"Hey... how come that you're not scared of me? Even though you know that me and my parents are demons." I said, watching the sunset with her right besides me. "Why would I be? You're a demon but you're kind so I'm not scared." She stated, "Anyway, your 11th birthday is tomorrow right? What do you want as a present?" She asked, it's been 11 years of my existence here on earth and its been 3 years since I met my only friend. Her name is Kylie, She was an orphan that lives next to our house, she wasn't very friendly with other kids but she's really nice. She helped me once when I was about to die, but she witnessed that I didn't die anyway so she knew about my real identity but still stayed besides me. "Hmm how about we go at the top of the mountain and play games" I said with enthusiasm, my eyes glistening at the thought of playing with her. "Okay then, let's meet tomorrow at the riverbank at 9am. You better not be late or I'll kill you... Oh wait, you won't die." She realized and laughed at her own statement. "Okay then!" I raised my pinky finger and so does she and wrapped it on mine. "You'll be there okay?" "Kids! Time to go home!" I heard my dad's voice coming from our house although were 1000 meters away from it. "My dad is calling me." I said with a frown, she smiled at me and pushed me from behind. "What's with your ugly face, go now. Your parents are waiting for you." She crossed her arms, and raised an eyebrow at me. "You should cherish the times when you're with your mom and dad, who knows when they'll be gone." "But Kylie, they won't die either--" "Okay stop. Just go now." She cut me off realizing that she won't make sense. I smiled at her before running back at our house. My mom was waiting for in front of the gate and smiled as she noticed my presence. "Welcome back. Did you play with Kylie all day?" She asked, wrapping her slender arms around me and easily hoisting me up on her arms. "Yeah! It was fun!" I replied, smiling cheekily. "That's great to hear... Now then, let's eat dinner and go to sleep, aren't you excited for your birthday tomorrow?" She asked, walking towards the kitchen where dad is trying to fix the pipes. "Yes, Kylie will play with me tomorrow too" I smiled. "Hey, how come you're not playing with us anymore." My dad butted in, while still focused on the water pipes. "Hey, just finish what you're doing. You know that she never had a friend before." My mom interjected, she's right though. Up until now, I was always alone. No one likes me since I have weird powers. But Kylie is different, she accepted me. Ah... I can't wait for tomorrow. ~~~~~~~ "Jackson! Take her and run! I'll handle this!" I heard my mom yelled from downstairs causing me to wake up in the middle of the night. I blinked a few times before realizing what's happening. It's this again... They found us... The door of my room slammed open, my dad came rushing to me, lifting me up from my bed and jumping out of the window. "Dad! What about mom?!" I asked, looking at our house that gets smaller and smaller with this distance my dad is making by running. "I know! So stay here, and I'll get her." He placed me down behind a huge rock where it's impossible to get seen and dashed back to our house. I heard gunshots in our house, and that made my legs tremble. "Mom... Dad... please be okay." My feet can't support my weight so I fell down on my knees helplessly. It's happening again... we have to leave this place, and go to another city. I have to say goodbye to Kylie, I may not see her anymore... Using my remaining strength, I summoned a shadow and sent it to her house. I'm sure she'll understand... ________ ________ Back to the present times* Sorry the flashbacks took so long. ________ (Time: Before Wendy's death) "Okay, that's all for today." Ms Minji dismissed the class, and everyone already left the room while me? I'm still packing my bags since I have so many notes to copy from Wendy because I just transferred. "Oh Ms Choi, good thing you're still here. Your stuffs arrived just now and is ready to be transferred in your assigned dorm. Hurry up so I can lead the way." Ms Minji smiled at me before walking out of the room that made me shove all the things in my bag and chase after her. "But I thought that it always takes 3 days for the moving bus to get here. Why is it here so quickly?" I asked, because it's weird that my stuffs suddenly arrived out of no where. "Hehe. You're lucky since I'm your homeroom teacher, I always take good care of my dear students." She grinned like a child. Somehow, I feel so at ease whenever I'm with Ms Minji as if she's my mother or something since she gives off a nice motherly aura. "HEY! NO RUNNING IN THE HALLWAY! YOU ALL WANT A ONE WAY TRIP TO DETENTION?!" She suddenly yelled with a husky and manly voice at the group of boys running around the place making me take back what I was thinking. She then cleared her throat when the boys timidly stopped running, and looked back at me. "Well anyway, as I was saying. I take good care of my students and makes sure they are well and healthy." She said, batting her eyelashes. "Umm... yeah...sure" I awkwardly laughed. "Yerin!" I heard someone calling me. I turned around and saw Wendy coming to my direction, holding her smartphone. "Oh what's up? Aren't you going home?" I asked, still following Ms Minji. "Yerin listen to me... I..." She began but most of my attention was on Ms Minji so I didn't bothered to have a conversation with her. "Oh there's the van, all your things are in there." Ms Minji said, running towards it so I followed her. "Umm, let's talk tomorrow Wendy. Bye!" I waved at her and she just stared at me. "Okay then, let's carry all these boxes to your room." Ms Minji rolled up her sleeves and began helping me. "Thanks ma'am, I'll treat you to a nice meal next time." I smiled and she was excited at the thought of that and can't help but to smile like an i***t. Now let's focus on putting all my stuffs in my dorm so I can sleep already. ___________ Timeskip. ___________ I was walking through the dimmed hallway, a glass of water in my hand that I took from the kitchen. It's currently 10pm and its already dead silent in this place, I guess everyone who lives here are like the honor student type. "Oh. I forgot about Wendy, was she trying to tell me something?" I scratched my head, trying to recall what happened this afternoon. "Oh well, I'll just ask her tomorrow" "What is wrong with you?!" I heard a voice from the room I just