Jerald watched Garrett leave his sight with the orders he had given him.
He takes a deep breath and stares at his nails.
"They drive me crazy" he sighed
"The Moon Goddess knows this herself?" He laughs again
"Too bad, she doesn't" He said to himself wiping off a stray tear
"I am sorry to interrupt my Alpha, but breakfast is ready" He hears a maid say.
He raised his head and watched her stand at the entrance with her head bowed.
He listens and hears her heartbeat accelerate with each second
"You may leave" He finally says to her.
Bowing her head deeper, she leaves.
He takes a deep breath and leaves the throne room and heads to the dining section.
A table so large it could fit about a hundred people.
He ate at the far end and watched the maids dish the meal.
"Some tea, sir?" A maid ask
"Yes"
She opens the jar of sugar and the smell hits him.
"Close it!"
He orders quickly
He was losing his mind.
She quickly shuts it close with shaky hands.
"Take it away, now!"
"Y..yes Al..Alpha"
He takes a bite of the meat without even cutting it.
Rebekah.
"Damn this mate bond!" He exclaims
He could still perceive her scent without even being close to the elements.
This was driving him crazy!
He had tried to ignore it all night, and now day?
"Why does she have to be an Omega.
Maybe a Beta?"
"Damn it!"
He rises from the chair angrily and it falls behind him.
"Sir…"
"I just lost my appetite, '' he said and left the dining area.
……….
It's towards evening and he gets dressed to have dinner with Alpha Ravens of Ardent Moon Pack.
He hears the three knocks on the door that announces his Beta.
"Good Evening Alpha" Garrett greets, but Jerald isn't even in the mood to pay any attention.
He slowly buttons up his shirt and straightens his sleeves.
"I followed Patrick as ordered, but lost sight of him in the crowd"
Jerald heard him report.
"Lost sight of him!?" He asked, turning to face Garrett.
"What do you mean 'Lost sight of him'? Is he perhaps so little you couldn't spot him or did he turn into a creature and flew away?" Jerald asked, getting all worked up.
"I apologize Alpha. I had followed him to the market of Becker Hills where I had lost sight of him"
Becker Hills?
"Details" The Alpha demanded
"He had gone in the same carriage as Dallas to Becker Hills, before stopping by a shop to get a drink.
I had overheard them speaking about your rule and decisions of the pack. They feel you are…you are unfit for the position of Alpha. After which they parted ways and Sir Patrick went into the market. He had met with Miss Rebekah and said a few words to her, which had made her ...."
"He did what!?" Jerald asked
His blood boiled.
"Patrick dare challenge my rule and met with my…" he spoke between gritted teeth in low whispers
"Sir, he had met with Miss Smiths in the market and…"
"I heard you the first time. What happened next?"
"He said something to her which had made her flee in fear.
After which I tried to follow him but he disappeared into the crowd. In order not to get caught, I returned to the castle."
"Patrick seems to be pulling strings he can't hold on to. I want you to watch him for a few days more, I need a solid reason to make him sleep in my dungeon. Perhaps, a better reason to rip his head off his body and bury them in two separate places" Jerald said smiling to himself
"Yes Alpha"
"Make sure you don't lose him next time or you will take his place"
"Understood!"
They hear a knock and the doors are pushed open
"I am sorry to interrupt Alpha, but the Alpha of Ardent Moon Pack is here with his daughter." they hear the guard announce
Jerald waves his hand to send him off.
He turns back to his Beta
"Have you rested? Take a short rest and join us at the table" he says to him and leaves.
…….
Alpha Jerald walked down the grand flight of stairs and into the parlour room where he was told his guests were seated.
"Alpha Ravens, welcome" He says as soon as he got close to him
"Miss Daniella" she stretched her hand forward and Jerald takes it.
He was very irritated by their visit, but rejecting an Alpha's request to visit could mean a million and one things, which Jerald wasn't ready for.
"Looking elegant as always. What did I do to get such a pleasant visit from you both?" He asked, sarcasm laced in his voice.
"Alpha Avalon, congratulations on your ball. I am sorry I couldn't make it as I had work piled up. My daughter here on the other hand did and was told you had retired, and so early"?
"Now he wants to know about my whereabouts and reasons?" Jerald thought
"Yes, please do take a seat." He gestured
"I had a bad incident last night, so I retired early. It's nothing to worry about." He said with a smile.
"Having missed your ball, I thought I come have dinner with you to make up for the time."
You thought wrong.
"Of course, please, you are always welcome."
"Although, I do have something important to discuss, it's about my daughter Daniella"
"The table is set, sir" A maid reported.
"Let's discuss over dinner then" Jerald stood and led the way.
……..
"I was wondering when the final engagement to my daughter would be announced" Jerald heard him say.
He squeezed the fork and knife he held in his hands.
If the beef was still breathing, he would have killed it for the second time.
"The final rites. I hear your people talking about a woman you had danced with last night. In other to die this unsettling rumor down, you need to let them know it was a mistake and Infact you are engaged to a Luna"
"Since when did people care about my affairs?" Jerald wondered
Garrett walked in and took a seat at the other end of the table.
Jerald turned towards Daniella who seemed a bit flustered.
He laughed internally.
"Hasn't this been her plan all along?
Perhaps bringing daddy to finalise the engagement would bring me to my knees?" He thought
He had only agreed to the engagement and possibly marriage for gains.
Ardent Pack is one of the richest Pack there is.
High in diamonds? Anyone would love to grab the opportunity to be closer to them for the pure purpose of benefits and more wealth.
But he couldn't take it anymore.
"Daniella" he called out to her
"Haven't you met your mate yet?" He asked her and one could see the fear flash in her eyes.
"Tell me, let's say we get married and you meet your mate, what happens next?" He asked again.
"My Lord… I… I… I will…"
"You will what?" He tilted his head to the side to watch her better. He felt truly amused by her reaction.
"I will re…reject him" And he burst out laughing
"Why? And if he is an Alpha?" He asked with a smirk
"Will you abandon me for him? After all, your dream is to marry an Alpha. There's no way you can deny that bond and choose someone you don't even love"
"No way! I would never do such a thing to you. I… I… I do love you. I mean it!" He heard her say and he chuckled.
He turned back to her daddy who seemed lost.
"I apologize Alpha Ravens, but I will have to cancel the engagement, I can't take any risk.
She might reject me one day and you know what that can do to my rule as Alpha."
Jerald said to him.
The perfect excuse!
Soon he hears the thunder and it starts to drizzle.
" Tell me Alpha Avalon, have you met your mate?" Jerald heard him ask and the scent hit him.
