Sarah has always known her place. A palace servant with no name beyond the one she was given, no family beyond the walls that raised her, and no future beyond service to a crown that does not see her.

But everything begins to change the moment she steps into a room she was never meant to enter.

Behind locked doors opened only once a year lies a truth buried deep within the kingdom’s history, a story of betrayal, bloodshed, and a throne stolen in the dark.

As Sarah is drawn closer to the palace’s silent custodian and his son, Adrian, secrets begin to unfold. The king’s attention shifts toward her in ways that unsettle the fragile balance of the palace, drawing the wrath of the queen and the hatred of Princess Isabella, who sees her as nothing more than a threat that must be removed.

Only Princess Lilia watches her differently, as if she senses something no one else does.

But the deeper Sarah goes, the more dangerous the truth becomes.

Because the blood that was erased from history was never truly gone.

And when the past finally rises, the kingdom will have to face a question it has long buried,

Chapter 1 ******************* The palace had a way of making silence feel alive. Sarah noticed it the moment she stepped into the corridor. Not the peaceful kind of silence, the kind that felt like it was watching. Her footsteps softened instinctively against the polished marble as she moved forward, a jar held carefully in both hands. Light poured through tall windows in controlled strips, falling across the floor like something arranged on purpose. Everything here looked beautiful. Nothing here felt safe. She lowered her gaze slightly, tightening her grip on the jar. “Just deliver it, just don’t make a mistake”. That thought had been repeating in her mind since it was placed in her hands. The head maid’s voice still echoed in her head. “Don’t drop it, Sarah.” It wasn’t advice. It was a warning. She turned the corner carefully and fell. The impact came too suddenly and her balance broke instantly. The jar slipped. For a fraction of a second, her fingers reached for it but gravity won. The sound of glass hitting marble shattered the corridor. It was sharp, loud and final. Sarah froze. Then slowly dropped to her knees. “No-” she whispered. Her hands moved before her thoughts caught up, gathering broken pieces carefully as if she could undo what had already happened. The silence around her deepened. Then a voice cut through it. “Oh wow… you broke it”. It was cold and controlled. Sarah stopped. Slowly, she lifted her head and saw Princess Isabella standing a few steps away. She had the perfect posture, calm face, eyes that didn’t match either. Like she had been waiting for this moment. “You actually broke it,” Princess Isabella repeated softly. “That was faster than expected.” Sarah swallowed. “Your Highness, I didn’t-” “I didn’t ask for an explanation,” Princess Isabella interrupted. Sarah’s hands tightened slightly on the floor. “I tripped,” she said carefully. “Something was in my way-” “Careful there,”Princess Isabella said, stepping closer. “That sounds like blame.” “I’m not blaming anyone,” Sarah replied quickly. “I’m saying what happened.” Princess Isabella studied her for a moment. Then smiled faintly but it didn’t reach her eyes. “How unfortunate.” Sarah lowered her gaze again, continuing to gather the shards. Her fingers trembled slightly now. Footsteps echoed in the corridor — heavier and stronger. The atmosphere shifted immediately. Even Princess Isabella straightened herself properly. Sarah felt it before she saw it. Someone important had arrived. The Queen. Queen Eleanor stepped into view, her presence immediately changing the air in the corridor. Her gaze moved slowly—from the broken glass, to Sarah kneeling, to Isabella standing nearby. For a moment, she said nothing. Then her eyes sharpened. “What happened here?” Sarah straightened slightly. “I tripped, Your Majesty,” she said quickly. “The jar fell. It was an accident.” The Queen studied her for a moment, the silence becoming overwhelming. “Oh, you tripped,” she repeated with sarcasm in her tone. “Yes, Your Majesty”, Sarah replied while glancing towards princess Isabella “And why,” the Queen asked slowly, “are you speaking and looking at my daughter?” Sarah blinked. “I wasn’t—”, Sarah tried to explain, but the Queen cuts in. “Answer properly.” Sarah swallowed deeply. “I was explaining what happened.” The Queen’s expression didn’t change. “Pick it up”, she said with a commanding tone. Sarah nodded immediately and replied, “Yes, Your Majesty.” “All of it…” “and Sarah…”,The queen lowered her voice. Sarah paused and stared at her, shaken, “If you fail, I will replace you.” The words landed without emotion but heavily. Sarah didn’t respond. She simply bent down again and continued gathering the glass. One small shard cut into her finger but she didn’t react. Behind her, Isabella spoke softly. “This is what happens when people are placed where they don’t belong.” Sarah kept her head down. She didn’t answer. Then—footsteps again. The atmosphere shifted a second time. This time, the silence changed completely. The King had arrived. King Charles stood at the end of the corridor. Still and watching. His gaze moved across everything slowly. The broken glass, the Queen, Princess Isabella and finally— Sarah. “Stand,” he Commanded. Sarah obeyed immediately. She rose quickly, wiping her hands against her dress without thinking. The Queen stepped forward. “She broke palace property,” she began. “She should be—” “I saw what happened,” the King said calmly, cutting her in the process. That stopped her immediately. Silence fell again. He stepped forward slowly. One step, then another. Sarah felt her heartbeat tighten. Then he spoke again. “She will not be punished.” The Queen’s eyes sharpened. “Your Majesty—” “No.” The King cut in. One word and it was final. Then, after a pause, he said, “She will be reassigned.” Sarah blinked slightly. Reassigned? Her stomach tightened. “To the Lower East Wing.” The words settled into the air like something irreversible. And for the first time, Sarah noticed something in the atmosphere shift. Not fear exactly but something closer to warning. Because everyone understood the same thing. The Lower East Wing was not a normal assignment. It was a place people went when the palace wanted them forgotten. Sarah stood still and for the first time since en tering the palace, she felt something she couldn’t explain. Not confusion, not fear —something heavier. Like her life had just changed direction and she hadn’t been given a choice.
