillian felt relieved to see the shift in her mood. Natalie was invited to have breakfast with Lillian at the dining room table. Lillian had a business call while they were eating, she excused herself to head to the office. She advised Natalie to get more rest and that she could ask the staff if she needed anything as she bid her farewell. Natalie took her place at the dining table, filled with thankfulness and fresh hope for the day, as Lillian left for her workplace. After a few weeks of staying at Lillian's home, Natalie observed that Lillian was a hardworking and successful architect. She became interested in learning about Lillian's work, seeing it as a potential path forward for herself. One evening, as Lillian returned from the office and settled down to work on her laptop in the corridor, Natalie approached her tentatively. "Mrs. Jameson, can I speak to you for a while?" Natalie asked, interrupting Lillian's concentration. "Yes, just give me a few minutes to finish what I'm working on," Lillian said, maintaining her concentration on her task for a brief while before shifting her gaze to Natalie. A few minutes later, Lillian asked Natalie what was troubling her and asked her to sit. I'm interested in knowing more about your vocation. Natalie spoke in a soft but genuine tone at first. “I don't know how to get commenced, but I would really admire it if I could be taught, Ma'am." Lillian smiled warmly at Natalie's request. She could sense the sincerity in Natalie's desire to learn and admired her determination. Of course, Natalie," Lillian replied, her voice encouraging. "I'd be happy to put you through. Let's advent with the basics first. Shall we? Natalie's face lit up with gratitude and excitement. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Jameson. I really appreciate this opportunity." Over the next three weeks, Lillian committed time each day to teaching Natalie the foundations of architecture. She painstakingly taught design ideas, demonstrated how to use drawing equipment, and walked her through the process of sketching and conceptualizing construction blueprints. Natalie demonstrated diligence as a student, actively absorbing information and asking smart questions. She was driven to learn not just for herself, but also to demonstrate that she could construct a great profession in spite of the obstacles she had encountered. Natalie's self-confidence developed over time. She started contributing ideas during their discussions and even began drafting her own designs under Lillian's guidance. One sunset, after a particularly productive day of learning, Lillian sat down with Natalie over dinner. "You're doing really well, Natalie," she said warmly. "I see you have a natural talent for this." Natalie smiled with satisfaction, feeling a sense of accomplishment she hadn't had in a long time. I appreciate your faith in me, Mrs. Jameson. I never imagined that I could pick up so much knowledge so quickly. " Lillian laughed a low laugh. "Natalie, you are the one putting forth the most effort. All I'm doing is leading the path for you. As long as you keep moving forward, you'll succeed. Natalie nodded, determined more than ever to make a future for herself in architecture. With Lillian's support and mentorship, she felt like she had finally found her path forward. Two months since Natalie moved into Lillian's house in the blink of an eye. During this time, Natalie had shown herself to be an excellent visitor, exhibiting traits that made Lillian like her: composure, obedience, intelligence, and knowledge. Natalie approached Lillian one evening with a startling request. "Mrs. Jameson, I will be the one to prepare our dinner today," she announced. With a laugh, Lillian lifted an eyebrow. How come cooking has become so popular? She teasingly said, "Remember that we have a maid for that." Natalie grinned subtly. "I just want to show my appreciation, like a child to a mother," she stated. Touched by Natalie's gesture, Lillian agreed, and Natalie happily went to the kitchen. However, when in the kitchen cooking, she became disoriented and fainted. Lillian was anxious and asked her workers to assist carry her to the car and get her to the hospital. She drove quickly, panicked and hoping nothing serious had happened to Natalie. At the hospital, the doctors quickly attended to Natalie. After a tense wait, the doctor emerged and Lillian anxiously asked about Natalie's condition. "Mrs. Jameson, don't panic," Dr. Hayes comforted her. "There's no cause for terror. Natalie is just 8 weeks pregnant." "Pregnant?" Lillian repeated in surprise. "Thank you, doctor. Can I go see her now?" Of course, just make sure she remains relaxed and stress-free," Dr. Hayes replied. Lillian hurried to Natalie's ward. Weakly, Natalie asked her what had happened. Lillian gently explained, "You're pregnant, Natalie. There's a little you inside you now." Natalie was startled and in tears. She was shocked to learn she was expecting, especially considering the situation—a one-night affair with an unknown man. She wailed, afraid that this child would wreck her future plans. Lillian embraced Natalie close and consoled her. "No worries, Natalie—it's not the end of the globe. Your ability to achieve your goals is not diminished by becoming pregnant. Think consider this child as a gift from God. "I promise to always be there for you." Natalie steadily regained her composure, helped along by Lillian. It comforted her to know that she had someone by her side who would always support her, even though she was still feeling confused about the future. Natalie was feeling conflicted but thankful for the love and support she had received as she and Lillian went home after Natalie was released from the hospital.
