{Raphael’s POV}
Today was much like any other.. waking up mid day, and hungover with a random woman in my bed. I sighed, rolling out and heading to the shower, I needed to wash this woman’s scent off of me, the longer I smelled it the more disgusted I felt. After I got cleaned up, I quickly got dressed in a white button up shirt, I left the top few buttons undone, and rolled up the sleeves. My father and I have been visiting his friend Mason’s pack. Out of all of my father’s friends he was the most tolerable.
Dad made a deal with his friends some years ago, that before my 30th birthday I would choose one of their daughters to mark, mate, and marry, seeing as how Lycan’s very rarely find their mates within their lifetime. He said that it would be good for me, and that I had to carry on our family lineage. I am the only child of the Lycan king.. so how could I refuse.
I left the room that was given to me and headed down to the living room in the pack house. Everyone had been here for days already, all of the bratty Alpha’s daughters, not to mention their obnoxious and power hungry fathers.
As I made my way down the stairs I could hear some of them talking, saying they sent their daughters home for the remainder of the weekend, thank the moon goddess. I couldn’t stand any more of their incessant whining. Suddenly, a conversation between my father and Alpha Mason caught my attention.
“I didn’t know your daughter was even still alive! I remember when she was young, you doted on her so much, then suddenly she was just gone, and you’d never talk about her!” My father said, leaning in and putting his arm around Mason’s neck. “You know my son had had issues picking a bride from all of the other contenders. Have you been holding out on us?” He chuckled.
Mason laughed, shaking his head. “My daughter isn’t exactly Raphael’s type. She was always a tomboy, always covered in mud, and so loud! She’d scream and run through these halls, roughhousing more than any boy I’d ever known!”
I rolled my eyes, walking into the kitchen and grabbing myself a drink. I poured a glass of whiskey for myself before walking back out into the living room. At least Mason never tried to force me to marry his daughter, or even his new stepdaughter, thought his wife had been awful insistent. Out of all of my father’s friends, he and Mason were the closest. They were always like that, being raised from pups, and all through school together. Those two had been inseparable since they were born. I sighed, flopping down into the recliner and rubbing my temples with one hand, as I took a drink of my whiskey with the other. The sound of tires pulling up outside caught all of our attention.
“She’s here!” Mason grinned. “I’ve been waiting to see her for so long! How do I look?” He asked my father, standing with his arms out.
“Nervous.” My father chuckled, brushing down Mason’s dress shirt. “Don’t be so worried Mason, she’s your little girl, just let yourself be excited!”
I didn’t realize she was coming here.. especially now, maybe this was a ploy.. though from what he said, she definitely wasn’t my type. I like a strong woman, don’t get me wrong, but one that isn’t too loud, or too messy. Not that I ever spend more than one night with them anyways.
I looked towards the door, wondering what kind of sloppy mess would walk through, then as they opened my eyes widened as my heart beat heavy, and slowly.
A woman with her hair all done up in a bun stepped inside, her skin was milky white, and kissed with freckles, her eyes a pale green, and her hair color was like that of raven feathers. A dark black with blue and purple undertones. She was wearing an elegant, but semi casual looking dress, she was small, very short, but curvy, and busty. My mind felt muddled for a moment as I stared her down. I watched as she quietly walked into the room, her eyes scanning across everyone before finally landing on Mason. “Hi dad..” she said, her voice was soft, and gentle like the rain on the leaves on the trees in the middle of the forest. Like soft whispers echoing all around you.
“Melody?” He asked, rushing over to her and lifting her off the ground, crushing her in a tight hug. “What happened to you? You look so different!” He says, placing her back on her feet and looking over her.
She giggled, which may be the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard as she looked up at him. “I’m not ten anymore dad.. I’m 24 now!”
I watched her, completely enamored by her vision, and that’s when I smelled it. Something was off with her.. her scent was dampened down, and mixed with another man’s.. someone in this pack. A growl began to form in my chest, but I shook it away. What was wrong with me? She’s just another woman.. I don’t know anything about her. Yet.. the idea of another man’s hands on her made my blood run cold.
My father rushed to her side taking her hands in his. Something wasn’t right with this picture.. she was small.. frail.. weak. Something was wrong with her, she’s the alphas daughter.. she should be tall, muscular, strong and brave. Instead, she was this tiny, meek thing in front of me. “My dear, you are absolutely gorgeous! I can’t believe what a perfectly respectable young lady you’ve grown into!” My father’s voice echoed through the room. “I remember when you were just a pup, you used to take on everyone no matter their age or size! Now that I think about it, I do believe I remember you shoving my son’s head in a mud pie that you made.” He chuckled.
My eyes shot open wide as I glared at her. “That was her?” I thought to myself. She was a menace.. always caked in mud, and her hair a stringy mess, she used to fight me every time I’d come over.. I suppose I’d forgotten those times.. they were so long ago. Now though, now I remember.. and I plan on getting my revenge. She knew better than to bully a future king.. now I was going to show her what it meant to mess with me. I chuckled to myself, a possibly wicked grin falling on my lips. I probably looked insane, but I didn’t care, I had found the cause of my childhood torment.
Her giggle pulled me out of my thoughts, as I shot my attention fully back to her. “Wow.. did I really? I guess I was kind of wild back then.. please, accept my apology for that.” She smiled up at him.
“Well if you want to apologize, my son is right over there!” My father smiled, pointing at me, and when she looked towards me, he gave me a daring smirk.
Her eyes landed on me, and my heart stopped for a moment, as I felt my wolf Wrath stir within me. “Mate!” His voice rang in my ears.. it felt as though the world stopped around me, as I watched her approach, this wasn’t supposed to happen.. Lycan’s very rarely ever find their mate.. and yet mine was this little thing that subjected me to torment as a child. This couldn’t be happening right.. this is some kind of dream.. or a joke, right?
