Broken Angel

Good news at work

She arrived late for work, so she entered from the back door and put on the uniform, as fast as she could. She really hoped her boss will not notice her at all, or else she really would be in trouble. He would kill her or even worse fire her. 

She was cleaning the tables, to get the restaurant ready for opening, when she heard her boss calling her name, standing a couple of feet behind her. 

"Rose, I need to talk with you. Leave what are you doing and come to my office"

"Yes sir" - she answered and felt her heart beating fast. "Oh God, I really need this job, please help me"

She entered her boss's office, as he was typing something at his computer.

"Please Rose take a seat" - he said without looking at her. 

She waited patiently until he finished typing, with her eyes fixed at the floor. 

"Rose, I spoke with my chef today and she insisted that I should give you an opportunity at the kitchen. She said you are a hidden talent and with the right support, you can even have a great career in this field. I have been working with that crazy woman for years now and never have I heard her speaking with so much consideration for someone else talent, except for herself. But I checked your file and you have no formal education regarding culinary. However, I'm willing to give you a chance. If you are interested, you can start working at the cosine, first as a helper under Mrs. Weller's orders. What do you think? Are you interested?" 

This took Rose by surprise, as it had never crossed her mind that the restaurant chef thought of her as a talent, worthy for her to teach and to guide. Until now she didn't even know that the chef knew her name. Rose had helped a few times in the kitchen, due to the lack of staff and even though she loved cooking as it was a passion of hers, she never thought that she was talented at it.

"I... I would be honored to, sir... I wasn't expecting this at all" - she said politely. 

"Great"- the boss responded with enthusiasm. "I will arrange everything, you will of course have a raise. You can start tomorrow... One more thing, we are expecting some important international clients today, from Spain if I'm not mistaken. Since you are so good at languages, I need you to be in charge of the staff attending them."

"Absolutely... Thank you so much, sir, I will do my best to not let down your trust"

"I'm sure you will. You may continue to work now..."- he said smiling and as she was at the door he added "And make sure to be right on time now on, I may be a little tolerant, but trust me Mrs. Weller is not" 

"hmmm yes sir... I apologize" - she mumbled and felt her cheeks going red from embarrassment. 

At the lunch break finally, she had some free time. She was dying to tell her nana the good news, so she called her. After a few rings, from the other side of the phone responded the sweet voice of an old lady

"Hello, who is this? "

"Nana it's me  "

"Oh my angel, how are you doing "- she said and one just could feel the love and care, even from the phone.

"I'm good nana. I called you because I wanted to tell you that I have been promoted. Starting tomorrow I will be working in the kitchen, to learn how to be a chef. Isn't that wonderful? Thanks to your teaching, I can now finally have a career, a profession in life" 

"Oh my angel, this is wonderful, just wonderful. Oh, I am so happy, so proud of you... You will do so great.. so so great" 

"Thank you nana. I have to go now, I need to get back to work. I will tell you everything once I get home. Love you, bye"

"Take care, my dear, I love you too"- the sweet voice answered back 

Nana was the only family she had in this life, even though they weren't blood-related. She knew nana since she was a little girl and in the darkest moment of her life, when she really thought that her life was ended, nana took her under her wing and gave her a second chance at life. Since then she had been staying with nana and now that she was too old to work and provide financially, Rose has been working hard to support both of them. It made her so happy if she could give back just a little bit of happiness to her nana's life.
