I groaned as my alarm went off at 8:00 a.m. I was not a morning person, but today was a big day. I needed to get up and get dressed so I could start making breakfast for my parents. I hopped out of bed, heading to the bathroom to pee and brush my teeth. I grab my phone and shoot Kita a quick text "Good morning, beautiful. I am heading down to make my parents breakfast and then tell them everything. I miss you *kissy face emoji*." I didn't wait for a response as I threw on some leggings and a t-shirt and head downstairs to start breakfast. Angela was in the kitchen already cooking for the rest of the packhouse. "Good Morning, Angie!" I smiled at her while I grabbed a few things from the fridge. "Good Morning Lena Bean! How are you this morning? What are you doing with all that stuff? I am already cooking." She has always called me Lena Bean from the time I could remember. She was the only one allowed to call me that, and everyone knew it. "I am great. I am going to make a little something extra for mom and dad. I need to have a serious talk with them, so what better way than to butter them up a bit."
Angie just laughed but let me continue my work. One of my favorite things to make is stuffed crêpes. I pull out my special crêpe pan. Thankfully, I made crêpe batter yesterday and did not have time to cook them, so I will use it today. I cut up my strawberries and bananas. Then I pulled out the brown sugar. I opened up the container of cool whip and one of those already made Philadelphia Cheesecake filling. I put some butter in my pan and turned the flame on low/medium. Crêpes are different than pancakes, and you really have to pay attention, and you can only cook one at a time. After the bottom of the pan was coated, I dropped four tablespoons into my pan and started slowly swirling it around to make sure the whole bottom of the pan was covered in batter. I let that cook for 3-4 minutes before flipping it and cooking the other side. Once it's done, I move the pan off the fire and put the crêpe on a plate. I put strawberries, brown sugar, and cheesecake in this one and rolled it up. I made three more like that since those are mine and my mom's favorites. Next, I make my dads, which I fill with strawberries, bananas, brown sugar, and cool whip.
I was just placing everything on the table when my parents came downstairs. They each say good morning to me and then notice the crêpes on the table. "Lena, you made us your famous crêpes, AND you made each of us our favorites! To what do we owe this little surprise?" I smiled at them. "I have something I want to talk to you both about, but I wanted us to have something special first. Since I couldn't make my crêpes yesterday, this worked out even better." They both eyed me suspiciously but sat down and started eating. Angie brought us orange juice and bacon to go with our crêpes.
Once we finished eating, we headed up to my dad's office. Dad sat in his chair while my mom and I sat in the two chairs in front of his desk. My hands were sweating and clammy. I was not as confident as I was cooking breakfast this morning. My dad was the first one to speak up. "So Lena, you said you needed to talk to us, so here we are. What is going on?" I looked down at my hands and fidgeted, rubbing my hands on my pants, trying to get the sweaty feeling to go away. "Lena, whatever it is, you can tell us," my mother said, grabbing my hand. I looked up at them and said, "Before I start, I just ask that you let me get everything out before you ask questions or say anything. This is difficult for me, and if I stop, I may not be able to finish." They both just shook their heads, acknowledging they would not interrupt me, so I took a deep breath and just let it all out.
"I've been trying to figure out how to tell you both for a while, but it never seemed like the right time. Every time I would start to bring it up, you guys would start talking about how you hoped I found an alpha male that was tall, dark, and handsome to be my mate that you guys couldn't WAIT for grandbabies. I knew I could give that to you, just not in a conventional way, and I didn't know how you guys would take it, or the pack for that matter. I met my mate at the party last night." My dad and mom both gasped, and dad started to say something, but mom held her hand up to stop him, which I was grateful for. "My mate is everything I could have ever hoped for, beautiful and tall but still elegant. My mate is also the current alpha of the Silverback Warriors Pack." I watched their faces as I named Kita's pack.
The realization hit my dad first; then, I watched as his mouth slowly turned into an "O" shape. Mom was about five seconds behind, and her mouth was just hanging open. My mother was the first to speak up. "OH goodness, Lena! I don't care what gender your mate is! I just always assumed it would be a man. I never knew you even liked girls. Regardless, I love you no matter what, and I always will. I am so happy that you finally found your mate! Richard isn't this wonderful! Our little ladybug has found her mate and an alpha!" Mom stared at dad for a few minutes waiting for him to say something, but he just stared at us. The silence was palpable. It was like time stood still, except I could hear the clock ticking on the wall *tick*, *tick*, *tick*. I couldn't tell by the look on his face what he was thinking, and neither could my mother, apparently because she was starting to scowl at him.
My mom looked like she was just about to say something else when dad got up from his desk and walked around to stand in front of me. My heart felt like it was beating so loud and hard that it was going to beat right out of my chest. We were both looking at him, not quite sure what he was going to do. After what felt like forever, he just shook his head with a disgusted look on his face and turned, and walked out of his office. My mom called after him, but he didn't even acknowledge that she had even spoken to him. Instead, he just slammed his door.