passed, making me turn back and look at that certain door. "Was I hallucinating or did I just heard Wendy's voice." I squinted my eyes at the door, and heard another scream from her. "Wendy?" I knocked on that door and silence immediately fell. "Y....yes?" I heard her reply, with a trembling voice. "Are you okay? Who are you talking to?" I asked, and she laughed awkwardly. "Ah, I was talking on my phone." She replied. "Ah okay then, call me if you need something. I'm gonna go back to my room, good night." I stated before walking away. But that was fake, I pretended that my footsteps were getting fainter and fainter because I'm not that dumb to not notice someone else's presence inside her room. "Is she gone?" I heard a familiar voice inside. "Good, now then... where we're we..." Another voice sounded out. The voice is muffled and I can't clearly hear what they are saying so I stood next the door and pressed my ear to it. "Stop it! Let go of me" She yelled, although I can't see her, I feel like she's pinned down or something. "Keep your voice down." The voice ordered, and I can hear muffled voice from Wendy almost as if she's crying for help. "Well then, time for some action." I whispered, kicking the door and knocking it down with one blow. As the door slammed open, I saw those three girls who were with us in the cafeteria a while ago. Yes... those sea urchins. "What the hell are you doing to her?" I exclaimed, shoving the blonde one --Jomin-- away from Wendy making her fall on her butt. She winced and grunted at me before standing up, while I stood in front of Wendy and made sure to cover her with my arms. "Well guess what newbie, this little b***h you're trying to protect just stole my boyfriend. And of course who wouldn't want revenge?" She rolled her eyes, obviously pissed off by Wendy's very existence. "I didn't stole him you ugly ass wannabe, he went to me on his own. Is it my fault that I'm much prettier than you?" Wendy suddenly spoke up behind me, I glanced behind my shoulder to see her expression. She was smiling weirdly, not a normal smile but more like a I'm-a-crazy-girl smile. I looked back in front of me to see Jomin already charging towards our direction, shoving me to the side and tackling Wendy. I fell on my shoulder and I swear I heard a faint crackling sound from the impact making me unable to stand up. I saw Jomin having a cat fight with Wendy and her two friends were just watching them as if it was an everyday scene for them. "Hey, you two. Stop them!" I winced trying to call for them but they just stared at me before going back to their businesses. I glanced back at the other two who were pulling each other's hair, I saw Jomin's eyes, she was dead serious on pulling out all the hair off Wendy's scalp. "You need to learn your lesson to stop flirting!" Jomin's voice were seriously mad and she was winning in their little cat fight since Wendy is out of breath already. She suddenly lifted Wendy's head in the air and slammed it on the wooden table causing a thud sound and following another thud sound which is her body completely slumping on the ground as if she was a lifeless doll. "Haaah... haaaa. Haha, well then... that should teach you, now get up." Jomin slightly poked Wendy's body on the floor with her foot, earning no response from the girl. Her body was completely facing on the ground, with her face covered with her sweaty hair. "Jomin, I think you overdid it." I heard a voice and it belongs to Mina. "Is she dead?" Hana asked as if it was nothing to her, crouching down besides her. "Tsk!" I tried my best to stand up and limp towards her body, I checked her pulse and I felt nothing. Perturbed, I rolled her body to the side revealing us her horrible expression. Her eyes were wide open and was terrified. "Oh my god..." I fell backwards, I can't believe the first day of my school would be me seeing my friend die in front of my face. "It must be internal bleeding from the strong impact she received, well how are you going to cover this up Jomin?" Mina stated, I believe she's the one who's the smart type. "Shut up, I'm thinking." Jomin was pacing back and forth. "I didn't plan to kill her, it was an accident." She murmured on her own. "Let's just hide her body in the storage room for now." Hana suggested, standing up from her crouched position and walking back to where is Mina. "What the heck?! You all killed her and you're trying to get away with it?" I frantically spoke with a worn out voice, I realized that I was crying. "Well what are you gonna do about it?" Jomin asked me in an intimidating tone, crossing her arms at me. "I'm gonna report you three to the police." I turned around and was about to exit the room but she spoke out. "Go ahead newbie, report us. But who is the police gonna believe? Me, the daughter of the disgustingly rich person in this city... or you, the mysterious transfer student who has no background of a family and is running away from someone." She smirked as she saw me twitch from her statement. "Yes I know who you really are, I did a little background check on you." She giggled, it's obvious that she was happy since her blackmailing plan is working because I turned back. "You wouldn't want to get caught right? I heard your family is quite mysterious and is hiding something." She walked to my direction, running her fingers through my hair. I looked at the other two who were calm at this situation and asked "How about you two? Are you also blackmailed by this girl that's why you don't intend to do anything?" I was glaring at the sight of them giggling. "Well, Jomin promised us a trip to Hawaii if we didn't report to the police." Hana smiled, fantasizing about the thought of her going to Hawaii. "And I was told that I'll have all the things that I want" Mina said in her usual monotone voice. I want to report this, they just took a life. And it was Wendy's, my only friend. But I can't afford to waste all the things I have done just to escape my past. If Jomin exposed my identity, if ever that happened, I would be on the run again trying to escape my ugly fate and I would put all my parent's effort go to waste. I won't let it all become nothing. I looked at Wendy's body, laying on the floor helplessly. Her wide open eyes were staring at me almost as if she was still alive, waiting for my answer to Jomin's question and seeing what I would do. My eyes were filled with guilt and pity before averting my gaze at her and saying the words. "I'm sorry Wendy"
