Welcome to L.A
Brandy has never been one to stare.
It's because she's really bad at it, anytime she tries, she gets caught.
Further proving her point, the boy who's just walked in has caught her staring.
A smile spreads on his face and Brandy's heart is definitely not beating anymore. Her eyelashes flutter a bit as she breaks the eye contact in favour of staring at him some more. She takes in the fullness of his lips, and the sharpness of his jaw. She flushes at the height of his stance, and the broadness of his shoulders. She's gonna pass away.
"Class, if I could have your attention! We have a new student joining us, go ahead and introduce yourself."
"Um, hey. My name's Bobby McKenzie, and I'm from Scotland." He smiles. Brandy almost starts crying because he sounds and looks just like Glasgow, just like home.
"Welcome, Bobby. Go ahead and find a seat." Mr T smiles, sitting back down at his desk to continue typing.
Bobby makes his way over to Brandy immediately and takes the seat directly in front of her because the desks are grouped into fours, and she sits at a little island alone.
“Hi, I'm Bobby." He greets, sticking a very big, lovely hand out to shake hers. She stares at it for a moment before taking it in hers and shaking it firmly, noting how soft it is, as well as how gently he handles her own hand.
"So I've heard. I'm Brandy." She smiles, watching his eyes light up at her accent.
"Glasgow?"
"Born and raised... for the most part anyway." She shrugs with a nod.
"What are the odds, though? Kids from the same spot all the way 'cross the fuckin' ocean. Hell, we probably went to the same schools." He chuckles, watching Brandy blush and shake her head.
"Actually no. This is my first time being in a public school. I was homeschooled before I moved here." She mumbles shyly. He raises his eyebrows a bit and hums.
"Well, what will I need to catch up on?"
"Nothing. The curriculum over there is way more advanced, so we're ahead of this already." Brandy informs him with a smile, "nothing to worry about."
"Wicked." Bobby chuckles, nodding his head a little.
Brandy snickers, before turning her attention back to the front of the room. Bobby keeps staring though because as soon as he'd walked into the room he couldn't stop glancing at her, as she stared right back at him. So, he keeps his eyes trained on her as she stares intently at whatever Mr T's writing on the board. He takes in the gentle upturn to her nose, the freckles that dust her cheeks.
She must sense him looking because she turns her head to meet his eyes, her cheeks turning a pretty shade of pink. Her lashes, long enough to cast shadows on her high cheek bones, flutter bashfully, bluring the clear honey gold of her eyes.
He's interrupted though, by the girl that sits in the group of desks beside them.
"I'm Gwyneth!" She chirps with a smile. Brandy prepares to say goodbye to him, but then takes in the face that he's making and smiles to herself.
"Pleasure." Bobby mumbles, nodding slowly.
"You're from Ireland?"
"Scotland."
"Oh, well Brandy is from there too. But her accent isn't nearly as cute as yours." Gwyneth titters. Bobby blinks at her and shakes his head.
"Our accent is the same.. we're from the same place." Bobby explains slowly. Gwyneth blushes and Bobby turns his attention back to Brandy.
"Anyway. I don't like to beat around the bush, Petal, so I'm going to come right out with it. Would you like to grab a bite after school with me?"
Brandy blushes immediately.

"I um.. yeah, yes I would love to." She mumbles, shaking her head in surprise with a little giggle.
"Since I've been here, I've definitely fallen a bit in love with Pho, are you familiar yet?" He asks with a warm smile. Brandy has to let herself melt a little before she nods, ducking her head to escape his gaze and catch her breath.
"yeah, it's my favourite actually." She sighs, smiling back at him gently. They lock eyes for a moment, just gazing before Bobby clears his throat, his own cheeks blushing slightly, to Brandy's delight.
"Pho it is."
The two of them have the rest of the day to spend together after that. They walk from class to class together, they sit down at lunch together and talk about how they grew up and the things they like now. Brandy learns that it's just Bobby and his mom that moved, because his parents split up. Bobby learns that it's just Brandy and her dad here, because her mom passed away just this last year. Brandy learned that Bobbys father is Jamaican. Bobby learns that Brandy's dad is African, born and raised until he moved to Scotland for work and met her mother. They learn that they both really love Paolo Nutini.
"Are you really Scottish if you don't like Paolo?" Brandy giggles, munching on the end of a carrot stick.
"No. I don't think you can. What's your favourite song of his?" He asks, crossing his arms on the table. Brandy watches them for a moment before she answers.
"No Other Way.. or New Shoes.. or Candy.. or Iron Sky! Oh that's so good." She gushes, finishing the rest of her lunch and watching as Bobby does the same.
"Me tooo!" Bobby squeals playfully, clapping his hands.
"Oh, you're a dork." Brandy says, shaking her head with a fond smile.
"What of it?"
"Don't worry about it."

When school finally ends, Brandy and Bobby walk out the doors together, shoulder to shoulder as they continue their chatter.
"Where'd you park?" Bobby asks, looking down at Brandy. He, for the first time, gets to take in her outfit. He takes in the cropped blue button down, and the high waisted jeans. They make her waist look so tiny, and he notices just a bit of the ink that seems to disappear under her waistband and up beneath her shirt. He guesses it’s a dragon.
"Just there, cmon." She smiles, leading the way to her car which is-
"You're f*****g joking." Bobby starts laughing, out of shock and endearment, "that's your car? What even year is this thing?"
"1959." She smiles proudly, standing aside as he ogles her Cadillac.
"It's pink."
"Yes. Her name is Petunia." Brandy smiles.
"You're crazy." Bobby cackles as he gets in.
"Welcome to LA, Bobby." Brandy giggles, starting the car up and pulling out of the lot.
