After The Party

2627 Words
(Kita's POV)     I hated to leave Lena, but she needed to tell her parents, and unfortunately, that isn't something I can't do for her. It made me feel sad for her. My pack was very supportive when I came out, just like they were supportive about me being their alpha. Our pack wasn't like other packs. We were progressive and forwarding thinking. Traditionally males have always been the alpha's and run the pack, and females are the Luna's. They support the alpha and help him run the pack but ultimately, the decisions fall to the alpha. The luna can give her input, but the alpha makes the final decision. (Flashback)     Our pack would still be that way if it weren't for me. You see, I am an only child. My parents tried to have more children but were only blessed with me. After years of trying with no luck, they had a meeting with our entire pack and asked them how they felt about handing the title of alpha to me when I came of age. At first, some of the older wolves were skeptical. They weren't sure a female could run a pack. My parents assured everyone that they would push me and train me like they would if I had been a male. They also told the pack if they felt I was not keeping up, they would then look to alternatives.      Fortunately, I excelled at everything they threw at me. I exceeded their expectations with my warrior training. I quickly moved up the ranks, and eventually, nobody could beat me, not even our elite warriors that had years of training on me. When I got my wolf at 18 and shifted for the first time, my wolf was significantly bigger than most she-wolves. I was a little smaller than my male counterparts, but that didn't matter because size isn't everything. My parents eventually had to ask a few of our neighboring packs if their sons that were 18 or older would like to come spar with me since nobody in my pack could beat me.      I'll never forget the first time Alpha Stephen Jones brought his son Kevin to spar with me. I had just turned 19, and Kevin was 20. I remember him laughing and his dad asking my parents if they were serious about us sparring. They laughed and said yes and told him not to underestimate me. We informed Kevin that we spar in human form and wolf form. We don't hold back. We fight like we are fighting the enemy, except we do not kill, we do not maim to the point that it would disfigure or permanently injure someone. Our motto is, the enemy will not hold back when fighting a real fight, so why should we train holding back when we know the enemy won't.      We moved into the sparring circle to fight in human form first. We spar in human form until someone concedes. Then we would get a ten-minute break before we shift into our wolves and spar again until someone concedes. Kevin looked at me with a smug grin on his face as if he had already had this in the bag. He didn't realize just how wrong he truly was and that his smugness would be his downfall.      The horn sounded, and we started circling each other. I studied his movements and waited for him to make the first move. The guy always made the first move because they were impatient. Just as I predicted, he rushed forward and swung a right hook at me, which I easily dodged. That left him open, and I landed a brutal punch to his ribs, causing him to stumble backward. He looked shocked at me for just a brief second before he lunged again, this time catching my shoulder. I fell backward but rolled as I fell, using that to keep low and sweep his legs out from under him. He hit the ground hard as I jumped on top and started delivering blows to his face and chest. He threw me off, and as I landed, he kicked me right in my stomach. I doubled over, trying to breathe through the pain. He grabbed me by my hair and started punching me in the ribs. However, because he wasn't using his hands to block, I reached over and punched him square in his family jewels. He immediately let me go, and I got him in the armbar hold. It took about 10 seconds before he tapped      Lying on the ground, trying to catch my breath, I said to him, "thank you for not holding back." He looked at me with what I can only describe as newfound respect. We finally got up to rest and hydrate before we shifted and sparred again. While we were waiting, his dad talked with him and looked a little irritated with his son. I couldn't hear everything, but I did catch him say, "Dad, I didn't hold back. She's stronger than she looks." I chuckled to myself; that's how all the guys in my pack started. They underestimated and eventually got their asses whooped.      After our ten minutes is up, I go to one of the little tent areas we have set up and strip before shifting into my wolf Eva. My wolf is black as midnight and larger than your typical she-wolf. I step into the ring just as Kevin's wolf is stepping into the ring as well. He was larger than me and a dark chocolate color with white paws. We hear the horn sound and start circling each other again. Kevin is growling but doesn't jump to make the first move as quickly as he did the first time. So we tempt him. Eva made a move as if she would move forward, and he took the bait lunging at us. I sidestep as Eva snaps her jaws, grabbing his leg and tossing him. He lets out a whimper as he hits the ground. Using this opportunity, I leaped on top of him, trying to get him into another submission hold. He swipes his paw at me, pushing me off and cutting my side open. Before I can get up, he puts his paw on my neck and is growling in my face trying to get to give in. I was starting to see spots and almost submitted, but I got a surge of energy and used my back paws and kicked him hard in his side. As he went flying, I leaped up and landed on top of him with my jaws around his jugular. He had no choice but to submit.     