I started to sob. I was a daddy's girl. He always doted on me even when I didn't want it, and he just walked out as if I meant nothing to him. My mother looked like she was ready to spit nails and got up to chase after him. "Lena darling, I will talk to him. He will come around, and if he doesn't, well... let's just say he isn't going to like me very much. I love him, and he's my mate, but a mama will protect her kids until the end of time, and right now, he's not going to be dealing with his mate. What he's going to get is one pissed-off mama. Baby, why don't you head up to your room while I try to talk some sense into that bullheaded ass mate of mine."
I sniffled and just shook my head. She came over and pulled me into a hug "it's going to be ok, Lena. Everything will work itself out. I love you no matter what, ok baby?" I shook my head and headed up to my room. I locked my door and flopped onto my bed. I pulled my phone out and texted Kita, "Baby, are you busy? Can you talk?" It took a few minutes for her to respond, and my face fell when I read her response, "Hey, babycakes. I am in a meeting right now. It will probably be about an hour but no more than an hour and a half. Can I call you then? Are you ok?" I didn't want her to worry, so I just said: "I'm fine, but I told my parents this morning, and I wanted to tell you how it went." I watched as the three tiny bubbles popped up, letting me know she was typing, "Ok, baby, I will call you when I am done. I miss you XOXO *kissy face emoji*." I smiled. "I miss you too, love XOXO *heart emoji*."
Since I had some time to kill, I needed to talk to someone. My sister and best friend were who I needed right now since Kita was busy. I linked my sister Maren first. "Hey, Mare, where are you?" "Hey, Lee, I'm in the gym. What's up?" I didn't want to interrupt her, but I needed her. I didn't want her to hear what I had told our parents from anyone but me. She deserved to hear it from me. "Mare, I hate to interrupt you, but I need to talk to you. Do you think you could come to my room please?" "Lee, what's wrong? You sound off." "Mare, can you just come to my room please, and I will explain everything." "Ok, I am going to change and be there in like 10 minutes."
Now I needed to find my best friend. If anyone could help me navigate, telling my sister, it would be Iris since she was the only person who knew my secret until today. "Iris, where are you? I need you." "I'm helping my mom Lee, but I can tell her you need me. What's wrong?" I was trying not to cry again. "I told my parents" was all I said since I knew she would know what I was talking about. "It'll be ok. I love you. I'm on my way." She must have run to my room because I didn't even have time to get up and unlock it before she was knocking to get in. As soon as I opened the door, she engulfed me in a hug while I cried again.
We were standing in my doorway when my sister came up behind us. "Lee, what's wrong! Why are you crying??" She said as she pulled me from Iris and hugged me. I cried for another minute while I hugged my sister. Then I heard Iris say, "come on, let's go inside and talk." I walked over to the bed with my sister while Iris closed and locked my door. My sister looked at us. "Does someone want to explain what the hell is going on? Lee, why are you crying? Iris, you don't seem surprised she is crying, so you obviously know what's going on. So someone better start spilling so I know who's ass I need to kick for making my sister cry!" We all chuckled and little "I actually only know part of why. I have a feeling there is more that neither of us knows, so come on, Lee, spill." Iris said, looking at me as if telling me to spill it.
"Ok, guys, before I tell you, PLEASE let me finish everything before you bombard me with questions." They both shook their heads, so I took a deep breath, hoping I could make it through everything without crying. "Well, you both know that dad has been making me go to all the events in hopes of finding my mate." They both just shook their heads but didn't say anything and waited for me to continue. "Well, I met my mate last night at the party." They both started to squeal, but I stopped them so I could finish."Well, Iris, you already know my secret, and my mate is everything I thought they would be." Iris smiled so big, and Maren just looked confused, but before she could ask, I continued, "So because of that, you know I had to tell my parents. Which I decided to do today." Iris gave me a sympathetic look and grabbed my hand, and squeezed it. I looked over at Maren, who looked super annoyed but didn't say anything, so I grabbed her hand and said, "I had to tell our parents that my mate is a woman and I am a lesbian. I have known for a while, but finding my mate just confirmed it for me. Mom took it well, but dad looked at me like he was completely disgusted and walked out."
Maren looked stunned. She didn't let go of my hand, but she looked utterly shocked. Iris pulled me into a hug. "Ohh, I am so sorry your dad reacted that way. I can't believe he would treat you that way." I started to cry, and Maren pulled me from Iris and hugged me even tighter than Iris. "Lee, I don't care that you're a lesbian, I don't care that your mate is a woman, I don't care about any of that stuff. What I do care about is you. You are my sister, and daddy is an ass for treating you this way and making you cry." I looked at both Maren and Iris. "Thank you both for supporting me. It means more to me than you know. Hopefully, mom can talk some sense into him, but if not, it's his loss." They both sat with me a bit longer, but they eventually had to get going, so I hugged them both, climbed back onto my bed, and waited for Kita to finish her meeting so she could call me and tell her everything that happened today.
