Tia "At least you can put a smile on your face, Mom sighed and said for the umpteenth time as she struggled with the zipper of my white dress." I looked at my reflection in the mirror, the perfectly made up face , the cherry red heart shaped lips, and the meticulously styled hair could not conceal the sadness in my blue eyes. My blue eyes drifted to my mom's face who is standing behind me. The striking resemblance between us makes everyone sigh. I turned away and slumped my shoulders as I moved away from the mirror. "You know this is not my choice Mom, if it were up to me I would be in a military uniform right now, I replied sharply as I picked up the puffy white dress that was making it difficult for me to walk. "Ok quit complaining, for heavens sake you are marrying the most eligible man in the city, every girl in the country would die to be in your position." Rina , my younger sister interjected before Mom could reply as she rolled her eyes and helped me with my dress. I walked to the sofa in the room with her help and sat on it with difficulty and folded my hands as I looked up at her. "I am not other girls Rina! I had a dream and when my dream was just within my reach it was snatched away from me by an arrogant prick who could marry any woman he wants but insists on ruining my life , I whisper-shouted in frustration as I punched the dress sprawled around me. "Enough, Tia ! I don't want to hear any more complains from you.You know how important this marriage is to the winters family." "It is the only way to save everything your father and I worked for , Mom reprimanded as she shed the loving mother act and became her usual no- nonsense self." I bit my lips in frustration as I turned my face away from her. "Our family will need no one's saving if he didn't interfere, I muttered unable to hold back. "What's done is done Tia , now all we can do is deal with the situation, Mom replied softening her tone. "Ok you rest here , I will go and make sure everything is ready outside, She continued before walking out. "And don't try anything funny, I am leaving James and Henry here so you will not succeed , Mom warned walking back in . I rolled my eyes as soon as she walked out again, I know she is referring to me trying to run away after finding out about this ridiculous marriage . And James and Henry are highly skilled bodyguards who normally stay by my father's side but now they are guarding the door of my hotel room. But seriously what was I supposed to do, just accept my fate ??? Imagine getting your dream job and coming home to celebrate with your family only for them to shred it into pieces by forcing an arranged marriage on you. Apparently Adrian Cross's mother come to our house and proposed her son's marriage to me and made it clear that I will not work after marriage. A single tear trickled down my cheek as I clenched my fists tightly. And worst of all my parents had no problem with the unreasonable request just so that they could save our company. "You don't have suffer like I did, you will be well taken care of." Mom had said in order to convince me. Well she did a bad job cause I was anything but convinced and I tried to run away. Unfortunately for me she had anticipated it and caught me with the help of James and Henry. Then she sat me down and explain it to me further how because of the Cross family's interference our family have no choice but to seek their help. And the only way they will help us avoid bankruptcy is if I married their son, Adrian Cross who seems to be obsessed with me even though I doubt we have ever met. Afterwards I didn't try to escape again knowing that it will ruin everything my family had worked for and reluctantly agreed to marry him. My parents were not born rich but in middle class struggling families and together they worked their way up, managing to set up a successful business, Winters CORP. But obviously our wealth and connections could not measure up to families like the Cross who have been in power for centuries. Which is the reason the Cross family was easily able to back us into a corner.... "Tia stop crying for heavens sake , you will ruin your make-up, Rina said loudly interrupting my myriad of thoughts as she walked to me with a tissue in hand. I looked at myself in the full length mirror in the middle of the room and saw my wet cheeks. It seems I was crying without realizing! I shook my head and relaxed my furrowed brows. There is no point in thinking about the past, now I have to face the present bravely. I somehow have to get married today without punching someone in the face and without having a meltdown myself. I stood up and walked to the dressing table and sat in front of it "Call the hair stylist and the make-up artist again, I told Rina as I looked at my reflection my eyes brimming with determination. I know I will have to get married today even if I don't want to but it will not be the worst thing that ever happened to me. It will be the worst nightmare of Adrian Cross, him and his affluent bratty family will regret his marriage to me. I promise they won't even know what hit them . Rina handed me the tissue and went to call the hair stylist and make up artist who came in a few minutes. I instructed them to touch up my makeup and hair. After everything was done , I stood up and put on my veil. Bang! "I can't believe you!" The door opened with a bang and a shrill voice rang out in the room, I hastily took off the veil covering my face and looked at the culprit. My face turned pale as I realized who it is! I have only one sentence in mind, "It's Over"!.
