Old Ways Don't Change Anything

1057 Words
Human's POV They say with time comes knowledge. I’m starting to wonder when knowledge would actually come. I am sixty-seven years old and yet the supernatural made me run in circles. “Hey, any news?” I sighed before declining her question.  Let me tell you all about it, the supernatural has been around for years. Lately, we have been feeding lies to both vampires and beasts. They have been getting too close to figuring out the truth. What? Don’t look at us like that, we aren’t the monsters in this story. Now supernatural and humans aren’t that different, we could all commit the same crimes if the situation was right.  The thing is, we have to figure out how to throw them off. It all started with this simple human named Evangeline. Well, that’s a lie she’s a vampire.  Around seventeen maybe eighteen years ago, we heard of the peacemaker between the two kinds. Now, us humans can’t have that. Sixteen years ago we ended up kidnapping this girl. We had to have help, of course. It was a very inside job, but I’m not going to be the one to tell you guys who it was either. We had to have a vampire that was close to the vampire king and queen to do the job. We promised them safely, which they got. We got them out before the bombs happened back in the meeting a thousand years ago.  To this day, they still give us information meaning they went to that war. The vampires were the first to act and well Evangeline turned it into a compromise. Figured that, she always had the power to do that.  Even in school, she was never like the others but pretty soon that won’t be an issue. In about two minutes or less, we will be listening to some issues that the supernatural is facing. Then we will be the ones to act on it.   A voice started to speak causing everyone in this room to freeze and myself to leave my thoughts at once.  “The only kind who causes everything, humans.” “Okay.” a voice who we assumed was once the vampire queen started. “We’ll go with this. Why would the government cause problems between the supernatural?” “Well for one, humans like to get into problems that aren’t theirs. We aren’t just talking about just one certain group of humans but almost everyone around the world. If they cause problems between the vampires and beasts, then you guys won’t pay attention to the simple humans. Think about it.” From the knowledge I had, I was able to guess that the person talking would be the one and only, Evangeline.  “So if we are at war, they can sit back and relax.” The vampire king pointed out. “Exactly.”  “Evangeline, how do you know all of this?”  “I had too. In this world, you must be two things. A listener and a problem solver. You must sit back and listen to others but also be able to give possible solutions.” “When did you have to learn that?” I’m guessing the brother asked.  “When I was seven years old.” “Why so young?”  “Kids have no choice but to grow up fast. I, myself, was no different. It’s becoming a bigger and bigger problem. Kids no longer have both parents at home, sometimes it’s just one and in some cases none. It makes it harder to actually live and act like a kid. We have too much to worry about, so we start out young.”  I mean, she wasn’t wrong. There are kids today that have so many issues that they shouldn’t have to have. Although, they don’t know any different because that’s the way they’re growing up. “Evangeline, I don’t think that’s something that we can change. What happened, happened it can’t be unchanged. You can only hope and sometimes hope isn’t enough.” “No.” Evangeline started once again. “That’s where you are wrong, the kids are the ones going to make a difference.” “Explain.” The current vampire king went on.  “I finally found something that adults can’t change. Yes, hope isn’t always the answer. It doesn’t have to be, but have faith in the kids that are going through the pain. When they grow up and have kids of their own it’s up themselves to decide whether to leave their kids or stay and raise them to be respectful and be kind.” “Okay, sis. What’s the difference between hope and faith?”  “Wyatt, Evangeline’s sister.” The girl who was currently on our side spoke, alerting us of her presence in the room here.  “Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based on the desire or goal. Faith is now. Faith is in a person, having trust in them. Hope is the future.” “Evangeline.” “You know everything, don’t you?”  “Wyatt-” She spoke as I quickly cut her off with just a simple wave of the hand. Glaring at her, I snapped. I had very little patience for people let alone vampires. “We get it.” I snapped, trying to focus on the nonsense she was talking about. With that, the vampire remained silent.  “No, but then again no one ever does.” Evangeline pointed out.  “Okay.” Kevin started cutting everyone off. “We need to get back to talking about the humans, more importantly, what we’re going to do about them.” “Hold on.” Evangeline’s voice declared shutting everyone up and no doubt listening. We sat around waiting for her to continue but got nothing. Minutes passed and I could only think of one thing. “They found it.”
