Episode One
CHAPTER ONE THE BRIDE IN SILENCE Tears trickled down her face as no one watched. She took the cloth beside her and damped gently. It seemed like the world stood still as her mind speculated over the recent happenings in her life. Embracing tragedy at an early age was so uncalled-for. She stood in the dressing mirror dazed and thoughtless, until she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder, “Do you like it or do you want to change into another?” a girl about her age asked with a gentle smile. Amelia looked at her, faked a faint smile. Looking in the mirror, she just brushed her hair aside with her hand. “What's the use of getting the most beautiful when it isn't really your day?"she mattered under her breath. She waved her thoughts aside and looked at her again, “I think I will go with this, it's all good, by the way” she replied. On her way home, she got a call from her soon-to-be husband asking her where she had been. She explained that she was on her way home from the bridal store. "I want you to hurry home. I don't really have much time to spend here," Kingston said in a cold manner and abruptly ended the call. Soon, she got home and went to the kitchen to get some water to calm her nerves down. “Aurora”, a voice called behind her. It was the cook. She came close to her, took her palms and looked into her eyes. Running her hand through her hair, she smiled and said "You have always been beautiful, please be strong as well." “Now go, they're waiting for you," Magna said as she gestured to the passage that leads to the sitting room. Magna has always loved her like a daughter;her calm aura, obedience and understanding. She had longed for her to have a happy life, but things turned out otherwise. She waved her head as she pitied the poor girl. “I'm here,"Aurora said as soon as she stepped in. There was a look of anger on Kingston's face. “How was it?” her mother asked in excitement. “It was all good, but I thought it would have been better if he had been there,” Aurora replied, referring to Kingston as she focused intently on nothing in particular. Mr Ramsey cleared his throat to begin the conversation, “You will be getting married tomorrow as we all know, and I called you here to let you know that your husband and I have agreed on the fact that you will be a homemaker after marriage….” “But dad," Aurora interrupted him. Her heart was filled with pain as she couldn't fathom what was happening. First, she was married off, now she's stopped working. Tears dropped from her eyes as her step-father hushed her silently. “That was an order, no opinions or suggestions needed,” Kingston said in a voice that looked like no argument. Tears streamed down her face as her mother looked helplessly at her. She was weak and couldn't utter a word as her mother's eyes averted her. She rushed upstairs knocking over her glass of water as she was blinded with tears already. Locking herself up and sitting behind the dog, her body shocked with silent sobs, the grief too heavy for words. Then she heard a knock in the room. She quickly wiped her tears and opened the door to see Kingston. He walked past her without waiting for a response. “And what are you doing in my room if I may ask?” He glanced around as she stepped back nervously. He came close to her, making her press her back against the door and leaned towards her. A creepy grin curled on his lips, he pushed Aurora to the side as his hand ran through her hair. “You know," he started calmly,” When your father first talked to me about you, he talked about how beautiful, intelligent and calm you are," pushing his face further". I didn't think you would make a fine wife, you know." Aurora, who was already scared to her wits, dared not to talk. She had not always liked him despite having spent some time with him. She calmly brushed off his hands and went to her bed. “The wedding is tomorrow. I hope to see you beautiful, as always,” Kingston said as he squeezed her hand. This was when she noticed the blood in her hand. “Go take yourself, I won't like to be seen with a girl that can't take care of herself,” he uttered loudly as he banged the door behind him. Aurora winced in pain as she went to the kitchen. Just as she was applying some ointment, she heard an inaudible noise in the hallway. She went to check, and it was Kingston and her step-father. They were looking around like they were hiding something. Then she heard her step-father say, “She's all yours now. I don't need anything to disrupt my plans. What plans?, Aurora thought. What plans would possibly need her to be married off before it was accomplished. She tried leaning in to hear more when the cook called her from behind. She dragged Magna and hid behind the door as her stepfather came closer. Magna caught on fast and held her breath. He left as he didn't see anyone. She heard Kingston telling him that they would speak on the phone and he left. Magna seemed confused, but Aurora was more puzzled than ever. She went to her room and slept off easily this time, clouded with thoughts. The next morning, the whole house was busy. Everyone was busy preparing for the wedding. Though it was a big day for Aurora, she was the least happy person in the house. Wedding bells rang, and the bride entered with grace. Vows were exchanged and everyone celebrated. Soon after the party ended, the couple went home. Kingston switched immediately from being loving to being vicious. It was their wedding night, the night that the bride got the most pampering and the two savored themselves in romance, but Aurora was just there sitting on the bed watching her husband swipe through his phone smiling. No words, no exchange of glances, no touches, just the both of them sitting apart from each other. Soon he got a call. “Okay, I will be in my office waiting for you," he said hurriedly and stood up.He stood up, looked at her and left, closing her behind.
