Chapter 2

700 Words
Chapter 2 LAYDEN I walked into the front door of my house. My sand blond hair stuck to the back of my neck and forehead from sweat. Work day was exhausting and all I wanted to do was sit on my couch and watch tv… which I did. I hung up my raincoat and proceeded to do just that. I sighed deeply in relaxation. 'My favorite part of the day.' I grabbed the remote and opened the live tv app on my smart TV, browsing through the news channels for something different. I decided on the local news. “Although, no one knows exactly how the incident occurred,” the reporter on the TV stated, “but police say they might be linked to the Spokane incident and is making its way across the state.” I raised an eyebrow. ‘The news app on my phone keeps notifying me about this. Should I be worried?’ I changed the channel to one of my favorite adult cartoons. About an hour later, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out and read a text from Carter. Dude, come to Kent! This place is awesome! I sighed. ‘Should I... f**k it.' I shot him a text back and got off the couch towards the front door. Before I even had time to grab my couch, there was a knock on the door. I raised an eyebrow. “Dude!” I heard Carter’s voice on the other side of the door. I opened it. “You were already here?” “Yeah I was going to take you to the club one way or another. Let’s go!” He pointed with his thumb towards his truck. “We want you to have fun tonight so I’m driving.” I chuckled as we got into his truck and started driving. “Wow you guys really have this planned out.” “Well, we just want you to have a better outlook on life. Especially after what happened over there.” I barely heard him say the last part but I knew what he meant. Not a lot of people experience what I’ve been through. After 4 tours in Afghanistan, I saw some things not even God himself wanted to see. Makes me question whether or not there is a God. “Stop spacing!” I heard Carter's voice before he wacked me over the head. “The f**k, dude!” “Layden needs to get laid, Pronto!” “Don’t we all.” Carter laughed. “I have a feeling you’re going to meet someone tonight, dude. My gut never lies!” I rolled my eyes. I don’t believe in superstition but if it happens, it happens. We pulled into the parking lot of the club and got out of the truck. We could hear the music from the parking lot. “So why a club and not a bar?” I asked. “Its ladies night.” Carter replied with a smirk, wiggling his eyebrows. “Your soul mate is in there, dude! I can feel it!” “Are you sure it’s not gas?” “Well it could be.” We flashed the bouncer our IDs and paid the woman behind the counter before walking inside. We looked around and spotted 3 other familiar faces across the building. We push our way through the crowd to the other 3 guys at a table. “Hey Buddy!” My tall, red headed friend, Justin, shouted over the music as we pulled each other into a hug. “Glad you made it!” “I honestly thought you weren’t gonna come!” My shaggy brunette friend, Gordon, said with a hug. “I’ll buy you a drink!” He stated as he started walking towards the bar. My other brunette friend, Beau, wrapped an arm around my shoulders, his red goatee outlining his smile. “Hey! Hey! Look who’s here! Now you can watch me kick Justin's ass at pool!” He said as he pointed to the pool table next to us. “Ay! f**k you!” Justin shouted back. I laughed as I take a seat next to Carter. Gordon came back not long later with my drink. The bubbles of the beer tickling down my throat. I looked around at all the people at the bar and dance floor. They were enjoying themselves through dancing, singing, drinking, making out. Looks like fun.  ‘Wish I could feel lik...’ I stopped mid thought when my eyes found a pair of icy blue ones followed by the most beautiful face he’s ever seen wrapped in silky brown hair. ‘Who... is that?’ ~●♡●~
