I told myself that I’d forgive this guy who repeatedly proved his genuine kindness. I really tried and thought I’d succeeded. But as I thought about everything my mother went through all this time. Especially after what I just learned, I couldn’t stop my anger from rising again. Robert might not be directly responsible for all my mother’s miseries, but she wouldn’t have gone through all this if it wasn’t for him.
His expression was perplexed as he stared back at me. “What are you talking about? I never abandoned her!”
I shook my head in incomprehension. “Then you’re saying she was lying?”
“She told you that I abandoned her?”
“No…” I said gloomily. “She never once spoke to me. I read about it all in her diary. There's no way she was lying."
