Venus High School, everyone in town, came here to finish their k-12 education. Loads of history is displayed here, the first basketball championship, the debate team first win from Erida High School the rivals. Ask any parent, and they will spill how much they loved Venus High School, home of the Vipers. None will ever drop too much, in hope keeping the town secrets locked up. The school's colors were purple and black, every alumni and every student wore those colors proudly; they even put up the school's flags outside their houses.
The first day of school was always a full one event; parents would go breakfast after dropping the young ones off for the day, the kids dreaded being back but was quite happy to see the friends they never hung out with over the summer.
Kayla Robinson pulled into her assigned parking spot as Lucy Esser checked her lipstick in the mirror. The parking spot was far in the back from the school doors — perfect walking and making out. The making out part is only for Lucy.
"What is my schedule this year?" Lucy asked as they got out of the car. Kayla reached for her phone. "Don't make me wait!" They made their way towards the school entrance. Upfront was where a ton of parents was embarrassing the freshmen, girls hugging their friends, guys claiming its too 'girly' to full-on hug, so they do a bro hug. The teachers and upperclassmen are helping out newcomers, clubs; it was a whole zoo to get through.
"Sorry," Kayla apologized as she opened the notes app on her phone. She scrolled through until she found one labeled as Lucy's Junior schedule. " Physics first hour with Mr. Aman."
" Ick!" Lucy sounded in disgust.
"Trigonometry with MS. McKrae," Kayla said.
"ICK!" Lucy sounded louder.
"English with Mr. Huff," Kayla read off.
"Bearable," Lucy huffed as they got closer to the entrance of the school.
"French with Ms. Latimer and radio with Mr. Peters," Kayla listed the last two.
"At least the second half is bearable," Lucy groaned. "Do I have all my classes with Moe?" Moe goes by Moe Daniels, is also known as Lucy's boyfriend. He was a Japanese-American kid; he had gorgeous black hair and blue eyes that you could swim in. Moe was co-captain of the basketball team, the receiver on the varsity football team. A brilliant and goofy guy all around, it was not hard to dislike the guy, but it was also easy to hate him. Not only did he have what every popular kid wanted, but he also was the mayor's son.
"No," Kayla answered in uneasement.
"No," Lucy growled as her face started to turn red. "What in flaming torches of your soul do you mean, no?"
" You have every single class with him besides 4th hour," Kayla answered quickly, sweat started to form on her forehead.
"Life is so unfair," Lucy cried as she stomped her heel on the ground. " I should have every class with my Gucci bear." She shook her head, her orange hair smacked Kayla a little, before returning to the bouncing of Lucy's steps. " Anyways, since we are now juniors, I am promoting you more work this year, Ms. Robinson."
"Lucy, the SATs are this year, " Kayla brought up. " I want to focus on it."
"Why would a nobody like you want to focus on the SATs?" a voice asked, it was another Lucy like voice. They glanced back to see two girls dressed almost the exact same. One girl had darker skin, beautiful as coffee, she had box braids, wore a flash purple top, and a black skirt that barely reached her knees, she wore purple flips as well. That was Dawn Smith, she was the captain of the dance team and on the cheer team. Her mom owned the bank while her father was a talent agent. She's a best friend to Lucy, and to Lucy...Dawn was just another pawn like Kayla. The other girl was Filippino, she had low pigtails, a blue flash shirt, a black skirt, and blue flip flops. She wore earbuds in her ears, always playing music, but could always talk to others at the same time. Her name was Delexi Zeka, she was the most talented singer in the school, she stared in almost every musical this school has to produce since they have arrived at high school.
"You are the stupidest person here," Delexi said as her head bopped along to the song playing.
"Along with the smartest," Lucy added. " So, you will be doing mine, Dawn, Delexi, and Moe's papers along with yours. We need more time to have fun...also we will be having a back to school party at your house this Friday. DO not even try to disappoint me."
"Yes, Lucy," Kayla nodded her head. All four girls walked into the school building. Down the hall, to the right, and down that hall stood Gullimero at his locker his only two friends. By only two, he really meant only two, making friends with the kind of people in Nox Town was almost a suicide mission. His two friends are Aoiffe Reece and Javonte Cargile, two complete nerds like him. Aoiffe moved her in the fourth grade from Ireland, he has not quite lost his accent yet. It did not help that Aoiffe went back to Ireland during each summer break. Aoiffe had strawberry blonde hair, one green eye, and one brown eye. Javonte had cappuccino skin, freckles, and hazel eyes. His mom owned a pet hotel, along with living there, so he lived there as well.
"So when can we come over your house?" Aoiffe asked.
"Maybe if you stop taking off to whiskey land, you can go over," Javonte stated.
" There is much more to Ireland than whiskey!" Aoiffe exclaimed as his eyes lit up. " There's football and I don't mean your foolish little American football, I mean actual football."
"American football is real football, what you're playing is soccer," Javonte argued. When Gully told his family he had debate team friends, these were the only two. It wasn't hard to tell they were on the debate team, Javonte and Aoiffe debated about everything and anything. They even debated the right way to take the first bite into a twinkie.
"Maybe if we humiliate Lucy Esser in front of the whole town, we can come over," Aoiffe suggested as he tried to change the subject.
"That's not a bad idea," Gully admitted as he put a book in his locker.
"Great, that'll be easy as pie," Aoiffe smiled in relief.
"I wouldn't say it'd be easy," Javonte disagreed.
"Maybe if you actually used those brain cells of yours," Aoiffe huffed.
"Then what do you have in mind genius?" Javonte glared at him.
"Demon Queen of the high school has her minions, also known as; her touchable all-star athlete boyfriend Moe Daniels. The Double D's, Dawn Smith and Delexi Zeka. And lastly her demon secretary Kayla Robinson."
