Chapter1
Elena Hayes sat in the corner of a beautiful cafe , her phone pressed firmly to her ear. Her grandfather's rich voice could be heard clearly across the line. "You need to realize, Elena," he added, "the future of our family's business is dependent on this decision. Only a married heir can control the economic world. This is about stability and protecting our brand." Elena groaned and tapped her fingers across her coffee cup. "Grandfather, we've discussed this. I am not marrying for the sake of business. And I'm not going to allow you force me into a contract with a stranger just to follow tradition. I want to marry for pure love, not some ignorant man who brags about his family riches in front of me." "Then find somebody on your own, Elena,” he replied. “Because if you don’t, you know what will happen. Don't make me choose for you.” Elena stared at her phone, frustration evident in her. She loved her grandfather, but his insistence on this outdated rule was getting to her. She angrily dropped the phone on the table without replying her grandfather anymore. Why couldn’t her achievements alone prove she was capable of running the family empire? Just as she was about to take a sip of her coffee, the bell above the café door jingled. A tall man in a pressed shirt and dark jeans stepped inside, scanning the room. His sharp eyes landed on her, and to her surprise, he started walking directly toward her. “Hi there,” he said, stopping at her table. His voice was warm, his smile was captivating. “You must be Sophia. I’m Logan.” Elena blinked, caught off guard. “I’m sorry, who?” she asked back, staring at the stranger right in front of her. “Sophia. The blind date.” He pointed toward her white dress. “My friend told me you’d be wearing white, and—well—you’re the only one here who fits that description.” Realization dawned on her. He thought she was someone else. A blind date? The idea was almost laughable, but the man standing in front of her didn’t seem like he was joking. “I think you’ve made a mistake,” Elena said coolly. Logan’s face turned pale. “Oh, uh, you’re not…?” “No,” she interrupted, folding her arms. “I’m not Sophia. And for the record, I don’t go on blind dates.” Elena said blatantly For a moment, he stood there, clearly embarrassed. He ran his hands over his smooth hair slowly looking at the woman in front of her. “Wow, I’m really sorry. This is not how I planned to make a first impression today.” Despite her irritation, Elena found herself intrigued. He was nervous but surprisingly genuine. Most men who approached her were overly confident, showing off their status or charm. This one seemed different. He was calmer and also apologetic “It’s fine,” she said with a small sigh. “Just a misunderstanding.” “I should go,” Logan said quickly. “Sorry again for bothering you.” He turned to leave but paused, glancing back. “By the way, I’m Logan Wright. Former soldier. Now, uh, I’m a nurse. A gynecology nurse, actually.” Elena raised an eyebrow. That was certainly unexpected. “A nurse? That’s… interesting.” He smiled sheepishly. “It’s not a career that impresses most people, but I like helping others. Anyway, sorry again. Have a good day.” Before she could respond, he walked out of the café, leaving her sitting there as he stared weirdly at the man walking out of the cafe. “Who was that?” her grandfather’s voice asked through the phone, still lying on the table. Elena who thought she had the call cut made her face turn red with anger. She thought the call was offline already. Elena picked it up and sighed. “No one. Just someone who thought I was his date.” “He seemed polite,” her grandfather said thoughtfully. “And you didn’t send him away immediately. That’s unusual for you.” Elena frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “Nothing,” he replied lightly, though there was a hint of amusement in his tone. “I’m just saying that maybe this young man could be worth your attention.” Elena scoffed. “He’s a nurse, Grandfather. He’s not exactly someone you’d consider for our family. He is too cheap.” “Perhaps not,” he admitted, “but I saw the way you spoke to him. There’s something about him that caught your interest, even if you won’t admit it.” Elena didn’t reply, unsure of what to make of the meeting he had with the man she had just met or her grandfather’s awkward observation. She brushed it off and finished her coffee, but Logan Wright’s smile and kind eyes was popping into her head each minute. Logan walked out of the café, feeling like an i***t. “Sophia” wasn’t Sophia at all, and he’d just made a fool of himself in front of a stranger. He cursed his luck. His friend had insisted this blind date would be good for him, a chance to break his streak of failed relationships. Now, he wasn’t sure if blind dates were worth the hassle. As Logan strolled down the street, he found himself unable to stop thinking about the woman he had just talked to. She displayed assurance, keenness, and perhaps was even daunting. Although she wasn't his official companion, she showed enough kindness to avoid completely embarrassing him He shook his head. “Forget it, Logan,” he said slowly to himself. “She’s way out of your league.” But for some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d just met a very important figure. Back at the café, Elena sat for a long time, thinking. Her grandfather’s words annoyed her, but deep down, she knew there was some truth to them. Logan Wright could be the right man for her. A former soldier turned gynecology nurse? He wasn’t like the polished businessmen or heirs she usually met. Her thoughts were interrupted when her phone buzzed again. Another call from her grandfather. “What now?” she asked, picking up her phone and staring at the wide screen. “I’ve been thinking,” he said. “Maybe that man was sent into your path for a reason. Don’t dismiss him so quickly.” “Grandfather, we don’t even know anything about him.” “Then find out,” he replied simply. Elena rolled her eyes. “You’re impossible.” “And you’re stubborn,” he shot back with a laugh. “But you’ll come around. I have faith in you.” Elena hung up, shaking her head. The whole situation was ridiculous, but for some reason, Logan’s name and face stayed with her. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to find out more about him
