Chapter 7

Alexandra. My phone lights up on the desk. I look and see it's a call from John. My brow furrows in annoyance and confusion. I finally answer. "I've been calling you all week, why the hell haven't you been answering?" His arrogant and demanding voice instantly irritates me and makes me hysterical, but I manage my tone of voice perfectly. "Do you have something to say?" He starts to respond, but I interrupt him, "Talk to my lawyer," and I hang up. . I rubbed my face with my hands and leaned back slightly in the cushioned chair. Every day since Maryse told me about the lawsuit, John’s been bombarding me with calls and messages—each one digging him in deeper. He must have someone powerful backing him to keep pushing like this without fear of losing in court." My phone lights up again and it's a call from Josie. "Hey girl, I thought you were too busy daydreaming about having babies". Her laughter on the other end confirms that my friend is in a good mood. "No way, what I really need is to get out and catch some air with you. We haven't gone out in a while, you're so caught up with work and your love drama with your Colonel that you can't seem to do anything else, and don't even get me started on Harriet". My friend's voice turns sweet when mentioning Eros. "I haven’t spoken to him about anything except work, and he only replies with monosyllables or simple gestures. We haven’t really talked at all since the incident with the blonde." "‘Well, don’t get your hopes up. He’s not in the mood, so I won’t be free any time soon. Plus, I can’t just leave my daughter to go out partying. John might’ve sent someone to follow me, and I don’t want Harriet caught up in this mess. So, good luck for the next two weeks." I let out a small laugh and glanced toward Eros’s office. "Listen, Josie, I’ve got to go. I’ll call you when I get home. Bye." I didn’t wait for her to respond and hung up. "I need you in my office. Now." I nodded, took my folder, and entered his office, which felt smaller every time I walked in. Eros's presence in front of me made me feel small, especially under his gaze. He still caused havoc in my body. "I know what's going on with your ex-husband, and I think you're going to need me very soon," his intense gaze as he approached me resembled a lion stalking a poor fawn. In this case, I was the fawn. Confused, I looked at him, and he handed me a yellow envelope with photographs inside. "What is this?" I asked, opening the envelope with distrust, and upon opening it, I saw what it was. "It can't be..." My breath caught, my blood froze, my skin prickled, and my eyes stung. How did John get this? Why did he send it to Eros? My mind flashed back to those moments, unsure if I should keep looking at the photographs, tear them all up, or punch Eros in the face. I looked at him, terrified, and he approached me, his face showing absolutely nothing, but his jaw confirmed he was angry. "Are they real?" he asked. I nodded, holding my head high. I wasn't ashamed, but right now it wasn't good for them to come to light. It was supposed to stay hidden. "So... do you need help, Miss Romanov?" His cynical and arrogant smile made me look him in the eyes with fury. He had set a trap for me.
