A Leap into the Unknown
The moment Jasper walked into her house, Alodia felt like she could breathe again.
He didn’t say anything at first. He just pulled her into his arms, holding her so tightly it was as if he could keep her from falling apart.
Alodia melted into his warmth, her body trembling against his.
“I thought I lost you,” she whispered.
Jasper’s hand traced soothing circles on her back. “I was waiting for you to figure out what you wanted.”
She pulled back slightly, looking up at him. “I chose you.”
Something flickered in his eyes—relief, longing, hesitation.
“Are you sure?” His voice was low, rough. “Because I don’t want to be your escape, Alodia. I want to be your choice.”
She swallowed, nodding. “You are.”
Jasper studied her, as if searching for any doubt. Then, finally, he cupped her face and kissed her.
It was different this time. Not stolen. Not forbidden.
This was real.
A choice, not a mistake.
Her hands curled into his shirt, pulling him closer, pouring every unspoken word into the kiss.
Jasper groaned against her lips, his fingers tangling in her hair as he deepened the kiss.
For the first time in years, there was no guilt.
No fear.
Just them.

Unfinished Business
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a golden glow over the bed.
Alodia stirred, blinking against the light, her body still tangled with Jasper’s.
She turned her head slightly, watching him sleep.
His face was peaceful, the usual tension gone from his features.
For the first time in a long time, she didn’t wake up feeling like she was living a double life.
A soft knock at the door broke the silence.
Alodia tensed.
Jasper’s eyes fluttered open, his arms tightening around her. “What’s wrong?”
Another knock.
She quickly sat up, heart racing. “It might be Raegan.”
Jasper frowned but didn’t say anything.
Alodia slipped out of bed, grabbing her robe before heading to the door.
When she opened it, her breath caught.
Raegan stood there, looking exhausted, dark circles under his eyes.
“We need to talk,” he said.
Alodia’s heart pounded. “Raegan, I—”
His gaze flickered past her, his face darkening.
She turned, realizing Jasper had followed her, standing shirtless in the hallway.
The tension was immediate, suffocating.
Raegan’s jaw clenched. “Wow. That didn’t take long.”
Alodia stepped forward. “Raegan, please—”
He let out a bitter laugh. “You know what? Forget it. I just came to talk about the kids.”
Guilt twisted in her chest. “I still want us to co-parent, Raegan. The kids need us both.”
His expression hardened. “Yeah. They do. And that’s the only reason I’m still standing here.”
Jasper stayed silent, watching carefully.
Raegan exhaled, rubbing his temples. “I want full custody.”
Alodia’s heart dropped. “What?”
“You can still see them,” Raegan said quickly. “But they deserve stability, and you—” He gestured at Jasper. “You’re too busy playing house with him to focus on them.”
Tears burned in Alodia’s eyes. “That’s not fair.”
Raegan’s voice was sharp. “Neither was what you did to me.”
Silence.
Then he shook his head. “I’ll have my lawyer contact you.”
Alodia’s body went cold.
Jasper’s voice was low. “Raegan, don’t do this.”
Raegan met his gaze, eyes blazing. “This isn’t about you, Jasper. This is about my kids.”
Then he turned and walked away.
Alodia stood frozen, her world crumbling all over again.
Jasper reached for her, but she stepped back, tears spilling down her cheeks.
“I can’t lose my kids.”
Jasper’s expression was torn. “Then fight for them.”
Her hands clenched into fists.
For the first time, she realized choosing Jasper didn’t mean the battle was over.
It had only just begun.

Fighting for What Matters
Alodia stood frozen in the doorway, her breath coming in short, uneven gasps as Raegan disappeared down the driveway.
Her world was unraveling again.
Jasper placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Alodia—”
She jerked away, wrapping her arms around herself. “I can’t lose them, Jasper.” Her voice cracked. “Raegan is serious. He’ll take them from me.”
Jasper exhaled slowly. “Then we fight.”
Alodia turned to him, eyes wide and filled with desperation. “I don’t have the money to go against him in court. He’s been the stable one. The responsible one. The one who stayed.”
Jasper’s expression darkened. “That’s not fair. You’ve always been there for your kids.”
“But I wasn’t faithful,” she whispered.
Jasper flinched.
Alodia immediately regretted saying it, but the truth hung between them, heavy and undeniable.
Jasper ran a hand through his hair, his jaw tight. “Raegan might be hurt, but that doesn’t mean he can erase you from your kids’ lives.”
Alodia swallowed, her mind racing. “What if the judge sees it differently?”
Jasper stepped closer, gripping her hands. “Then we show them that you’re still a great mother. That you’re capable, loving, and that your personal life doesn’t change how much you love your kids.”
Alodia hesitated.
Then Jasper cupped her face, his thumb brushing away a stray tear. “You’re not alone in this, Alodia.”
Her breath hitched.
For years, she had juggled two lives, two loves. But now, for the first time, Jasper wasn’t just her secret. He was standing by her side, ready to face the storm with her.
She nodded slowly.
“I’ll fight,” she whispered.
Jasper pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. “Then we fight together.”

