I was running through the woods and something was chasing me. I didn't know what it was. I ran as fast as I could, but it was getting closer. Just as I was about to hit the road, something hit me, and I hit the ground hard. That's when I woke up and jumped out of bed. Sweat was running down my face. It was just a nightmare. I looked at my clock it was 5:54am. I had to get up at 6 am anyway. so I turned off my alarm and went to shower before getting ready for school. As I showered, I thought about my nightmare, which did not make sense, but I just pushed it to the back of my mind and finished getting ready. When I was done, I dressed and went downstairs. Mom was cooking breakfast. Mom is the best mom ever. She is like my best friend. I can tell her anything and I know she will not tell anyone.
My mother is Rebecca Jenkins, but everyone calls her Becky for short. She is a little taller than me with long brown hair and hazel eyes. She is the best warrior in our pack and has helped train my sister and me since we were young.
“Good morning, mom”, I said as I entered the kitchen.
“Morning honey, how did you sleep?” she asked.
“Not too well. I had this weird nightmare”. I told her all about my nightmare.
“You must be overthinking about getting your wolf, sweetie. It will be ok, promise ”, she told me and handed me a plate of food.
“Yeah, I guess so.” I said as I pushed my food around my plate.
Just then, my sister Yogi comes running down the stairs and starts yelling something about being late. My sister is two years older than me and has curly brown hair and hazel eyes like Mom, but she is smaller than me, and she has not found her mate yet. She is also a warrior in our pack and is in charge of training the younger pups. She entered the kitchen, grabbed a juice and toast, and ran out the door. Mom and I started to laugh.
Dad walked in and kissed Mom as I sat there eating my breakfast.
“How was patrol last night, babe? '' Mom asked dad as he grabbed breakfast and sat next to me at the bar. “It was OK, we found a rogue on the north side and had to question him, but that’s about all.”
“What happens to them when you're done questioning them?” I asked as I ate my bacon.
“ Well, it depends; they either get handed over to the elders if they have done something wrong, or we give them a chance to join our pack if we can use them. If not they go on their way.” dad said as he drank his coffee.
“Don't you worry they will return and try to hurt someone?” I asked.
“ No, we have great warriors,” dad said as he smiled at mom. You could see the love in their eyes every time they looked at each other. They would do anything to protect each other and us kids. That's how the mate bond works, plus you can't help but fall madly in love with your mate.
My father's name is Richard Jenkins. He is the pack’s beta, and his best friend is Alpha Mike Whitlock. They grew up together and have been best friends for as long as I can remember. Uncle Mike has been there since the day I was born. He has one son, Blaze. He is 19 and still has not found his mate yet. When he finds his mate, he will take over as Alpha.
I turn 18 this year and I get my wolf, and I can't wait to meet her. Plus, I am a senior, so I will be done with school soon. So to say I am excited is an understatement. I also get to start looking for my mate. A mate is your soulmate, your best friend, your other half, the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. After you find your mate, you have a strong urge to complete the mate bond. For some it may take a while, but for others it's too strong to resist. When you complete the mate bond it is sealed with a mark on your neck, a bite mark that will turn into a tattoo.
As I ate I looked at my clock and saw that I was late. I grabbed my toast, kissed mom and dad, and then headed to school. As I ran to school, l saw Blaze jumping in his car. He is always late for school. Then I heard him yell, “Hey Maggie, need a ride?’ “Yes, that would be great,” I cried and headed to him. As we rode to school, we talked and laughed about how all the other she-wolfs were throwing themselves at him, but he didn't want any of them. He was saving himself for his mate, or so he said.
