Sounds of cars zooming by filled the air as she walked up the long pathway to school. School wasn't Rose's favorite thing, she enjoyed the classes, she has a love of learning. Her least favorite thing was when it came time for training lessons. Did I mention that this school was a werewolf only school? The rest of the town population, while some know about werewolves are relatively unaware that they live among the supernatural. The school is viewed as a prissy private school to all those non werewolves that are refused admittance. Many of the rich and powerful families in town have tried to bribe their children in with a ton of monetary "donations" but have all been rejected.
The school is a safe space for children of the werewolf pack to learn their packs history, to train with their wolf (once they turn 16), to learn skills that with strengthen the pack as a whole. Each person that gets a job has to run it by the alphas inner circle. It is ultimately up to the beta of the pack who keeps track of everyone. You are also forced to take a test to see where you will better fit for a job during your senior year. You could end up a doctor, a fireman, a policeman, a reporter, a pharmacist, etc. Our pack is as strong as it is, because we focus on educational growth and practical learning. Internships are done with another werewolf who is already in that field. My father for example if the pack doctor and my mother is the pack chemist. She makes all the medicine and researches as many alternative medicines as possible to strengthen our pack. She is world renowned within the werewolf community. Making pills that strengthen our speed and agility. Making pills to heal wounds even faster than our natural healing abilities. She's saved many warriors lives with her research. Father is a the inner circles pack doctor. He only works for them in the house, often going in and out at odd hours and he is always on call for when they need him. If he didn't have a family of his own, he would have been forced to live there.
My sister having just graduated from school, has gotten an internship with the local newspaper, this helps keep werewolf events out of the newspapers and away from the public eye. She is viewed as a powerful future asset to the pack. She remains unmated though, and will continue to join the pack mating bash. The bash is a once a year event that all out of school wolves go to, in hopes to find their potential mates. It's a way people get to see people they otherwise may never come across, as they may travel in different circles or career paths. My sister was very popular in school, but was more studious and had less interactions then you would think. She stayed away from crazy parties, trying to stay studious to get a good job choice during her senior year. There's no redo available once your path has been chosen by the Beta.
I personally would love to no longer be apart of this pack, while its the most advanced pack around, its full of conniving woman who are currently fighting for the future alphas attention. Once Lance takes over for his father, our current alpha, then he will be the one in charge. He will be making all the calls and can change it as he sees fit. While I have no problem with Lance (having no opportunity to truly meet him-besides a few cases and parties, we have never interacted) I do have a huge problem with Veronica, whom is rumored to be his future Luna. While there's no way for them to know yet, he wont know until his 18th birthday. Which is the time every wolf is capable of finding their true mate. Some never do, some settle with other unmated individuals, finding love-but never finding their true mate.
Veronica acts entirely different around Lance, she doesn't make fun of others when she is around, not to the point of cruelty anyway. She makes up for it though when he's away from her. She so far this year alone, has pored peanut butter into my hair while I was walking down the hallway. She's put dye on my locker so it would stain my hands. She has tripped me, bumped me, made me slip down the stairs. Every year it becomes more physical and more psychological. Its come to the point where I have to look around each doorway and check everything I eat incase its laced with garlic powder (including my water bottle). I will never understand how Lance doesn't see it all, how he doesn't even hear about it from others. However, she gets away with everything she does with a seductive smile and flip of her ash blond hair. Veronica is your stereotypical head cheerleader, blonde, leggy and thin. I on the other hand have blood red hair, curves, and am busty which I've learned to strap and flatten. As long as I hid my curves with baggy clothes Veronica wont point them out. Id rather take a water balloon to the head again then deal with her criticizing my body.
I walk through the large double doors in front of the school, making my way to my locker. I usually keep all my books in their so they are not targeted and ruined. Its getting slightly frustrating explaining to my parents why I need another history, math, literature book. I grab my math book, making my way through the hallway to my first class of the day. Hair covering my face the whole way, making it difficult to weave past the growing crowd of kids. Some kids give me dirty looks as I pass by. I'm sure my appearance doesn't attract positive vibes, but a lot of it is targeted jealousy because my family is known to be favored by the inner pack. While I don't often go to the pack house, my mom, sister, and father are found to dine with the alpha regularly and it is known that they are all good friends.
I turn the corner and abruptly am slammed into the floor my books flying next to me. I stare at the ceiling wondering how I could be so caught of guard to have not seen the tower of a man currently standing above me. A tear escaped my eye on its own as pain in my lower back sets in, only to vanish just as quickly healing remarkably fast.
