Episode four

CHAPTER FOUR

THE ROWS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Hours after Kingston left,Aurora finally stopped crying.She crawled where she flung the book he gave to her to take a look at it. Taking a good look at it,it resembled a note made by oneself.She opened the first page and there it was written”the rules”. Flipping over the pages she understood that the book was actually written for her and was like a guide in Kingston's house.So many strict rules on her movement in and around with people in the house including he,her husband.

Aurora had so many questions to ask,to be it was just same as being binded to a chain in the prison yard.After reading and resting for a bit,she washed up and ordered breakfast.It arrived almost immediately as she ordered it late in the morning and the cook had already made her meal waiting for her orders.Everyone she had been with thought she would turned cold after the unknown but known unpleasant encounter with her husband.

Emily was downstairs washing some vegetables for lunch when she heard a coarse voice behind her,

“So what are we having for lunch?”

Emily turned back to look at who asked and it was Aurora behind her.

“Good day ma’am”, Aurora greeted as she slightly bowed her head in respect.”I'm sorry if I startled you”,she apologized in advance.

“No, it's okay”,Emily said as she went to the side and held her gently.

“I wanted to make salad and was just washing them”,she quickly added.

“I wish to see how you make those”, Aurora softly whispered as she looked at her tenderly.

“Of course”,Emily said with a broad smile and led her to the cooking area.

“I'm making a Hawaiian based food called Sushi bowls”,she paused a bit and looked at Aurora who was looking flustered.

“Okay, it's a meal made with fish bowls,rice, veggies and sauce”,she explained calmly.

“So now, you're washing the veggies for it?”, Aurora asked smiling as she understood what she was saying and tried helping her wash the vegetables.Soon lunch was served and she ate alone and Kingston wasn't at home.Later on,she went to visit the house library according to the rules in the book.There were lots of novels to be read.She was taken aback when she behold the magnificent sight,long rows and columns of heavy looking storybooks.Her eyes caught up on one at the top counter and she pushed the ladder over to get it.Reaching to the book,she touched it but couldn't grab it well and it fell.

“Ouch”, someone said almost immediately.

Aurora looked down from the ladder upon a maid in working clothes.

She came down and apologized,

“I'm so sorry,I didn't know that someone was here but who are you?”.

“My name is Phil”,she said as she bowed her head in respect.”I’m incharge if cleaning and arranging the library.

“Oh”, Aurora exclaimed.”I came to take a book, I will take my leave now.

As soon as she left, another girl joined Phil,her name was Coles.

“Poor girl, she's doing everything to keep herself happy”,Coles said as she waved her head in a pitiful manner.

“Shut it”,Phil pinched her mouth close,scared that Aurora might hear.

“Let's go and continue cleaning”,Phil remarked as she dragged her to a corner.

Aurora took the book and went to her room.She read and slept till late in the night.She didn't go down for dinner as she had no appetite and was only waiting for Kingston to get back home.She had a lot of questions in her mind.After waiting for hours with no signs of Kingston coming home early that night,she told her Monroe to keep her updated.

Finally he came home after a few minutes past midnight.Aurora who was fast asleep was awoken by the sound of the gates and his car.Few minutes,when she knew that he must have entered his office,she left her room with the book he gave her earlier.

“He went into his private office”, Monroe said behind her as she stood at the end of the hallway waiting for him to pass by.

“How are you still awake?”,Aurora asked in shock,her eyes searching for answers.

“You told me to let you know once he is back,so I was just doing as I was told”,she said

“And then,I was sleeping in the dining room when I heard the sound of his car”,she quickly added.

“Go to bed now, you need rest.And thank you for your help”, Aurora said light heartedly.

Aurora thought it was better to go into Kingston's room and wait for him since he might spend a long time at the office.It was locked when she got there so she had no choice but to go back to her room and wait, hoping for him to come.

Some minutes passed and Kingston came to her room hopefully.

“A newly married man ought to be home early at least to behold his wife before she sleeps off”,Aurora said calmly but tensed.

“And since when do I answer you about my time?”, Kingston said coldly removing his jacket.

“I'm your wife,not a shadow,not a maid”, she said slowly raising her voice in pain.

Kingston led out a mocking laugh and said,

“My wife!How come you think so highly of yourself?”

“Then why did you marry me,to punish me?”Aurora asked, choking with emotion.

“No,I married you because you were convenient, don't mistake that for love”, Kingston blurted out, approaching her slowly.

“You're cruel, Kingston.I have tried to love you but you seem far and cold.You might regret this”, Aurora said in tears with clenched fists.

“I'm only here to love you and be your wife according to my father's wish”,she continued,”but all efforts are in vain”.

“Regret,I don't regret”,he replied leaning towards her face,”you will learn to know your place”,he uttered loudly as he waved the book he gave her earlier to her face.

At this point, Aurora notices a lipstick stain on the collar of his shirt but doesn't say anything out of fear.She was quietly praying that he leaves without doing anything.

Suddenly Kingston's phone rang,a message came in.He gets worried after reading it and tries to hide it.Just as he turned to leave the room,he said coldly.

“Stay out of my way and life Aurora.Or I will make you regret ever becoming a Blake”

He left banging the door after him while Aurora worried what triggered him to say such a thing.What could be in that message that got him worried and angry,she thought.
