chapter 1
Daphne stared out the window into the calm city, she sniffed. The usual scent of pine trees, grilled meat and the strong scents of other werewolves around was replaced by calm moist fresh air. Something she could only get after a heavy rain.
Daphne dropped her shoulders as she sighed. She had cried all night that they were puffy and swollen, she wanted to rub her eyes but was afraid they would bruise if she rubbed them any more. ‘I’d waited for him to feel it for so long, this was hopeless’ “I can’t do this anymore,”.
She admitted to herself that she was in love with him, but that was what made his cruel and colf behaviour all the harder to bare. She thought as she held her tummy, “Caleb will never love me, and now I don’t even believe he will love this child.”
Daphne crouched on the floor as she tried to hold back new tears. ‘How could he not have felt it yet? Has he not noticed we are true mates? Just how insignificant am I to him? So I am really just someone to produce a child for him.’
“It might have not been my choice to come here or to be his mate, but it will be my choice to leave and choose my own life.” She decided she was going to run away. She was too heartbroken to stay
…
A few hours had gone by as Elsie sat by the dining table waiting for Daphne to come down, she had prepared a lovely well well-balanced meal for Luna who needed all the nutrients she could get as recently the doctor announced that she was pregnant.
Elsie loved children and couldn’t help but imagine what the Alpha’s child would look like when it was born. ‘Boy or girl, I bet they would be beautiful, just like both their parents, But they should not take their father’s attitude.’
She shivered as she remembered how Cold Alpha Caleb can be, she felt sorry for Daphne sometimes.
Elsie quickly snapped back to the present, now she was just getting worried. She hurried to the elevator and clicked the up arrow as she waited for the elevator to pull up to the fourth floor. She got in and pressed the button for the 8th floor, the Penthouse.
The gold elevator doors slid open, letting in the bright sunlight from the large windows in. Elsie walked past the two guards stationed just infront of the elevator. They were dressed casually in white T-shirts and jackets, the one on the right had a loose black leather jacket that complemented his black boots whle the one on the left had a tight-fitting red wollen jacket that went well with his blue jagge jeans.
Elsi greeted them with a good and hurried past them, she was one of the few people allowed in and out of there easily. She got to Daphne’s door and met two more men stationed there as usuall. “Good morning, is Luna DDaphne not coming down for her breakfast this morning?” She ashed the one on the left who was leaning on the wall, he had jet-black curly hair.
“I don’t know” The man said in a relaxed tone “But she asked us not to bother her and said she won’t be coming out today.”
“Let me go in and prepare her for her to receive her food here then,” Elsie said as she stepped forward.
The second guard, a little taller than the first and standing in a straight and attentive position placed his hand on the door to block her “The Luna ordered that everyone leave her alone, we can’t let you in.”
Tsk “Well she needs to eat this morning, for the baby at least.” Elsie placed her hands on her hip “Or do you want Alpha Caleb to find out his mate and child didn’t get food for breakfast because the guards wouldn’t allow it.” The guards tensed at the mention of Caleb, and so did Elsie. Caleb was not someone anyone wanted to upset, If he found out something as much as thins, even Elsie would face a gruesome scolding as well.
The guard removed his hand that was blocking the door and quietly stood aside. Elsie nodded and opened the door, closing it behind her. After two minutes, she screamed, the guards rushed in to meet Elsie flinging her head out the window, Her calm composure was now completely lost to an unsettled demeanour.
“Where is she?” the curly hair guard asked as she hurriedly looked around “She left through the window!” Elsie said as she shifted away from the window for them to see the bedsheets tied together that went all the way down to the 5th-floor balcony just below.
“s**t,” The curly hair guard said as he rubbed his hands on his head. “Find her!” The three of them rushed out and alerted more guards.

Daphne hurried through the empty well well-well-designed hallway That had ceiling to floor windows flashing in the warm sunlight every few feets. she took almost nothing along with her, not that she came with much, to begin with. All she had on her now were some clothes, snacks from the fridge in her room, and a full stack of cash- Money is very important.
All of this was in one string bag she wore on her back. She tied her silky waist-length black hair into a bun at the nape of her neck. Daphne stopped running, paused and held her breath at the sound of someone coming, Werewolves were very sensitive, she needed to be careful, if she came too close they might even catch her scent.
She grew impatient as the two guards stood there chatting, she didn’t have time to waste, they would be figuring out her escape anytime soon, It was only a matter of time before she was- “Hey stop!” A loud voice interrupted her thoughts. Yep, I’ve figured it out.
She dashed forward, revealing herself to the two chatting guards who were confused at what was happening, But not for long, they quickly took off after her.

Caleb sat behind the desk in his study, He took a rag to dab away the sweat on his face, The AC wasn’t doing him any good.
“Have you found a solution to the foo startage problem already?” Noah – Caleb’s beta and the only person who could talk to Caleb casually – asked from the bright yellow leather sofa just opposite Caleb's desk as he flipped through piles of Paper.
“No,” Caleb said his large figure leaning back into his leather chair “That’s what I’m thinking so hard about as you can see.”, “I see,” Noah said, ignoring Caleb’s rude tone, Not that he could do anything about it anyway, He had come to accept that this was his dynamic with Caleb, his Alpha and childhood best friend.
“It’s not your fault you haven’t figured this out, It’s a very hard problem ” Noah continued to speak as if Caleb wanted him to. “It’s good that the pack is growing But our current revenue can’t handle all the new mouths, and all these little cubs eat so much caz’ they are growing.”
Caleb sighed, his tan skin and Thick, rough eyebrows exaggerating the agitated look on his face “Noah,”. “Yes?”, “Get out.”
Noah gave a large playful frowny face that Caleb did not respond to at all. Sometimes Caleb wondered if Noah was ever serious, ‘Maybe I should have him lucked in the basement downstairs till he learns some manners around me.’
Caleb’s thoughts were interrupted by an impatient knock on the door “What is it?” Caleb yelled to the other side of the door.
The door slung open and a skinny short boy with two scars on his face from his right ear to the middle of his chin appeared through the door, he looked too nervous to speak.
“Manny, what is it?”
“Sir!” Manny spoke forcefully out of his mouth, at times like this it was better to speak than to was time being shy. “The - Daphne has escaped.”
Noah paused in the middle of drinking water, turning to look at the boy with the first serious face he had made all day, Though it looked more worried than anything else.
“What do you mean escaped!” Caleb yelled.