"So, this makes it easy?" Javonte asked he crossed his arms and Gully closed his locker.
"All he needs to do is target one of them and he's in the clear for the demon queen," Aoiffe explained as they made their way towards their first class.
"Targeting one, won't take down her force field," Gully disagreed.
"I disagree with your disagreeing," Aoiffe said. "The only one we really need to target is Kayla."
"I'd rather embarrass her in front of the whole town along with Lucy," Gully huffed. " She did the breaking up for Lucy, she was the one that told me that I was not cool enough for Lucy, I wasn't at Lucy's standards. She did the dirty of work breaking my heart, not Lucy."
"That's just cold-blooded," Javonte scrunched his nose. "If I am going to break with someone, I want them to say it to my face and vice versa."
"No, we are not touching Kayla in terms of embarrassment," Aoiffe disagreed.
"Don't tell me you still have a silly school girl's crush on her," Gully glared at her.
"Well, no," Aoiffee answered.
"Then why hold back?" Javonte asked.
"Kayla would have not done Lucy's dirty work if she did not have too, she's as much as in Lucy's Wonderland as the rest of us," Aoiffe answered.
"What makes you think that?" Gully asked he raised an eyebrow.
" I had a crush on Kayla after being friends with her so long," Aoiffe pointed out. " Well, used to be friends, until Lucy came in."
"That doesn't explain why we can't target her," Javonte said as they took their seats in the classroom. They sat right by the window, and in the back. Aoiffe sat in the corner, Gully sat across from him, and Javonte sat in front of Aoiffe.
"Kayla was the first person to friend me after I moved here, she's a nice person," Aoiffe explained. " She just gets pushed around by Lucy like the rest of us."
"People change," Gully pointed. " I have no doubt that Kayla actually enjoys doing the dirty work." They looked forward to seeing Kayla walk into the classroom, she took at the first desk, right next to the window. " Speaking of the Devil's Secretary, there she is."
The bell rang, everyone took their seats as the teacher, Mr. Huff walked into the room. He stopped in the middle of the room, at his podium, set down his book and looked among the crowd of students.
"Welcome to a brand-new school year Vipers," Mr. Huff greeted in a monotone voice. " This year is all about prepping you for the tests that will decide your future. You will be tested to your absolute limits, aim for a high score. A higher score means chances are better for college. A change to further your education altogether." Aoiffe raised his hand nice and high. " Mr. Reece?"
"Do we have a fair chance of getting into colleges?" Aoiffe asked.
" I understand your concern. After recent events of rich people buying their kid's way into colleges. You have the right to ask whether or not you have a fair chance. Truth to be told, I can not give you a truthful answer, I will not be giving any of my student's false hope."
" The rich will probably people to stay quiet about the situation even more," Gully huffed
"Mr. Pirrone, this is the government we are talking about," Mr. Huff reminded him.
" What Gully is saying...is that the government is not all that trustworthy. They have secret cabinets, there is a high chance that they could be bribed to be quiet," Kayla spoke up.
"That's just the way the government is," Mr. Huff said. "Money speaks louder, than justice." Gully looked forward to Kayla.
"That's also the way of the rich," a spoke up. He had bright blue eyes and shiny blonde hair. He is Paul Arthur, people labeled him as the kid priest, he never stopped trying to bring religion to every topic. He had a habit of looking down on other religions, his father was a pastor and his mother was the youth pastor. " All these rich people waste their money buying expensive items, paying people to be quiet, rather than doing something useful and helpful...such as donating to charities, or help end world hunger."
"If you were in charge of your own nation, how you rule the government?"
"I would start with the lower cabinets before rising up," Paul answered.
"I'd make sure the rulers all know their history," Gully answered, everyone, nodded in agreement.
"How about you, Ms. Robinson?" Mr. Huff asked. "What do you have to say to this matter?" Everyone looked to see her staring out the window, Gully could not tell if she was spaced out or thinking.
"What would the demon secretary do?" Javonte asked as he exchanged a fist bump with Aoiffe. Kayla looked back at the boy. " Would you continue to rule how Lucy Esser rules?" Kayla glanced around the classroom before looking back at Javonte.
" If I were given a chance to rule a nation of my own, I would not rule it alone," Kayla answered. "That is just too much wait on one's shoulders."
"Wouldn't that disrupt the flow of everything?" God can rule the earth alone, so a human should be able to rule a nation alone," Paul said.
" Well, with the agreement of the co-ruler, I would keep religion and government separate," Kayla explained, Gully nodded in agreement. "But things can be done groups of two, there is a thing known as co-captains."
"That's not the same thing," Paul argued.
"Would either be willing to kill for these nations?" Mr. Huff asked.
"No," Kayla answered.
"I'd rather avoid a blood bath," Gully answered.
"Metaphorically I would," Paul answered. Everyone looked at him, people either scooted closer or further from him. " If I could kill a role like Lucy, things would definitely be chaotic, we would be sheep without shepherds."
' You know everything isn't catholic, right?" Aoiffe asked.
"Aren't you Irish?" Paul asked looking at him.
"Don't stereotype me," Aoiffee glared. " Not every person in the land of green is catholic or even Christian."
"You all really should be," Paul urged. " It's the only righteous religion out there."
"As an Athiest, I beg to differ," Kayla disagreed as she tapped her pencil on her notebook.
"Have fun in the underworld, devil worshiper," Paul grunted as he pulled out a Cross.
" I don't think you know the meaning of an atheist," Gully pointed out. Mr. Huff clapped his hands, everyone glanced at him.
" As much as I would like to continue this discussion, we only have thirty minutes on the first day," Mr. Huff said. " But at the start of next week, we will head down to the Dove office and there we will pick up the novel Animal Farm, so don't forget your ID. Be prepared to work hard in this class."
