To Agree To Disagree

2067 Words
Evangeline POV It seemed as if he had won, I didn’t know what to think, let alone to say. I just stared into his eyes, not saying anything. He had started to laugh a little given that at the moment he had been winning.  “Sure, okay,” I replied. “Don't try to get out of this  Wait, what?” He was confused about why all of a sudden I would be agreeing with him.   “Not, have you learned? You can’t force someone to do something they don’t want to do.” “If you don’t come with me this second," He paused for a second, looking around the room as his smirk grew, "I’ll kill everyone in your school.” He added crossing his arms over his chest like it would make a difference before looking back down at me.  “You’re bluffing,” I spoke, declaring a war that I knew nothing about. I didn't know a lot, but I knew he wasn’t a monster as the humans made him out to be. By the words he spoke, I debated. By the look in his eyes, I knew I made the right call. “You really want to test me?” He questioned pushing me to say something.  The class seemed to scream in disagreement, running to the back of the room, leaving myself in the middle of the room. I looked deep and began to read him like an open book. One of the only things I was able to do. “Of course.” He signaled around having his little puppets walk closer to the humans causing their screams to increase but his eyes didn't leave mine. He was waiting for me to yell out but he was the first to snap. He held out his hand, five fingers opened, as they came to a stop.  “Fine you’re right-ish but you’re still coming with me.” I let out a smile, the fire didn’t blow up in my face quite yet. It was a good thing and I planned on running with it as far as possible.  “What is going to make me?” I questioned daring to be different. I checked my surroundings, noticing the teacher hiding behind her desk like a little girl.  “Hey, are there any mermaids on this planet?” I questioned remembering the argument from earlier. “If I answer, you have to come with me. Without fighting.” I glared at the opinion he had given me. I wondered if it was really worth giving my freedom over for. Do I want to find out, or fight back? “Fine.” “Fine, what.” I glared once again, he enjoyed my pain too much. He’ll be dead by the end of the day. “Fine, I’ll go with you. If you tell me the truth, do mermaids exist?”  “Yes, mermaids exist.” I smiled so brightly looking straight at the teacher’s face. Her face had disbelief written all over it. I couldn’t help but open up my mouth once again. “Boom! In your face, I win!” A few beasts chucked while others rolled their eyes at my childish behavior. The teacher seemed slightly more angry with each minute passing by. “You might have won that one, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are still dea-”  “Are you breathing?” I questioned.  “Yes.” She spoke, her voice was clear as can be. Her face, quite the opposite, held confusion.  “Are you bleeding?”  “No, but wh-” “Therefore they are not deadly. I think it’s time to get over it tech, I proved you wrong now-.” I cut off mid-sentence glaring at Kevin as he reached out towards me.  “Here you go, Alpha.” The green-haired guy, who name I managed to learn was Ray. They had a similar bag to what mine looked like. I took a second look, noticing that it was indeed my bag and not just another copy.  It made me wonder how they came to get their hands on it in the first place. What was the point in lockers, if people still manage to get into them? Kevin then proceeded to shove my books that were on my desk into the book bag.  I then stood up, grabbing it from him and swinging it onto my right shoulder, ready for war. A deal's a deal. As I left my classmates in the dust, I made my way through the hallways, I stopped suddenly caught everyone's attention. “Hey, kidnap a guy named Nate.” I demanded slightly joking. “Why?” Kevin questioned trying to see where I was coming from.  “Hey, you don’t get to ask these questions.” I snapped my fingers in his face.  “Fine, who’s he?” Kevin gave up quickly. “The guy on the ground.” His eyes held madness, I knew he wanted to go home. There was one thing standing in the way and that was me. Realizing that I wasn’t going to give in, he simply nodded at Ray as he headed back to the classroom for Nate. “What’s wrong with your eyes?” I questioned as curiosity got the best of me.  The pale green eyes were now a gold color. He just seemed different and scary now.  “You were right before about humans and the supernatural. We can’t pick where we stay, we are forced into the woods. Our home is that forest, no thanks to the witches. They cursed us to the woods, once we leave, we turn to beasts all in due time.”  I simply stated quite, unsure of how to talk about this. I had so many questions but didn’t know how to ask.  “Why would the witches do that?” I started as it was the only thing that came to mind.  “Same reason why people make decisions most of the time. Fear.” He pointed out. “What are they so afraid of?” My question wasn’t answered but my wish was. His screams were heard echoing down the halls as beasts dragged him to where we were. I couldn’t help but laugh at his torture. I’m evil, I know but who isn’t? “Why did you have to wake the beast?” Ray rolled his eyes before shoving him towards Kevin.  “I’m not carrying that thing.” Ray answered.  “Hey! I’m not a thing.” Nate defended yelling loudly, “I’m a human.” He replied softer.   “Great, now our peace is ruined.” Kevin  “Hey, I did what I was told, boss.” Ray shrugged.  Kevin tighten his grip on my arm, jerking me back causing me to stumble. I was going to open my mouth to protest but brought my attention to my hand.  Blood continued to fall, weaker than before but still noticeable. Bad enough for Kevin to act on it. Kevin then proceeded to pull me into the bathroom to address my wound.   “Grab me the first aid kit.” Kevin ordered.  “You can’t just come into the girls’ room whenever you feel like it.” I pointed out in frustration. It was his turn to roll his eyes. He turned on the water before becoming more serious than before.  “Watch me.” He dared, “How can you not notice that your hand is cut wide open?” “I don’t know, Kevin. Maybe I was too busy trying to get away from a bunch of dogs.”  “It’s your fault that you decided to walk into a forest. Knowing that it is filled with the supernatural, so it’s on you. People like you, that’s a good problem to have.” He ranted. I didn’t know what to say after his long rant. He was too nice about it and I had nothing to say back. “In my defense, the government could have lied to me.” He didn’t say anything as Ray walked into the room. He had something that Kevin wanted.  “Here’s the first aid kit, Alpha.” Ray handed it to Taylor before stepping back. Ready to be dismissed at any given moment. "Hey Alpha, I would check out her leg while you're at it." Kevin sighed before softly rolling his eyes knowing for a fact that Ray was correct. “Also, Luna do we have to keep him? Nate is out there acting like a girl, why is he important? Is he your boyfriend or something?” A growl sounded from Kevin as claws dug into my wrist. A sharp pain ached to flow through my body like a river forcing me to cry out in pain. “Evangeline, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean too, I was just mad.” I dismissed his words as I pulled my wrist out of his claws. I begin to clean it up, knowing it’ll leave a scar in the future. “You honestly think I’ll date someone like that. No, I’m just forcing him to see the truth. Taking him with me will do just that. So yes, he is important.” “Why must you prove everyone wrong?”  “The world is unfair, and I’m trying to give it the best shot. Showing people the truth will force people to act on it.” Silence filled the air making me realize that Kevin never thanks, anyone. As I finished cleaning the cuts on my wrist and hand, I decided to change that.  I looked at the two, trying to find something but how do you know what to find. I kicked Kevin in the leg, glaring at him. He sighed before looking over. “Thank you, Ray. You may go.” Ray nodded before leaving the two of us to be left alone.  I know the whole thing about curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back, so I went ahead with my question.  “Why do you have a first aid kit in the first place anyway. Doesn’t it take up too much room?” I questioned. “If anything humans take up too much space.” He joked but remained focused on my hand. “Yeah, well I think you are using valuable air that could be used for something more important, but no one is talking about that.”  “Ouch.” He muttered out at a loss for words while I just smiled in victory, “If you’re anything like my mom, I’ll need it. You’re like her from what I know, so I’ll keep it on hand.”  “Wait. Your mom was kidnapped?” I questioned earning only a nod in response. “Must run in the family then.” I earned a look from Kevin before a sight sigh left him. “You’ll understand everything soon.” “You think of everything, don’t you?” It was more of a statement than a question but I still ended up earning a nod.  “Better safe than sorry.” He muttered. “Touche.” I finished wrapping my hand before Kevin lead me out of the bathroom to where everyone else stood.  “Oh and one other thing, you aren’t walking.”  I didn’t have time to disagree with him as he picked me up, and took the weight off my leg.  “You’re going to the doctor once we get back.” Knowing that I would lose, I decided to listen. We ditched school and made our way back to the woods. Let’s not forget the screaming Nate in the background.
