The Secret Behind His Heart — Episode 1: The Stranger
Amara checked her phone for the third time as she stood beside the crowded bus stop. The evening traffic was terrible, and the sky had already begun to turn dark. She sighed and looked at her watch. “Another day wasted,” she whispered. Working as a young journalist in the city was not as exciting as she had imagined. Every day came with deadlines, difficult interviews, and stories that rarely turned out the way she expected. Still, Amara loved her job. She believed that every person had a story, and she wanted to be the one who discovered it. As she waited for her bus, she noticed a man standing a few metres away. He was dressed simply, but something about him immediately caught her attention. He wasn't talking to anyone. He wasn't looking at his phone. He simply stood there, staring at the road as if he was waiting for someone who might never come. Amara quickly looked away. “Don't be nosy,” she told herself. A few minutes later, the man walked toward her. “Excuse me,” he said. Amara looked up. “Yes?” “Does the number 14 bus still stop here?” She nodded. “Yes. But you might have to wait. Traffic is terrible today.” “Thank you.” He smiled briefly and turned away. There was something strange about his voice. Calm. Deep. Almost familiar. Amara watched him for a moment before forcing herself to look away again. Then she noticed something on the ground. A small black wallet. She picked it up and looked around. “Excuse me!” she called. The man had already disappeared into the crowd. Amara opened the wallet, hoping to find an identification card. There was only a driver's licence, a bank card, and a small photograph. She looked at the photograph. Her eyes widened. The man in the picture was the same man she had just spoken to. His name was Daniel Blackwood. But that wasn't what shocked her. On the back of the photograph, someone had written three words in red ink: DO NOT TRUST HIM. Amara stared at the message. For a moment, she wondered if it was some kind of joke. Then her phone rang. “Hello?” There was silence on the other end. “Hello? Who is this?” A man's voice finally answered. “You found his wallet.” Amara froze. “How do you know?” “Listen carefully,” the stranger said. “Whatever you do, don't give it back to him.” The call ended. Amara slowly lowered the phone from her ear. Across the road, a black car had stopped. The passenger window rolled down. Daniel was sitting inside. And he was looking directly at her. For the first time that evening, Amara felt afraid. Daniel stepped out of the car. “Amara,” he said. She stared at him. “How do you know my name?” Daniel's expression changed. “You need to come with me.” “Why?” He looked behind her, then back at her. “Because the person who called you is already here.” Amara turned around. Nobody was there. When she looked back, Daniel was standing much closer. And suddenly, she realized that returning his wallet might be the biggest mistake she had ever made.