An Unexpected Ally
The next day, Alodia sat across from Liana at a coffee shop, her hands wrapped tightly around a steaming cup.
“I don’t know what to do,” she admitted. “Raegan is serious about getting full custody.”
Liana sighed, stirring her drink. “It was bound to happen, Alodia. You can’t have an affair for three years and expect things to stay civil.”
Alodia winced. “I know. But the kids—”
Liana’s gaze softened. “Raegan is a great father, but you’re their mother. No judge is going to take them away completely.”
“But if he paints me as unstable—”
Liana cut her off. “Then you fight back. Prove that you’re still the mother you’ve always been.”
Alodia chewed on her lip. “I need a good lawyer.”
Liana smirked. “You need the best lawyer.”
Alodia frowned. “Do you know someone?”
Liana leaned forward. “Actually, I do. And you’re not going to believe who it is.”
Alodia raised an eyebrow. “Who?”
Liana’s smirk widened. “Jasper’s wife.”
Alodia nearly dropped her coffee. “What?!”
Liana laughed. “Yeah. Miranda is one of the top family lawyers in the city.”
Alodia’s heart pounded. “You think she’d help me? She probably hates me.”
Liana shrugged. “Maybe. But she also hates losing. And from what I’ve heard, she and Jasper’s marriage has been over for years.”
Alodia’s stomach twisted.
Could she really ask Miranda for help?
Was she that desperate?
She thought of her kids.
Then she exhaled sharply. “Set up the meeting.”
Liana grinned. “Now that’s the Alodia I know.”

A Deal with the Devil
Two days later, Alodia walked into a sleek law office, her heart hammering.
She felt Jasper’s presence behind her, steady and warm.
Then the office door opened.
Miranda Blake stood there, poised and unreadable, her piercing green eyes locked onto Alodia.
“I never thought I’d see you sitting in my office,” Miranda said coolly.
Alodia swallowed hard. “I need your help.”
Miranda arched an eyebrow. “You mean, the woman who slept with my husband for three years wants me to be her lawyer?”
Alodia clenched her fists. “Yes.”
Miranda let out a short laugh. “You have some nerve.”
Jasper stepped forward, his voice firm. “Miranda—”
She held up a hand, stopping him. Then she turned back to Alodia, studying her.
“Why should I help you?” Miranda asked, her tone sharp.
Alodia straightened. “Because you’re the best. And because you know better than anyone what it’s like to be in a broken marriage.”
Miranda’s expression flickered for a split second.
Then she smirked. “Fair enough.”
Alodia’s breath caught. “You’ll help me?”
Miranda crossed her arms. “I didn’t say that.”
Jasper sighed. “Miranda—”
She held up a hand. “I’ll make you a deal.”
Alodia’s pulse pounded. “What kind of deal?”
Miranda’s lips curved. “I’ll take your case.”
Alodia’s eyes widened. “You will?”
Miranda’s smirk deepened. “On one condition.”
Alodia stiffened. “What is it?”
Miranda leaned forward.
“I want Jasper to sign the divorce papers.”
Silence.
Alodia’s stomach twisted as she looked at Jasper.
He was tense, his jaw tight.
“Miranda—” Jasper started, but she cut him off.
“You want me to help her?” Miranda gestured to Alodia. “Fine. But I’m done letting you drag this out.”
Jasper hesitated.
Alodia bit her lip. “Jasper…”
His eyes met hers.
Then he exhaled.
“Fine,” Jasper said. “I’ll sign them.”
Miranda’s smirk widened.
“Good. Then we have a deal.”

A War Begins
As Alodia walked out of the office with Jasper, she felt like she had just made a pact with the devil.
Miranda might have agreed to help, but she wasn’t doing it out of kindness.
This was a power play.
And now, the battle with Raegan was about to begin.
Jasper reached for her hand, squeezing it. “We’ll get through this.”
Alodia exhaled.
She hoped he was right.
Because if she lost this fight…
She’d lose everything.
