Thorns from a Blood Red Laugh

I couldn't believe who was standing above me. I looked around quickly to see if anyone had seen me fall flat on my back. Luckily the hallway was mostly emptied, only a few people lingering glancing at their time sheets trying to figure out where they were going. It was the first day of school, and people were racing to figure out where their new classrooms were. I look up only to see a giant hand in front of my face. the future Alphas to be exact. I stared at it for a solid minute before finally coming back to myself and reached my much smaller hand forward. Lance's grip was rough, his tanned hands looking much darker compared to my pale ones. He lifted my up with one arm, making me almost fly forward from his strength. I stumble forward slightly as I catch myself steadying my body as to not fall over. I make sure my hair covers my face as I look down examining my shoes.  "Thank you" my voice comes out in a raspy whisper, small sounding from lack of overall use. "I appreciate your help, I apologize whole heartedly for slamming into you" This was the longest sentence I've spoken in 2 months.  "You're welcome, here's your math text book" his voice came out with such a low masculine baritone, it made the hair on my arm stand up.  I look up enough to see the text book in his hand, he was so quick to retrieve it that I didn't even know that he had moved. I grabbed the book softly from his hand. I felt weak and pathetic, I must look like a street urchin boy.  A hand grabbed my chin yanking my head upward, my eyes widened in shock and horror when my blue eyes met his beautiful forest green eyes. "Sorry, I smelled your tears earlier and I wanted to make sure you weren't hurt". His concern was actually touching. The horror probably very clear on my face, because he scanned his eyes over my face one more time, before he nodded to himself and his hand dropped from my face.  I gave him a small smile, that probably looked very odd on my otherwise fear covered face. I wanted him to know I appreciated his help. But I hoped he wouldn't tell Veronica about helping me. He was her boyfriend after all. She is very territorial of him, she very much believed she was going to be a the future Luna and his mate.  He seemed to also think she was his mate, for the way he doted on her so much. The whole pack was ready for his 18th birthday in just 6 months, to which he will finally be able to learn who his mate was, and declare his intentions formally.  "Thank you again" I said quickly and louder than I intended. I turned quickly and walked as fast as I could to the math classroom, hoping the teacher wasn't cruel about her being late. She hardly noticed that she walked in with her face showing, instead of he head bowed. Not until she heard her classmates say "is she new, I've never seen her in school before". I looked around and realized they were all staring at me. I quickly took a seat in the front row, only 2 seats were available since I was so late. In next walked LANCE! I couldn't believe it, of course he has this class. It was just my luck, and the only other spot to sit in happens to be the one directly next to me.  He slides into the desk, hands folding to allow his chin to rest on them. he quirks an eye brow at me and gives me a slight smirk. His brown hair falling slightly into his green eyes and he stairs me in the eye again! then he turns his eyes forward to look at the teacher, whom cleared his throat. "You must be Rose, and of course you are Lance"  "yes" I whisper quietly nodding my head with what I hoped was an apologetic look, I glance to the side toward lance, only to see him staring at me once more, shifting his gaze toward the teacher once more he nodded slightly inclining his head toward Mr. Rambo. "Well lets move on with the lesson" I try to pay attention to the teachers words, but all I can see is his green eyes in my mind, and all I can hear is that smooth voice. I sighed loudly shaking my head. Only to accidently knock my book off my desk with how roughly i shook.  "Here's your textbook again, this is becoming a habitual event, Rose" his voice breaks through my thoughts and I glance at him once more and I can see his smirk grow larger into a full out wolf grin. I couldn't help the small laugh that escaped my lips. He was more charismatic then rumors told. He even got me the elusive loner to laugh. I bet he's so proud of himself. I grabbed the book, and shoved my face into it, not knowing what to do as my eyes lit up for the first time in school and my face grew into a cheesy grin. I sighed and smiled at the same time.
