Blurb

I gave myself to the devil to forget my pain—now he refuses to let me go.

After a long shift at work, I came home tired and starving—

Only to find my boyfriend of four years in bed with another woman.

Heartbroken and angry, I made one reckless choice…

I spent the night with Grayson Carter—my ex’s powerful, billionaire boss.

It was meant to be a mistake.

But Grayson had other plans.

He’s rich, cold, and completely out of my league.

I’m just a small-town girl with a broken heart and a pile of student loans.

“Grayson, are you really drunk… or just pretending?”

“Drunk enough to touch you. Sober enough to want to.”

“Then why is your hand on my chest?”

“Wrong spot? I’ll move it.”

“Grayson, where are your hands?!”

“Guess.”

Now he won’t leave me alone.

He calls, shows up at work, sends me flowers—and somehow, he’s gotten into my heart.

I only wanted revenge.

But falling for Grayson Carter might be the biggest mistake of all.

When Forever Fell Apart
Today was supposed to be perfect. I had just wrapped up an exhausting double shift. My boyfriend, Jason Cole, had sent me a text earlier: "Happy anniversary, babe. "I’ve got a big surprise waiting for you tonight." Just reading it made my heart skip a beat, knowing we’ve been together for four years, and tonight felt like a promise of forever. When I arrived home, I was greeted by silence. Standing in front of the door of the house, thinking about how to celebrate this day, my heart was pounding. I took the key to open the door, but it turned out the door was unlocked. Inside, the lights were dim. A table was set with candles and two plates of pasta and beside it was a bucket of red roses. My heart swelled. Jason had gone all out. But something wasn’t right. Suddenly, I heard a strange sound from the room. I immediately went there. I had just walked a few steps, and I heard a woman's moan. Jason... oh my god... yes!” That voice. I've never experienced it, but at least I know what it is. No. No. No. This had to be a mistake. We had just picked out tiles for our kitchen. We were planning our wedding. This couldn’t happen. I pushed the door open. Slowly. There he was. Jason is in bed with a woman, tangled in sheets, her nails clawing his back. I staggered back, and my vision was blurry, kicking the door with my foot. "Bang!" “Jason!” I screamed, my voice hoarse, trembling with rage. He jumped, immediately covered both of their bodies with a blanket, then turned to me, shocked, staring at me: “Emma, are you crazy?!” he shouted, eyes wide. I stared at him deeply: "I'm crazy, what about you guys? What are you doing, Jason? Instead of guilt, he laughed. “You saw everything. Good. Let’s break up.” "What?! Jason, are you serious?" You want to break up with me?" He didn’t flinch. No regrets. Trying to find something in his expression, but all I found was unrequited love. The woman, now smug, smirked at me. “Didn’t you hear him? It’s over. He’s mine now.” Fury surged. I lunged at her, my palm raised, but Jason grabbed my wrist midair. “You’re embarrassing yourself,” he hissed. “You think you can compete with her?” Before I could react, she slapped me—hard. Pain bloomed across my cheek. “Get out, Emma,” Jason said coldly, pulling her close. “And don’t come back.” That scene was like a needle stabbing my eyes. I cried and turned away. Everything felt unreal. At home, I cried until my throat ached. Around 3 a.m., a message from Jason lit up my phone: “Let me go. Lily can give me what you never could.” I stared at the name. Lily River. After seeing Jason's message, I immediately opened my laptop and searched for Lily's name on Google. I wanted to know how great she was. It turns out she was the niece of Grayson Carter, CEO of Carter International—the youngest billionaire in the city. No wonder he is so arrogant! Suddenly, an idea came running through my head. If Jason wanted Lily, then I’d make her regret ever touching what was mine. And if I could win Grayson Carter—her powerful, untouchable uncle—then one day, she’d call me Aunt Emma. One day, Jason would call me ma’am. I tried. For weeks, I found excuses to pass near Carter International, stalked his LinkedIn, watched interviews. Nothing worked, until finally the company held a party. I was finally able to approach him. He was tall and handsome. Dressed in black-on-black Armani. Every woman in the room looked, but no one dared to approach. I watched him silently, saw him standing out of the room. He stepped out alone and I followed. He leaned against the marble hallway wall, tipsy, maybe more. This was my chance. My heart pounded as I walked toward him. My heels clicked like gunshots in the quiet corridor. "Mr. Carter?" He looked up. His eyes—storm gray—met mine. "Hmm?" he drawled. "You seem drunk." "Completely drunk," he replied, his voice gravelly. "Then tell me," I whispered, "why your hand is on my chest." He smiled. "Wrong place? I'll move it." "Grayson, where are your hands?! " "Guess." His warm breath brushed the shell of my ear. I shuddered. My head screamed run. My body begged to stay. That night, I surrendered to the devil. I wasn't certain what hurt more—Jason's betrayal, or the fact that I never wanted Grayson Carter to let me go.
