They left the Alpha's chambers and walked into the throne room where the high members were seated.
Garrett watched the Alpha take his seat coldly and cleared his throat.
He stood beside Jerald and watched everyone carefully.
"We would like to congratulate you on your twentieth birthday ball" The man called Simon spoke.
"Yes, the invitations were shocking as you had invited even the commoners. But what was more shocking was that you even danced with one. The rumors are spreading Alpha." Sir Patrick spoke next.
The Alpha pressed his temples hard as his head was bent.
Perhaps Garrett should be blamed as he had taken the opportunity when the Alpha wasn't listening and asked him for the permission to invite the commoners.
He had agreed without a second thought as he was pretty much occupied then.
"I hear her name is Rebekah, the daughter of the Smiths, a wood collector.
She must have dressed nicely to hide her identity in that case, but I don't believe it was enough to fool the Alpha himself. Right?" Asked Theodore one of the youngest members
"The same Rebekah who sells vegetables and fruits on the streets? Alpha, she couldn't have been the one, right?" Simon spoke again.
By this time, the Alpha seemed to be losing it as he clenched his jaws and hands.
Garrett took a deep breath, and was about to speak before Sir Patrick spoke again
" An Alpha is to be paired with a Luna, even the Goddess knows this herself.
Alpha Jerald, you will not bring shame to us and this pack. If there's a liking you have towards Miss Smiths I advise you cut…."
"ENOUGH!"
The Alpha ordered.
Sir Patrick is the oldest one of all the members, he tends to use his age to his advantage sometimes.
"Have you all gone mad!? Patrick… How dare you speak to me in such disrespect, you might be older, but I am your Alpha.
All of you!
I choose and decide whoever I am pleased to dance with, or spend the night with, or even mate with.
Non of you shall have a say in my affairs, now get out!"
" Alpha we… "
" I demand that you all leave my presence this minute!"
The members each stood, one after the other, whispering among themselves as they left.
" Alpha, I will like to apologize. Had I known such a decision would escalate, I wouldn't have sent those invitations." Garrett his Beta said, bowing his head
" It's happened." Jerald said coldly.
Raising his hands, one could see his claws retract.
Then he started to laugh which really confused Garrett.
" Even the Moon Goddess knows this herself? What would they do when they find out she's actually my mate?
I had only danced with her and they called for a meeting" He laughed again.
"I want you to keep an eye on Patrick, he is like fire. Hot to keep you warm at night, but also hot enough to burn down your house.
Report to me every single details of today."
"Yes Alpha" Garrett said and quickly left the throne room in search of Patrick.
He traced Patrick and caught up just in time as he was about getting into his carriage with another member called Dallas.
He could hear whispers about the Alpha and his lousy decisions and how it could destroy the pack.
He might not be wrong, as Alphas are meant to be mated to a maiden with the Alpha's blood running in her veins to strengthen their offsprings.
The stronger the offspring, the stronger the pack.
Garrett called one of the guards to also get him a carriage.
He had requested for the servant's carriage in order not to expose his intentions if the members perhaps noticed it.
Taking a royal carriage could be risky.
Garrett follows them down and into one of the villages which is far from where they live.
"What could he be planning?" Garrett asked himself, as he alighted from the carriage and adjusted his hat to shield him from the sun and cover most of his face.
He follows them into a shop as they chat for a while.
Patrick suddenly parts ways with Dallas and walks down the market streets.
And Garrett watches him stand and stare at something…or someone?
He follows his gaze and sees a young lady seated, with a heap of veggies and fruits in front of her.
Long brown hair and eyes.
She wore a simple yellow gown.
He watched her wipe the sweat off her forehead from the heat of the sun.
She looks familiar but…
"Rebekah?" Garrett whispers
She looked less fancy from last night.
He wouldn't tell from the way she's dressed, her hair loose and no makeup on.
Not that she needed any by the way.
He traces Patrick's gaze again and he looks intently on her.
"What do you want?" Garrett questions himself again.
Suddenly Patrick walks towards her and speaks to her.
She's shocked by whatever he must have said to her and he walks away.
Garrett clenches his fist and follows him when suddenly someone bumps into him from the side.
He sees some veggies fall to the side and quickly realises who it was.
"I am so sorry sir" He heard her speak as she quickly picked up the veggies that fell and ran towards the same direction he was headed, completely avoiding his eyes.
He stares at her back for a while and continues moving, in order not to miss Patrick.
He came to a cross road and watched Rebekah take the left and Patrick take the right.
Something in him pushes him to follow Rebekah instead.
Disobeying the Alpha might cost him.
Still, he takes the left.
……..
He watched her run with fear.
"What must have that wolf Patrick said to her?" he wondered in concern.
He follows her out of the market streets and into the village streets.
She stops by a black gate and quickly pushes it open.
He stops by the gate for a while and tries to listen.
"This must be her house" he thought.
Taking a deep breath, he adjusts his hat and turns around to leave.
He heads back to the cross road and takes the right, hoping to catch sight of Patrick, but he doesn't, he must have gone far.
So he heads back to the castle.
