CHAPTER 1

"Mother, mother, mother!" Rebekah screamed on top of her voice. She couldn't explain how excited she was as she ran into the house with the veggies she was meant to sell. Happily waving a white envelope in the air as she ran through the dining area into the kitchen. " Mother look!" Rebekah exclaims the moment she sees her mother. Dropping the basket of veggies she held in her hands to the floor, she quickly rushed to her mother's side and opened the already torn envelope. She had of course read it before rushing in like a mad girl her mother must think she is now already. "It's from the palace mother!" she said again as her mother wiped her hands with a napkin and took the letter Rebekah held. "The palace?" her mother asked Rebekah could sense the fear in her mother's voice. Omegas, what would they be doing in the palace other than slavery or punishments? "No mother, we've been invited to the Alpha's ball. Read mother, read!" At this point, Rebekah was jumping. Her heart had no boundaries to the extent to which it could beat. She wished she could bring it out of her chest and watch it dance with her. "The ball?" asked her mother again. "Yes! Can you believe it!?" This time Rebekah shouted. "Rebekah…" she heard her mother call as she continued to jitter. Rebekah's mother was still reading the letter. By now, she had read it more than ten times. Perhaps she couldn't believe it as much as Rebekah did. IT READ… Dear Mister Smith It is with great pleasure that we invite you and your household to the Alpha's ball celebration, which takes place by the next full moon, in the castle. Please, do well to attend. "Rebekah, is this real? Did you forge this?" Her mother asked, very sceptical of what she was reading. "Why mother, why would you say something like that? I wouldn't do such a thing. Well, even if I had forged this, I couldn't possibly forge the royal stamp." She said the last statement more to herself, like a realization that she wasn't dreaming. "Imagine the dream mother, fancy clothes, fancy drinks, those things they call sweets but look like bread. It's a dream come true mother. I get to dance with beautiful people mother, maybe even royalty!" Rebekah said, swaying around the kitchen floor. "Beautiful people that treat us like trash Bekah, have you forgotten we are Omegas? Once they perceive us, we will be thrown out of the castle like a piece of rag. This must be a mistake, they've got the wrong Smiths. We are not going and that's final!" Her mother said as she squeezed the piece of paper and threw it on the floor. " No mother!" Rebekah shouted and quickly picked the paper from the floor and dusted it up, trying to straighten the wrinkles with her cloth. " You can't do this to me mother, this is my last chance. No, this is my only chance to see the palace. This is no mistake, it was given to me personally by the royal guard, look, it has our home address on it. I beg of you! " Rebekah knelt on both knees " Valerie is an Omega too mother, and she was invited to the ball. Most people are going. The Alpha wouldn't have invited us all just to throw us out like a piece of rag. Mother please, reconsider!" Valerie is a close friend of Rebekah. They've known each other since they could speak. They've suffered the share of life together. " Valerie is going as well, she was invited?" Her mother asked " Yes mother, and who knows, I might just meet the one. Maybe a Gamma, and if I am very lucky, a Beta. We won't be treated like trash anymore. Please!" She begged her mother. Her plan was to eat and drink and maybe dance. She wanted to know what a castle was like. The gold paint and sculptures people talked about. Wanted to feel it under her palms, see them with her own eyes, smell them with her nose and…. "Wait! The one? My mate? What if he was there, like… Wh…What do I say or do or act? If he were to be a Gamma, the tables would truly change for us." Her thoughts went wild "Only the bravest dream of a Beta. It will be so…" "Fine!" Her mother's voice brought her back to reality. "What?" she asked, unsure of what her mother meant by 'Fine' " You can go, but your father and I will stay. But only if you go with Valerie." This was the moment she was meant to scream but… "Mother, you should come too, it will be fun. How can you miss out on an opportunity such as this one?" Rebekah asked, getting up from her knees that had already begun to hurt. She walked towards her mother and held her by the waist. "Please mother, it will be incomplete without you. My dream has you in it you know?" Rebekah said, smiling sadly. "Oh Bekah, your father and I have been to the palace before, way before you were even born. Going back there would only bring back unwanted memories. You have a fresh mind and a wild heart. If indeed the Alpha wants to celebrate his birthday with us commoners and has gone the far lengths of inviting people, then you should go. Have good memories in my stead." she said and a tear dropped from Rebekah's eye. She quickly hugged her mother and wiped the tear away behind her back. " I love you mother, you are the best, thank you" She kissed her mother's cheeks and drew back. "I love you too" once Rebekah heard the words she was waiting for, she left her mother's side and ran out of the kitchen and out of the house. "Where are you going!?" Her mother cried out. " To Mister Potter's shop, before the ball dresses are finished!" Rebekah screamed back. She heard her mother laugh before she crossed the gate. Mister Potter makes the best ball and dinner dresses. People from neighbouring towns come down here just to buy his clothes, even the royalties. His clothes are going to be very expensive, but he always makes an exception for Valerie and Rebekah. Before Rebekah headed to the shop, she went to Valerie's house first.
