Adrian answered the door. Ellie’s parents were early. “Hi, come in.” He stepped aside. “Ellie’s still in the shower. She should be out shortly.”
Craig looked at him, eyes narrowed. Adrian was glad he’d showered hours before and his hair was dry because Craig was sizing him up with his dad-eyes.
“Please have a seat.” He pointed to the table where he’d put the food. “Would you like something to drink? We have Coke, water, orange juice.”
“Water, please,” said Liz as she sat. “This looks delicious but I’m not very hungry.” Her face was pale and there were dark circles under her eyes.