My warriors, parents, and other pack members watching the sparring matches cheered loudly for me. I puffed my chest out a bit as I filled with pride. These two sparring sessions were not easy, and he did not let up one bit. After we went and changed back into our clothes, we met our parents and walked back to the packhouse for lunch. Kevin's father was not as irritated as he was before since Kevin got beat. He was so impressed he asked if I would mind coming to his pack and helping train his warriors and she-wolves. Of course, I agreed because 1. we had an alliance with them, so it made sense if we ever needed help that they were trained just as well as our warriors, and 2. I would show the she-wolves that they could be more than just moms, cooks, nursemaids, etc...they could be fierce. (End flashback)     Rosita interrupted my thoughts. "So are you going to sit there all quiet the entire car ride, or are you going to spill about everything that happened with your mate!" I laughed at her, she was my best friend growing up, and we did everything together. She was the first person I told that I liked women, the first person I told about kissing a girl for the first time, and she was by my side when I finally came out to my parents. That probably is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do because I didn't know how anyone would react. (Flashback)     We were sitting in my room doing homework, and Rosita was talking about the latest boy toy. "Ki, you are awfully quiet. Are you ok?" I looked down, trying to figure out what to say to her. She came over and grabbed my hands. "Whatever it is, I am here for you. You are my best friend, and I would do anything for you." I gave her a small smile, whispering just loud enough for her to hear me, "I like girls." She was silent for a moment before she started to laugh hysterically. I looked up at her with a hurt and shocked expression. Here I was telling her something so personal, and she was laughing. She was laughing so hard she was crying, and in between breaths, this is what I heard "Ohhhh...*gasp*...my...*gasp*...gosh...*gasp*."      As her breathing started to even out, I glared at her for laughing at me for revealing something so personal. She looks at me and smiles. "Ki, I already knew that. I've known for a while. You dated guys, but you never really seemed truly comfortable. You had very little physical contact. On the rare occasion you kissed them, you looked like you were going to be physically sick, and the relationship never lasted any length of time. You also never bragged or talked about the guy you were dating. Then I would catch you checking out girls at school, or when you would talk about females in general, you were always way more enthusiastic."     I stared at my friend with what can only be described as incredulous. I thought I had hidden it way better than I had. "Why didn't you ever say anything to me?" Looking at me with probably the most serious face I have ever seen on my best friend, "Because you weren't ready, and it wasn't my place to force you. I knew eventually you would tell me when the time was right for you. When you were ready to start telling the world, I knew you'd tell me." I pulled her into a hug and cried. It was such a relief to tell someone and to be able to be myself finally.      She pulled away and asked, "So what made you decide to tell me now? Not that I'm not happy you did, but I feel like there is more to it than just wanting to tell someone." Rosi knew me so well, better than anyone, really, and she was right. I did have another reason for telling her. "Well, I am going to be 18 soon, and I will be gaining my wolf, but that also means I can finally find my mate. If my mate ends up being a woman, how am I going to explain that to my parents and the pack?" She looked at me thoughtfully for a second and said, "We will tell them together. I think you might find that people are more open than you think they are. Either way, I got your back no matter what."      Of course, she ended up being right. My parents told me the same thing Rosi did, telling me that they had known for a while they were just waiting on me to confirm it. My pack was terrific about it as well. They said as long as my mate was as good a person as I was, treated them with respect and kindness, and was willing to be their luna. They didn't care if my mate was a man or woman. Not many packs were ok with that same-s*x relationships. As wolves, we are s****l creatures by nature and built to make babies. However, we are in the 21st century now. The wolf population was booming, and with the advances in medicine, other options were now available to same-s*x couples that weren't available before. Plus, I trust the moon goddess, and I know she wouldn't make me this way if I weren't meant to be with a woman.  (End flashback)     "Jesus Christ, Kita! Are you going to daydream all night, or are you going to speak!" Shaking my head at her, "I am sorry, Rosi. I was just thinking back to when I came out to you, my parents, and our pack. Lena hasn't come out to anyone except her best friend. She isn't sure how they are going to react. Apparently, they are not as forward-thinking as we are. She's scared of how everyone is going to react. She was scared I wouldn't wait for her because she hadn't come out yet. She started crying when I told her that no matter what, I had her back and she would never be alone again. It was heartbreaking to see my mate that way, and there was absolutely nothing I could do but support her."      I didn't even need to look at Rosi's face to know she was angry because of how Lena has been made to feel and sad because nobody should ever be made to feel the way Lena feels now. As I told Rosi a little bit of what I did find out about Lena, my phone *pinged* letting me know I had a message. I could see Rosi grinning since it could only be one person this late at night. "Hey baby, we made it home. I am going to crash. I am cooking my parents breakfast and telling them tomorrow morning. I miss you tons *kissy heart emoji*. Goodnight, love." I was smiling like a love-sick puppy, and Rosi was just laughing. I scowled at her and then replied, " Thank you for texting me. I didn't want to text you in case your parents were around. Good luck tomorrow. I am so proud of you. I miss you to my love. Goodnight *heart emoji* *kissy face emoji*."     The drive home took another thirty minutes. We pulled up to the packhouse, which was mostly dark. Almost everyone was asleep except for some guards and a few night owls. As we made our way into the packhouse, we decided to take the elevator to our respective floors. Usually, we walked, but we were too tired from the party and the drive. As Rosi was about to get out on the 3rd floor, which was reserved for the Beta's and Gamma's, I said to her, "Do not tell anyone I found my mate tonight. I will tell my parents, your's and the Gammas in the morning. Then once Lena tells her parents, we can decide when she's going to move here, and we can tell the rest of the pack." She pouted but shook her head. "Fine. I am going to crash. See you later, Ki!"      The elevator opened on the 4th, and I made my way to my bedroom. I stripped out of my clothes, threw on a tank top and shorts, and crawled into bed. I looked at a few of the pictures I had taken of Lena tonight. She was beautiful. She was all mine. I had finally found my mate, and I couldn't wait to tell my parents and start planning for her arrival. I knew without a shadow of a doubt I would lay down my life for her. I would move heaven and earth to make sure Lena never felt alone again. I would love her until the end of time. I sighed, taking one last look at her picture. I put my phone on the charger, closed my eyes, and drifted off, hoping that tonight I would dream of my mate.
