Heading home
It’s the year 7953.
I’m rushing through the orphanage, always rushing trying to get my chores ready and over, so I can prepare each meal on time, the headmistress is a useless t**t leaving everything up to me a 15 year old girl to complete for her. It’s been like this way since my arrival 10 years ago actually. So I wouldn’t know anything different than what I have grown accustomed with. I had a friend who would always be doing everything with me but she found her mate last year when she shifted at 14. I’m not upset that she’s happy with him he’s a good person. They’re expecting their second baby any day now actually.
Today the newly appointed Vampire King Hector, arrives to inspect everything in this kingdom. Vampires oversee lycanthropes and werewolves. That much I remember my mum teaching me before her death outside of this packs land.
“Hurry up Claire.” I hear being screamed at me by the headmistress from downstairs. So I finish up the room on tidying it up before rushing out and downstairs. “Everything done girl?” She snarls. “Yes miss.” I murmur.
She walks away from me to go inspect my work, it’s not like she has ever done any of the cleaning herself however honestly. When we hear several car’s pulling up out front. I dart to the windowsill to look outside. As she darts out and downstairs to go outside to greet whomever is coming in the cars.
“My lord, we wasn’t expecting you so early.” She tells the man who had stepped out of the car parked parallel with our front walkway gate. “Obviously” he sneers, as he peers up at the house, catching my eyes before I back away from the window out of sight but still within hearing. “Who’s the young girl on the second floor?” I hear him asking just then.
My heart rate picks up in panic ‘oh no no no.’ I start thinking. “Oh just one of my new helpers, please pay her no attention my lordship.” I hear her say in response.
That must mean I’ll be stuck here forever she’s counting on after today. Maybe they think I’m a human? But what does it account for my bloodlust I’ve always had and barely controlled since coming here. I remember my mum always saying I must control my need for blood and that I must always find a way to get blood. I never understood her words before being so young until I came here a lycanthrope / werewolf pack and they never gave me any blood. I bet they would hope that I would die from the lack of blood but I’m stronger and more resilient plus resourceful than they gave me credit for.
Just then every door opens on the cars 6 men step out of 3 cars. With a God looking man stepping out of the limo in the middle. He too looks up at the moment I’m peeking out again. I dart back and dart out of the room to hurry downstairs now. He might be able to save me hopefully, I’m thinking as I’m rushing downstairs. Just as I reach the bottom and start rushing to the door I am crashing into a man who grips me by my waist to steady me. “Easy now” as sparks go shooting outward from my waist where he’s gripping me. I gasp from them. And he squeezes my waist before pushing me behind his back with a grumbling growl “Mine.” I placed my hand on his lower back and echoing his words that seemed to sooth him but I don’t understand why. Until he turned his head and asks me “Age?” “As of today 15 sire.” “Your a babe yet” he replies. “Your coming home with me.” “Yes sire.”
He sighs, quit calling me sire, girl. “What’s your name?” “Claire, sire, sire I must call you that for your the king. And I’m a nobody.”
He just sighed at this and pinched the bridge of his nose with his frustration that I’m feeling so hard right now. Wait I’m feeling his emotions? That’s a new one for me.
“Claire quiet down, I won’t hurt you but you will be coming back with me to my home.” I heard as he is pulling me out of the building I called home for the past 10 years to thrust me into the limo with him. Curtis, see to the business I had with the headmistress while I deal with this one.” He murmurs out. “Yes hector.”
Then he turned in his seat to look at me, “Now, my sweet Claire, while we wait for Curtis. Tell me how long you was here and why you were here.” “Sire, I was here for 10 years ever since my mum was murdered for accidentally crossing the alphas border while hunting a doe for blood. She didn’t mean to cross the border. And then they discovered me upon her death by her screaming don’t run, you must stay hidden, to me. It took them until night had fallen to find me. I don’t know how they found me though.” When I hear a intake of breath, did they ever give you blood during these 10 years?” I shake my head. “Words Claire.” “No Sire. I hunted rabbits at night while everyone was asleep, drinking only what I needed each night, leaving them dizzy but alive when I was done, sir what am I? Everyone else shifted at 14 but I never did and I’m 15 now and I always get this blood lust?” He looks shocked but nods his head at something I don’t know of. “Your like me Claire, a vampire.”
Just then the cars started rolling down the street moving through and away from the sleepy village. I plaster my face to the window in excitement of finally leaving this hellhole of a place when I feel fingers on my shoulder tapping it, so I glance back at him grinning wildly in my excitement. “Come sit down on a seat and buckle up. You can still look out the windows despite being buckled in a seat. And I’ll explain how the wolves found you after nightfall so easily.” I frowned at this but complied to do so.
“Vampires, our eyes glow at night if we’re in the pitch black darkness, especially if we’re young. It’s only after we mature on our 16th birthday that our eyes stop being this way. Speaking of which, when do you turn 16?” He says. “December 23rd my lord.” He frowns, “Next week is your 16th birthday, I wonder if that was why we felt those sparks as mates only do when fully mature, your coming of age.” It took us almost a full day of riding to reach his home. After this conversation we both fell into a comfortable sleep.
