Chapter 14 - Kyle

1360 Words
Kyle POV Mate!, she said it, the day I’ve always dreaded came, I knew she hadn’t found her mate yet, not like me, I found my mate when I was 18, the girl next door, the one I had the biggest crush on, the one I already was madly in love with even before I knew she was my mate. I lost her when I was 19, no, she didn’t die, she cheated, a lot, I was never enough for her, I was an important member of the pack, but not important enough, I was the alpha’s son, just not the next alpha. I tried to ignore the pain and the hurt until I found her naked in my brother’s room, he was supposed to come visit us but as always he came up with an excuse and didn’t come, guess she didn’t know that, she actually thought she could seduce her way to becoming the next Luna. I rejected her on the spot, word got out of how and why I rejected her, and everybody treated her the way she deserved, like the trash she was, I believe it got so bad that few months later her parents took her and moved to another pack and I never heard of her since, nor do I want to. Then came Leila, beautiful, captivating yet broken, she came with some of her old pack members asking for asylum and to join our pack, my father didn’t see them as a threat and apparently knew of what happened to their home and took pity, they became part of the pack and Leila became part of my life. She reluctantly told me what she went through in details, about her brother’s mate and how her family died, Slowly but steadily, she started to trust me and I became a huge part of her life as she became my whole life. She is everything I wished my mate would be, she saw me as Kyle, not the son of the alpha, she loves me for me not for what I could get her, she is still pure even after everything she went through, I like to think that I helped her heal from it all, even a little, because she was the only thing that got me through my father’s death, our pack being stolen from us and almost turning into rogues, now I’m going to lose her too. “Did she come back yet?” Eric asks coming to stand beside me, on the porch of the house alpha Michael gave us on these secluded area on his pack land, he actually thought he could hide us from Derek and we so stupidly believed him. “Not yet... maybe she won’t ever” i say with a sad sigh. “Come on Kyle, you won’t lose her, she won’t choose him, she wants to kill him, don’t worry little bro” Eric says putting a supportive hand on my shoulder. “But her wolf didn’t let her, her wolf already accepts him, she won’t be able to resist for long, you know how the mate bond works” I say defeated. “Why would she mate her to the man who killed her family, a f*****g hunter of all people out there, she would be better off matted to a f*****g vampire” I ask no one at particular feeling a surge of anger. “Yeah… the moon goddess is a cruel b***h” Eric sighs, he is matted to the enemy as well, at least his mate is a werewolf who killed no one… that we know off. “this day is a close runner up to the day our father died… do you think Derek is telling the truth?”I ask Eric, he was never close with our father, always arguing and disagreeing on everything to the point that Eric left and postponed taking on his position as alpha. “Unfortunately, I do, maybe he didn’t know the whole plan, but he knew enough to make him as guilty as the rest” Eric says clenching his jaws. Yes, dad was not the straightest of arrows; he did some things that I didn’t completely agree with, but he was a good father and a great alpha, we were a strong pack and he kept us safe or was I just delusional? King William POV We were sitting in our private study discussing what to do for our son, Connor, 15th birthday party that’s coming up in few weeks, it was the wrong subject to talk about because it brought us right back to the same issue we’ve been arguing about since the summoning. “You can’t do that William, she is my daughter” Charlotte argues. “It’s either that or her death Char, there is no other option” I say with finality. “Don’t even say that, I swear William, if you lay a hand on her, I will leave and you won’t see me ever again” she threatens. “She wants to kill my son, OUR son, what am I supposed to do?, I’m sorry Charlotte but if hurting her is the answer, it’s what I’m going to do, so pick the lesser evil” I say giving her the choice. “Haven’t we hurt her enough?” she yells with tears pooling in her eyes, “We didn’t mean to, we didn’t know” I say avoiding her gaze, I’m not proud of what we did …and what she saw us do. “But we did, we hurt all of them, we were selfish, I was selfish and still am, putting my happiness and needs over theirs, I shouldn’t have done that” she says as her tears roll down her cheeks. “What are you saying? You regret choosing me?” I say feeling hurt. “No, never, I just regret choosing you the way I did, we should have done it differently” she says shaking her head. “We couldn’t have done it any other way; I could barely control myself from marking you when I first saw you at that restaurant, do you remember that?” I say getting closer to her. “How could I forget? From the moment I saw you, I knew my life will change forever” she says as I take her hand in mine while wiping her tears with the other. “you looked sad yet so beautiful, I knew right there and then that I will never let you go” I say kissing her finger tips, I later learned that she was waiting for Adam, it was their anniversary dinner and he canceled for some emergency and it was a habit of his to cancel on her, she didn’t know then that I was that emergency, I slaughtered a squad of hunters who were tailing me, trying to mainly gather information but I didn’t care, I just don’t like being followed. “I was lost the moment you said hello William, but still, I shouldn’t have left my children behind, maybe-” she says pulling her hands away from mine. “I’m the werewolves’ king, I couldn’t have pure hunters living in my house Charlotte and you know that, we brought Alison once we were sure she is human just like you” I try to reach for her hands again but she steps back. “Still, we should have been more discreet, every time I remember what she said, that they saw us, I just…” she trails off, shutting her eyes tightly as if she is seeing the memory through their eyes. “Yes, that was … shameful, but it doesn’t change the fact that your daughter is part of the premonition" i remind her. "a premonition told by an old lady, before she died, who didn't even speak english that well, william" she retrots. "she was right about us so far wasn't she? i'm not taking the risk, charlotte, she must be dealt with, so choose, either death or-”, “NO!...make your move ” she says through clenched jaws.
