CHAPTER THREE
SILENT SUFFERING
“And what are you in deep thoughts for?” a deep voice asked behind her, and she jerked into reality. She turned and saw Kingston standing behind, swiftly standing up to greet him as well.
“It was nothing," she said in a voice full of incomposure. Indeed, she was scared. At first, she didn't know the man who noticed that someone was in the forbidden area, and now, Kingston is about to find out that she went there.
Kingston looked at her hands and how hard she was squeezing them and noticed that something was off.
“Young lady,I ask again, where were you?”
Aurora hesitated for a while and calmly told him,
“I was with the gardener for not quite long. She told me about some new flowers, and it has kept me curious since I loved flowers”.
Kingston gave her a look that stared into her mind and turned to walk away. She held his hand and dropped it saying,
“We haven't spent the night as a couple, I hope you did honor that."
Kingston turned with a smile and started walking towards her, making her move back. She was startled that she might have pissed him off and pleased,
“I didn't mean to….I just wanted to..” stammered. But he kept on making her walk back till her back was against the wall. He leaned towards her, with their faces so close to each other that he pushed back again after brushing his hand through her hair.
“I once asked you where you were today," he said, lifting thick cobwebs from her hair.
“I…I…” Aurora didn't know what to say. Her mind went blank. She was so scared of her wits.
Then suddenly a voice came from behind,
“She went deeper into the garden and Ma Georgia told her not to…”,it was Jade.
“Is the garden that thick with webs”, Kingston asked in disbelief.
“Yes sir, you know that Ma Georgia just started work today. By tomorrow, I'm sure everything will be in place," Jade said to assure him.
He looked at Aurora, who was still fighting to breathe.
“Expect me this night,” he said with a cold demeanor and left.
“I saw you come out and saw when he entered.I thought I might be of help," she explained briefly and left.
Aurora recognized the clothes she was wearing were the same as the one she saw in the forbidden, but she didn't have the smell of that perfume on her. She didn't really suspect her but was grateful that she was saved from a pit she dug for herself. After a while, she went to the kitchen to relieve herself.
Later in the evening, dinner was served. Kingston wasn't present and so Aurora ate alone. She thought he might have had a lot of work that kept him in the office. Afterward, she decided to have a chit-chat with the gardener while she awaited his arrival.
“Ma’am Georgia ",she called as she entered the garden.
“Right here, my child," she said from a corner where she was trimming flowers.
“It's already late and besides, you ought to be tired now. You need some rest”, Aurora softly remarked as she helped her stand.
“Let me help you with that," she murmured, gently taking the scissors from the old lady's hand.
They were walking to the old lady's room when she blurted out unexpectedly,
“They said that you went to the forbidden area today" .And Aurora came to an unexpected stop.
“Who said?” she asked with shock.
“I told you to be watchful," the old lady reminded her,” There are eyes everywhere in this house.I would be going in now, have a safe night," She spoke calmly as she rubbed Aurora's hand and left for her room. Aurora stood there dazed. How could something she did without anyone seeing to her best of knowledge, and few people knew, as far as she was aware, now be a subject of discussion? Suddenly, there was an abrupt tap on her hand, she turned to look and it was Jade.
“Mr Kingston demands to see you in your room," She dropped the message and left almost immediately. It seemed like she sensed that Aurora wanted to ask her questions.
With hesitant steps and a heart filled with thoughts, she approached her room, ready to face her ever-stoic husband. Pushing the door open, there he was, standing before the mirror with a glass of wine.
“I'm here," she said with a shaky voice.
He turned and what faced Aurora scared her. His eyes were red, and his movements weren't steady. He walked towards her and dragged her to the bed, forcefully removing her clothes.
“Kingston, stop, you're drunk,” Aurora said in fear, and she tried losing his grip, but he was too strong for her. Minutes later, there were blood stains all over the bed, Aurora in tears and Kingston breathing heavily from a s*x marathon. He stood up after getting himself and left. Aurora was torn between the fact of s*x and emotions and the terrible experience on her first time. She couldn't bear it as she cried out loudly. After hours of crying herself out, she pulled herself together and washed up. That night was a terrible one as Kingston didn't come back to apologize, neither did he spend the night in the house too.
The next morning, Aurora locked the door, preventing her maids from entering. She wanted to grieve alone in silence. No one knew what had happened, as the walls were soundproof, but they knew that something was off. She didn't come down for breakfast or lunch and locked herself up all day. Finally, Kingston came back late that night. He heard from the maids, Aurora's sudden change of character but didn't feel guilty. He had his meals and went to meet her. When she heard that it was him knocking, she had to open up. He locked it behind him and went to where she sat, put a finger in her chin and lifted her face to fix her eyes on him.
“You had what you wanted, an honor of our night or didn't you enjoy it?"he said with sarcasm as he gave her a menacing smile.
“I will leave you to rest now," he said as he threw a book before her.
“Read it, it's not a love story," he uttered loudly as he left.
But before he stood, Aurora perceived a familiar scent, the one she perceived in the forbidden room the other day. This kept her thoughts hanging once more:” Could he be the one in the room that day?”
